over the past few months i have developed a lactose intolerance. i know that whey protein has lactose in it, are there any alternatives to whey protein? how do you other guys that are lactose intolerant deal with whey protein? i can tolerate low levels of lactose, but most of the time it tears up my stomach and ruins my day/night.

o yea, little intro, my name is steve, 19, im a bit new to some of this stuff. im just trying to put some muscle on and burn fat. im following the idiots guide to growth post.

i have a pretty decent natural build, and i know i have the genes to put on muscle cause i have done it before, but went dormant for awhile due to my personal schedule. right now, im 6' at about 163, so im still pretty light. im somewhat cut (you can see a six pack is there, but theres a very small layer of fat over it). i dont really have a specific weight that i am trying to hit, im just trying to get thicker and cut. im not looking to lift houses above my head or anything, but im looking to get bigger than the norm while still achieving a six-eight pack.

stick to whey isolate, which has very little lactose, though it's pricier.

the idiot's guide has nearly everything you need. post specific questions here and we'll try to help.

1) buy ON whey - it's mostly isolate with some concentrate and it's not very expensive at all

2) most whey brands have lactase which is a digestive enzyme so you shouldn't have any problems with whey (other than getting the sh!ts but protein does that to ya)

if all else fails you can try egg protein, just stay away from soy

 ON is good stuff. Mixes well with everything, tastes good, inexpensive and you don't get that bloated feeling after drinking it.

I've been mixing a little egg white powder in each scoop of whey. I figure this is more of a "whole food" than just whey.

..except after workout...

I'm extremely lactose intolerant, and I've had no problem with Twinlab's 100% Whey Protein Fuel, BMF Hardcore ISO2, Isopure (liquid and powder both good), or Biochem Biopure Whey Protein Isolate.
