I always try to do a late lunch or catch a bite to eat in the early evening with a girl... IMO, a trip to the beach is too much of a commitment for a 1st, you want something you can bail out of it you want or need to

The added advantage of lunch or early evening is that you can extend it too with drinks if you're both enjoying yourself...
