White Entertainment Television?

Why is it acceptable for channels dedicated to blacks, hispanics, women, and now from what I currently hear gays but not for whites? Are these channels only allowed for minorities? Do you believe this separtism or just trying to make things "equal"? Do you think if these channels ceased to exist, we'll all of these minorities be misrepresented? I just wanted to know how some of you feel.

From the posts on the Williams sisters, I'm surprised you are posting this.

It is kind of 'understood' that the mainstream/the majority in Western world is white, so channels, entertainment, tv shows whatever is based on the majority, which is white and especially middle class, could add straight and go on and on. The new channels and movements if you wish are so that other groups that are not part of what is considered mainstream are not left out. I mean in the US pre-60s and 70s(well before my time) I'm sure all the channels could have been considered White Entertainment Television.

I agree and that there is a reason that these channels exist....and for good reason. But if whites held their own televison programming(intentionally) it would be considered racist. Take for example the BET Awards. Will Smith said that it was a show that awards blacks for their accomplishments.(They didn't discrimate whites from participating in the show. Tom Cruise was there) But there's no way possible there could be award shows for whites praising whites for their achievements. Not only that, there's no award show that has a majority of awards given to whites. All of those shows have to be diverse and equal. It's just weird how it all came to be this way.

If a certain ethnic group wants to have their own awards than so be it. But if you're not from that ethnic group and you oppose them having their own award, you're an idiot.

Reminds me of that case where a little girl wanted to have white club in her school. Then you had all the blacks and even teachers b1tching about it even though that same school had several minority only groups!

^^I agree but do you think that promotes separatism? If so, how come only whites can't be separate? Everyone else can but whites can't. Is it because whites are the majority? Growing up I never got that. I could honestly see someone making a fair case that whites already have our certain "WET's" I understand that. But it's cases like the white girl not being to start her own "white club" that almost proves that society thinks whites = oppressors, everyone else = victims.

It is more a feeling/consensus of white=already deeply established and not as oppressor or whatever focking else people like to say, it's so every other so called minority group in the western world can 'catch-up' with the mainstream.

BET is black entertainment television but it is NOT no whites allowed television...the "majority" of people seen on BET are black but that's not the "only" persons seen on BET...

However...

The idea of WET has a Ku Klux Neo Nazi vibe and it's owner could be someone that idolizes Hitler... now that's just backward television...

I don't get why we can't have a good men's channel (Spike TV doesn't count. All they show is Star Trek and MXC). There's 3 women's channels on basic cable, yet there's only one men's channel and it sucks. I've heard some argue that it's because most TV is aimed towards men, but that is far from true. I'd go so far as to say that most TV shows are aimed either towards women or just a general audience.

Oh yes whites are getting richer off of ethnic specific businesses...the owner of BET is white... but he's making a whole heap of black artists, producers etc rich as well...

It would be one hell of a world if the number of rich blacks eventualy out number the amount of rich whites...

Why can't you figure this out? All major entertainment is white entertainment.They only time we see a minority is when they are representing a stereotype: thug black guy, nice neighbor black guy, educated black guy, nice asian couple.

I cant believe that there are ppl offended by bet and univision.

The commercials and advertising on those stations influence what the audience purchases

Glad that you brought this up. It's funny or okay if a black person says the n word but if another race says it then it is like kicking an ant hill.

about other races *not being able* to use the n word, when granted most Blacks I know have been called the n word by Whites and should we say other races, but Blacks being able to use it.

This is my understanding of it, when Blacks use it, it ends with -a and is considered a fraternal thing kind of like the use of brotha, when other races use it, they are refering to something completely different and is used derogatory and it ends with -er.
If you see rap lyrics or hear Blacks who use it you'll hear the difference and when you here a White racist or other race say it.

That being said I really don't think it helps us calling each other by any name that would be considered disrespectful.

Think about this. In school if black people make a club, and blacks only, it's not racist. But if white people made a white only club, it is considered racist. That's just society...

White is not a culture. Asian, German, Asian-American, etc are cultures.


There ARE white clubs. They are called "European Club", "German club", "American club".

Hell, white isn't even a real race. It's just the colour of your skin. Some Chinese people have paler skin than most Europeans.


(PS. Technically, nobody is "white". Pink, perhaps, but definitely not white.)
