The answer to your question depends on the girl in question. That said, the 'Get big and cut all over' answer is good advice as your covering all the bases so to speak. This is an excerpt taken from The Definitive Book of Body Language by Alan and Barbara Pease that should give you some good info:

Is she a chest, legs or bum gal?

Women's sexual responses to men are triggered visually by certain aspects of the male body. When it comes to a women's favourite male body parts, women are universally split into 3 groups - legs, bums and chest/arms with bums taking %40 of the votes for first prize. Overall, women also look for athetic body shape, broad shoulders, muscular chest and arms and a tight butt. Even in the 21st century, surveys overwhelmingly show women still want a man who looks as if he can wrestle animals and fight off invaders.

Male bodies are purpose built to chase, catch and wrestle animals, carry heavy things and kill spiders

Women are attracted to a well-defined male upper body but most dislike the 'muscle man' body-builder look; a woman feels he is likely to be more interested in his own beauty than in hers.

1. Broad Shoulders, Chest and Muscular Arms

The upper torso of the hunting male is wide and tapers to narrow hips, whereas a woman's body is narrower at the shoulders and widens at the hips. Men evolved these features to allow them to lug heavy weapons over long distances and carry home their kills.

The male chest developed to house large lungs enabling more effective distribution of oxygen and allowing him to breathe more efficiently when running and chasing. In past generations, the bigger his chest, the more respect and power a man commanded, and this is still the case with most surviving primitive tribes.

2.The Small Tight Bum

A small, compact bum is the favourite of women everywhere but few understand it's magnetic attraction. The secret is that a tight, muscular rear is necessary to make the strong forward thrusting motion needed for successful sperm transfer during sex. A man with a fat ot flabby derriere has difficulty with this forward movement and has a tendency to throw his entire body weight into the thrust. For women, this isn't ideal, as the man's weight can be uncomfortable on her and make it difficult to breathe. By contrast, the small, tight rear promises a greater chance of doing an effective job.

3.Narrow Hips and Muscular Legs

Men's legs are attractive to women only insofar as they are symbols of masculine power and endurance. The powerful, angular legs of the human male are the longest of all primates and his narrow hips allow him to run swiftly over long distances to chase and hunt. Women's wide hips cause many women to have difficulty running, as their lower legs and feet often flay out to the side to balance body weight. Leading US neuropschology professor Devendra Smith discovered that women find male hips with a %90 waist-to-hips ratio the most appealing.

How would you know this?

Unless you have see through shorts or pants...it's obvious.

Or unless you wear tight pants.

However, arms are visible in short sleeves.
Shoulders/Arms visible in Tanktops
Large traps are visible to an extent in most fitting shirts because they stick up
Large pecs are visible in form fitting shirts because they stick out.

I wear baggies (out of necessity) and you can STILL see the shape of my legs. :D (and arse )

And when your lower body gets that big, you can sure as hell expect to have some decent 'beach muscles' as well.. conversely, you can have a decent upper body and chicken legs. I know which I'd rather have.

I would definitely agree with a powerful chest being a sign of health and vitality.

just develop yourselves all over. a balanced, symmetrical physique is more impressive to ANYONE rather than say good pecs and average everywhere else. (not that you'd be able to do that but you get my point)

Well maybe you're just fat ;)

My legs are skinny. You can't see the shape of them to save the life of you. 21-22 inch thighs..ish. It makes me sad.

I want like 24"ers. At least.

ANd my 14 inch calves. Psh. 16 sounds average to me.

It makes me hungry thinking about how skinny i am...

Bah. His reasons are no less valid than any of the other reasons people want to lift.

yes, but training under any sort of pressure "because I need to be buff to get girls" or under any sort of "must do this" mentality means that training will become a chore, you will have anxiety and push for new weights far too often, losing reps instead of consollidating strength and hence chances of injury increase.

You'll become frustrated if you don't progress linearly (which you won't) which may lead to burnout if you try to make up the lack of strength increase with volume and may or may not lead to an inferiority complex just 'cause your squat has been stuck at 350 for two whole weeks (and you ignore that it's come up from 200 in the past six months)..

You should train because you love training and enjoy it, not because you feel you must. Adopting this mentality and forgetting the outside world and the apparent obligation to be huge and ripped to have girlfriends (which is purely a media/social 'requirement' - if women were only attracted to impossibly perfect male specimens then the human race would've died out long ago).. once you've adopted this easier mentality, you will gain better than ever.

when i trained a while ago, it was for the ladies. my training thus was very mechanical, no drive, no motivation (some, but it's diff from lifting for yourself)

then i started wanting to lift for myself. my arms are huge for my size (unbalanced) because i used to only do curls. but now i use 3 ocmpound split and each time, i want to rack on more and more weight. its just a complete different feeling to lifting and that makes you happier and grow more

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I consider ladies' positive attention & feedback to be a fringe benefit of something I enjoy. I think most things in life work better when you enjoy them for their own sake. But that shouldn't stop one from basking in the glow from others.

We often get into things for the wrong reasons--lifting is no different. Many of us started lifting for some external motivation, but those who enjoy it most enjoy the best results.

My lady started lifting with me mainly to spend more time with me, and was motivated to a lesser extent by a vague notion that it might be "good for her"... now she loves it and is probably more dedicated than me. And she's realized that many myths of lifting are just that--most importantly, a gal CAN lift hard and heavy w/o developing a mannish physique (just keep away from those anabolic steroids, chiquitas!)

I'm always questioning women about this. My girlfriend loves my chest, legs, shoulders and forearms. She gets REALLY turned on by them!

Most my female friends think that shredded bodybuilder physiques are repulsive, and others say the underwear model physique is attractive but too intimidating.

Personally, my chest gets most attention. It's actually VERY rare to see a guy with a developed chest in my area, so I tend to stand out.

Re:

In this order...

1) Mind muscle. Character Personality, etc. That's the only thing that endures. There's lots of dumb jocks and dopes who won't get 2 looks from a decent woman.

2) Love muscle. Using it, with your mind muscle is like using the Force and the Darkside combined.

3) Your total body. If you don't buy this order, then ask women, because guys don't know. Each woman likes something different. But in reality, if a guy was fat, but had thick arms, he might find/attract a girl who likes husky, built men. On the other hand, some women like skinng girls. So in essence, THERE'S A WOMAN FOR EVERYBODY TYPE...BUILD THE BODY YOU WANT AND YOU"LL ATTRACT THE GIRLS WHO WANT/DESIRE YOU.

If you scan myspace, you'll find girls who like skinny metros or skaters, and you'll find girls who like built boys like Linebackers, or short 1's, or basketball players, or just regular guys who don't make her feel emaciated and super fat. Generally women want to be smaller than the man. The better in shape you are, the more you motivate her to be in shape or risk getting to much competition from women. If a man wants to keep his woman working out, he needn't force her. Just have the man committ, for his lifetime, to being healthy. Eat what you want and what makes your body feel good. She'll either adapt or not. But why would you want a woman who wants to be unhealthy and keep you down from what you want? Shouldn't she support that? And doing physical activity together increases sexual tension and chemistry. That much I learned at 17. I'd do things with my GF then, and then we'd do things together!

This is a pretty big assumption. And i don't see where anyone said "have to," "must," or "need to be." But getting a nice buff body sure as hell helps no matter how shiny your personality is so it's a perfectly valid reason to go if it's your only reason. Why would it become a chore and cause anxiety? You'd think it'd be like "woohoo! girls are noticing me and complimenting me more i want to keep going to get even better or not lose what i have!"

I don't even think about why I go now. I just go. It's habit. Why do I still go to my work's gym on Fridays I have off even though it's 20 minutes away? Because Friday is a lift day. I don't think about it. It's what I do now.

I'm not saying it's the best reason or my reason, but if a guy's sole reason for going to the gym is wanting girls to want to make his penis wet, I'm not going to say there's a single thing wrong with it or tell him not to. If he's all anxious and puts too much pressure on himself he'd probably be that way even if had a different reason. It's like we're discouraging people from lifting if they're doing it to get girls. I'd rather they go for whatever reason they want than for them not to go at all because they don't have a "valid" reason.

I'd hardly say getting more sex is a cause for anxiety :)

This can be considered a personality flaw.

Why do you need a REASON to lift hard if you're going to lift? Why are you even in the gym if you're going to half ass it? I go into the gym and my thought process is "well i came here i might as well not squander my time." I'm not thinking "OH BOY I CAN'T WAIT TO GET SEXY AND BIG AND HUGE AND STRONG AND HAVE WOMEN THROW THEMSELVES AT ME! ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR I'M GONNA LIFT ME SOME WEIGHTS!!!!!!" Shrug, i also dont have to turn on Pantera or whatever just to emotionally pumped to move some weights around. I'm here, there's weights, let's make them move, why else am i here?

I go to work and no one could really give a damn if my work is good/great as long as i meet the bare minimum requirements for my project. But if i have to be here 9 hours a day I might as well work hard and do things really well because I'm here 9 hours regardless... either that or i can make more meanie pants sosuave posts. I don't need a pep rally to work myself up to function.

And why isn't GETTING MORE SEX FROM BEAUTIFUL WOMEN not some source of drive and motivation for you?

Saying "if you lift for women you're lifting for the wrong reasons" is a load of sh!t. If you don't want to admit it because you feel it makes you seem shallow or less manly, whatever. But in surveys time and time again it has been proven that the PRIMARY REASON why people work out is to look better for the opposite sex.

Granted, it's not what I think about while I'm lifting. When I get under the bar for a back breaking squat set all I think about it is my inner willpower to do something greater than I've done before, not "this is for the ladies". Of course when I go pose in a mirror at home, I think "damn, I'm gonna score big with these". :D

I (like a lot of other people) may start lifting for the intention of looking better naked [and clothed], but the benefits you get are much broader - health, strength, confidence, discipline ... basically becoming a man. All of which, when combined with your new physique, is what attracts the ladies.

And I don't remember who said it because a lot of people have (myself included in the past), but if you got the looks, you can have a pretty sh!tty personality and still pull tons of pvssy and get away with a lot. I know I can be a total jackass to most girls I know and all they do is laugh and keep coming back for more. It's not excuse to act that way, but it is an example.

edit - oops forgot what this thread was about. Every woman is attracted to something different. Why not get them all and just build a good body all over. Same thing with girls. She might have huge tits, but her ass if flat or she's fat (unless you're into that) suddenly they're not so attractive. If her ass is nice but she has no chest, it's not that great either. Don't be the dude with a tv chest and chicken legs - we have enough of those already.

It takes years of work and some roids for chicks to get huge. Either that or manly genetics. Generally speaking, women become toned "fitness model" looking girls when they lift.

I started lifting for the ladies. Then it became and athletic thing. Now, it's because I feel weak and skinny and for track. Of course, everytime I pass a mirror, I find things that don't look good...

It's best to have MANY reasons why you're lifting. Just incase...

I agree with Skilla. Having many reasons for lifting and the #1 reason being GOOD HEALTH is important.

And to answer the original queston, women love triceps a lot more then biceps, and they love pecs and the butt! And if you let them peek at your rock hard abs (they dont even need to be visilbe as long as they can feel them), its all gravy!
