not only from my experience but from friends who have been in long term relationships that have ended the girl will always seem to ask this in her own way during future random interactions

"so what are you planning to do with your life, career wise?"
"what would you do if you lost your sub-par job?"
"what do you want to do to better yourself?"
"why havent you found a better job yet?
etc

are they money hungry or what, why do they care so much

You could say... I'm gonna be a wealthy man living a good life and have a family. Then, you could say to your ex: Too bad it didn't work out with us. Oh well, i'll just have to find a new woman to live that life with me. And you don't talk to your ex ever again!!! :crackup: maybe thats a lil too mean...
