When do you give a girlfriend a 2nd chance?

Last week my girlfriend got extremely wasted one night, and ended up making an ass of herself, and being extremely rude and insulting toward me, when we were at home. I told her I was leaving and probably not coming back. She asked a mutual friend to get me to call her yesterday. I talked to her, and she wants to work things out. I'm thinking about saying I'll try under specific circumstances and that my tolerance for bull will probably be even lower with her now then with people I don't know. She hasn't done this before, but she has had normal female moodiness before. I figured a second chance might be appropriate, or at least telling her we could stay together but start seeing other people. I don’t want to be too harsh and I don’t want to allow this kind of behavior either. Do any of you have advice?

She didn't do it in public?

We've all been drunk (some of us) and done things that were stupid.

My advice is not to be so harsh - 1st offense.

How long have you been with your GF? I think she'll understand that she's walking on thin ice with you after you let her know that you won't let her act disrespectful towards you. She should realize that it's you two against the world while you're together.

Anyway, that's good that you're not a pushover - keep up the self respect.

thanks

Thanks for the responses.

No it wasn't in public, and we have been together a little less than a half year, but we have known eachother for a couple years.

I don't want to be too harsh, and I'm sure she wishes she hadn't said the things she said, but I wouldn't tolerate me acting that way toward her. Perhaps I can give her another chance, with conditions, but I don't want to find out that this is something I'll have to deal with again.

I would say never. The girl acted like a complete idiot. You didn't deserve it, and you certainly don't want it to happen again. Move on. There are plenty of girls out there who will treat you with the respect you deserve; you don't need a bad one bringing you down.

If she was extremely rude and insulting toward you... then i'd have no problem's nexting her. Why was she rude and insulting for ? Obviously she has some tensions / issues building up or she wouldn't have acted in that way.

If she makes you happy and is a good addition to your life then keep her around be make sure you PUT her in her place, tell her you wont put up with any sh1t from her and then YOU date other women :)

Don't stress too much on this one. Keep looking / closing more HB's.

Next.
Think about it simply bro, if anyone male or female insults in this manner in public and behaves in such a way do you really want to be associated with them?

There are better people out there and i can only see positives from moving on.

Is there a specific reason why she didn't call you? She got drunk, said stupid things, then got a friend to tell you to call her. Why couldn't she pick up the phone?

I think a second chance is in order, but if she didn't have a specific reason for not calling you then you've got problems ahead.

I was going to ask the same thing about her not calling you (she may be really embarrassed). That seems a little young though to get someone to get you to call her.

I say give her a second chance. But make it clear that that behavior is unacceptable. Intoxicated people do things they regret later. This is likely a case of that, however, if she has a drinking problem, you can expect this sort of thing in the future.
Stay away from people with drinking
problems.

about not calling

Regarding not calling since a couple of you asked; She was assuming that I wasn't going to call her again, and she didn't want to be the one to call me up, after I stated the immenent end of the relationship. So she asked a mutual friend to ask me to call her.

Without knowing the specifics of how she insulted you its hard to say. But I usually give people one chance only to screw up, as long as they are apologetic afterwards... After that there are no more chances.

ahh

If you want to know about the specifics of stuff she was saying. The specific insults were grandious. At first she accused me of doing a couple of things I obviously wasn't doing(ie she was saying I was insulting her, and going through her diary, not in the past but right then). Then she showed her anger at this by hanging up the phone I was on talking with a friend, while all this was starting. I told her that was the last time she was doing that, meaning hanging up a phone I was on. Then she started to sling insults like saying I was "evil" or "psychotic", the best one was "everything about you disgusts me except the physical you". Pretty much she was saying stuff way out of the bounds of acceptable, but they were so far out there it wasn't as bad as it could have been, like they always say the truth hurts worse. Then she would apolgize for a long time and say she was disfunctional, and that I deserved someone better. I guess the whole happy, sad, and angry drunk thing got covered that night.

Come on guys. Wherez the forgiveness in this?

Being a DJ dosen't mean crapping every gal that frowns ur way. Damn, I say give her a second chance, but she pull one more dumb move like that and dump her like a bytch.

Everyone makes mistakes. We're all human. Girls do. Guys do.

U'll just have to live wit it.
