It's unthinkable that white people should whine about our treatment compared to minorities in this country. Not being able to have an explicitly named "whites only" network pales in comparison to, say, genocide of the Indians.

White is not a culture. Asian, German, Asian-American, etc are cultures.


There ARE white clubs. They are called "European Club", "German club", "American club".

That's exactly right. What's interesting regarding the "Asian" race is that it's a completely Western construct. There is no monolithic Asian race in Asia, where nationalities such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean aren't lumped together and actually aren't even very fond of each other. It's only when they move into a minority role that self-identifying with a larger group than just their nationalities becomes important.

1. It's mostly whites b/c the US is predominately white! How can things be 50/50 when the white race is the most prevalant? It seems like the black race wants every thing to be black.

2. I'm not big on stereotyping races, but i find it funny how a lot of minorities hate the "white man" but trip over themselves trying to date and bang a white female.

3. Using slavery as a crutch for ones failures is beyond ridiculous. In today's society (affirmative action, free schooling, quotas, etc.) there is no reason for failure. If you fail, you should blame yourself, not the white man!

What are you talking about? White is definitely as much of a culture as any of the others you listed. White America is composed of people of European ancestry... doesn't matter where they were from, they all combine into one group. Sounds exactly like another culture, Asian America. White culture is the dominant culture in America.

The reason there is no WET because other than BET everything else is WET. Even the women's stations have mostly white shows.

Think about t.v shows mon-fri. All those lame ass sitcoms, or reality shows. 96% WHITE.

Bravo is gay t.v mostly. But I am still waiting for the lesbo show or channel.

Why? Because WHITES are the ones that are being discrimated against today, that's why. The really sad part is, whites are standing by and letting all this happen to them.

You can have a "Black Entertainment Television", but you CANNOT have a "White Entertainment Television."

It is alright for a black woman to openly say that she wants to date a black man, a person of her own race. If a white woman specifies that she wants a white man, then she is called a racist.

You can have a scholarship for black students, but you CANNOT have one for a white student. It is the racist assuption by blacks that ALL whites are rich and shouldn't need a scholarship.

The white race and every other race in the school districts are forced to study "Black History Month." I have no probelm with blacks honoring their heritage, but when "they" say that honoring OUR heritage is racist, I have a problem.

I never hear the Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Greeks, or Mexicans in this country complain about discrimination. Only blacks are the ones scream and whine about "discrimination" and blame "the white man" when things don't go their way.

If you combine all of the minorities in the United States of America... there are still enough Caucasian to double that amount. So let's be honest my friend, Caucasians have dominated the world (by sheer population alone) for hundreds of years now... I wish people could feel sorry for you, but they don't. Okay just for starters, this is why something like WET would'nt work.

Classify what is White.

If you say it is everything which is not Black, well that is wrong because there is a lot of people who are not Black but yet would not consider themselves White (Latins, Asians, etc).

Okay, then it is everybody who is a Anglo Saxon Protestant whose decendents come from Western Europe. Well that is wrong too, because there are a lot of people who are not either Protestants (Catholics, worlds third largest religion) or Anglo Saxons (Irish, Italians, Spanish, etc)

Okay, then White must be all those natural born americans who were not decendent of slaves or it the indegenous poplulation. This is wrong too because that could be pratically anyone.

White, Black, Latin, Asians, and all the other ones that can be posiblely be thought up, refer to culture, not race. Culture is about certain specific values, history, and biology that a group of people share in common. Something like BET picks certain specific elements of that culture and creates a picture of it. Obviously, since it is only specific elements, it can not be a complete picture.

A great example is Martin Lawrence. We all know his show and his schitick. He is what most people would call "Black" for better or worse. Despite this, I hardly think him to be typical of someone who considers themselves Black. He simply uses certain specific sterotypes common to those who consider themselves to be Black for comedic effect. Also, these stereotypes are only good for here in America, not in say Africa, where probably most of his jokes would be met with confusion.

To think in terms like Black, White, Latin, Asian, etc, in many ways is useless. Yes all people have a specific culture they come from and which they adopt, but it is hardly though indicative of who they are as individuals. Racism is an ugly word tossed around too much. Simplely enjoy the diferences between cultures, and bond with individuals though your similarities. Don't get drawn into others negativity and ignorance.

I agree with everything you said except for this. I'm white and even I know Italians = white in America. There's alot of racist Italians running around angry at blacks for god knows what reason. I don't think there's alot of Greeks in America, I don't know. I've heard Mexicans complain but really. Mexicans were never slaves in America, Mexicans are just as poor as blacks, and there's no way in hell Mexicans are as vocal as blacks. The Chinese and Japanese that come over to America are already rich. What RICH white person you know complains about being discrimiated against? Why'd you leave off women and gays?

Edit : So BET is only "black" culture. There's nothing wrong with that. But what about "Irish" culture? You'd think that would be allowed?

I love how white people get all bent out of shape over BET. Have you watched BET lately? The channel flat out sucks. Besides white television is every other channel on tv, where 95% of the people being shown are white, except for the 6:00 clock news, where the newscaster loves to give the description of "black male in their 20's did this or that".
