I dont know why you guys are messing with him, I mean he is the typical AFC that wants to treat a women with respect and I give the man respect for that. I mean he doesnt look as hopeless as some claim him to be and he does seem to have hobbies and has a stable income so I dont see why people are messing with this guy. I know he's desperate for companionship but I dont think that's grounds for being mean to the man, If I meet this guy I would help him out if I could albeit he might not take my advice since I'm younger but I would try to help instead of hurt. But thats my take on the matter.

Marry the mayor

BY KRISTEN CATES, THE SOUTHERN

CARBONDALE - Brad Cole wants to make one thing clear - he's not desperate for a date. After making a half-joke of a New Year's resolution in the Jan. 1 edition of The Southern Illinoisan to "find someone, fall in love and then get engaged," Carbondale's bachelor mayor is finding a little help from the Web.

No, it doesn't come in the form of Match.com or EHarmony.com. Instead, dates are being solicited for Cole by local Carbondaley Dispatch blogger David More.

More has set up a Web site, www.marry themayor.com, encouraging interested parties to submit an essay in order to win a dream date with the 35-year-old politician.

"It started as a joke when I read the quote," More said. "It just kind of took on a life of its own."

Cole said he was surprised, yet amused, when More notified him of his intentions.

"Evidently there's a committee to get the Mayor married," Cole said. "He, nor the committee, will take over my love life."

He's willing to go along with the idea, but More has yet to solidify what exactly will be included in the date package. It does include dinner and live music at Town Square so far.

According to the site, More is soliciting those who "are of marrying age, and attracted to the tall and slender type, with an offbeat sense of humor, an SUV, his own home, and a recently obtained master's degree in Legal Studies from SIU."

Cole said he's not in the loop on the essay selection process, but it's saving him some money.

"It's cheaper than a personal ad," he said, joking that his ad would solicit people interested in someone who is "somewhat involved in politics."

The deadline for essay submissions is Feb. 14.

More said he would do his best to help anybody interested in getting married - politics aside.

If his essay contest helps Cole achieve his New Year's resolution, he will be thrilled. "It would exceed my expectations," he said.
