I have to disagree with the "texting is pointless" sentiments here.
Like others have said (and like it or not), texting IS the most direct and efficient way to get ahold of the females in your life right now. I also prefer it for several reasons:
1) One of my clear strengths is writing. I love creative writing and when I can write things to girls, I can always be funny. Of course I try to avoid writing long texts, but I find that I can be very creative and witty and snap back hilarious one-liners that girls always laugh at. This also goes for Facebook Chat and that type of thing - girls have told me in person that I literally had them in hysterics from some of the things I can convey through words.
2) While writing is a strength for me, conversational phone-game is definitely something I am poor at. Awkward pauses really get me stressed, so I end up nervously talking about nothing in particular. Also my phone service tends to come and go, and I often have to ask girls to repeat themselves while on the phone, which is annoying for both people.
3) Sometimes it's difficult to arrange a time to call people, and the formality of having to set up a time so you don't play endless phone tag is annoying. Logistically, it's much easier to text, because I can honestly do that almost any time of the day, even if I'm just sitting in class bored out of my mind.
With this being said though, I try not to imitate your typical 15-year-old girl and send 100 messages a day. I probably send in the neighborhood of 5-15 on average to a girl. Not enough to go overboard, but enough to keep them on their toes and giving them something to laugh at when you can play off their own words. Also, I try to make the habit of always ending it with the "ball in my court" so that I can resume texting later at my own leisure instead of waiting for her to re-initiate contact because I sent the last message that she failed to reply to immediately.
