Who here uses head hunters to find the job nowadays seems obsolete.

Not headhunters per se, but IT recruitment is still huge. Get 3-4 messages/emails/texts a week at least if not more with positions available to see if I am interested in talking to them.

Basically in IT you should get in good with as many local recruiters as possible as they have lots of jobs and the more they know and like you, the more opportunities come your way.

That’s me spamming those inmails and asking about your weekend on the phone.

Headhunters and recruiters are nearly useless unless you have a special in-demand skill. If you're a typical accountant or operations guy, then they will talk to you then ghost you frequently. Don't take them seriously unless they prove themselves to you, which they probably won't.

It doesn't hurt if they want to help, but you have to rely on yourself to find a job, not them.

In the STEM fields headhunters are still routinely used. Some employers will not hire senior level people without being vetted first through a headhunter.
