I admit to being cynical but getting married in this day and age is simply not a good idea. I think 66%+ marriages end in divorce. First off she gets at least half of everything you work your a$$ off to get. If you are financially secure, you take care of her and allow her not to work, you are stuck supporting her lifestyle. If you add kids to the mix, prenup or no prenup, you're in trouble. She's getting AT LEAST half of the possesions, plus the house, car and half of your net (not your gross) pay until your kids are 18. Divorce is not set up to benefit men, especially if there are kids involved. You are the man, divorce will kill you financially and leave you suffering till your kids are 18. Maybe you think you're special or different but the odds are not in your favor. I say keep your money in your pocket, buy a dog.

Just curious

You guys who don't want to get married ever.

Right now most of you are in late teens or twenty's.
Lots of young hot single women everywhere life is good right?

What happens when you get into your 40's or 50's.
The pickin's then are pretty awful. Wrinkles, cellulite, false teeth, gray hair. Don't think it's going to be easy to date a 25 year old when your 50.

Especially if looks matter to you.

By that time you might not be looking so good either. Weight gain, receeding hairline etc. something to think about

If you could stay in your 20's forever sounds pretty good but that's not gonna happen.

I agree with the above ^^^. Not wanting to marry is a pretty bold move when you're 60 with no one to take care of your dentures :D. My uncle used to think like that when he was mid 20's, but as soon as he turned 30 something clicked in him that said he should stop scewing around and get serious...the one thing he wanted was for his children to be able to play with their grandfather while it was still possible, because my grandfather is 87 now. It's something he values...

As for me I see myself settling down around 25-28, no earlier cuz I know I will be having fun well into the age of 24...I think that's like the peak of it all, but that's my opinion, I'm 19.

Man, this thread really is more about personal preference, than it is controversial. There's no reason to attack each other because everyone's opinion is valid. Right now? Marriage is at the bottom of my priority list. H3ll, I haven't even found a girl that is even worthy of my jizz. lol Most of the guy's I know, that are married, are hating life and it's not the 'Hollywood ending" they had hoped for. I respect the people that are married and say that they are happily married, but can you really believe them? No. I get bored very easily when I here people brag about how great marriage is, but behind closed curtains, they never tell you about they shouting matches, the hissy fits, and the breaking of furniture.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 50% of the people married today is the direct result of an unplanned pregnancy. This is very sad. What a h3llish nightmare that would be to endure. :cringes: I believe in telling it like it is, even if the truth hurts sometimes.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

The majority of the opinionated replies have been focusing on the negative issues and exaggerating them. Typical readers here are unsatisfied with their current female situation and It Shows.

Where's the hope, fellas? The hope that maybe you'll meet a woman with the COMPLETE package: 9+ looks, 5'6", long hair, great attitude, rarely nags, respects you and loves sex? Before age 30?

Have the negative people here considered that men who are successful with women and their careers do not share their disdain for marriage?

And that maybe, one day, this negativity will fade once that complete girl enters your life and you forget all your past girlfriends (or lack thereof)?

Have hope and know you'll find what you want in life. A true DJ would never be so pessimistic or cynical.

You think 50% of marriages are from an unplanned pregnancy?

Maybe in hillbilly country or the ghetto, but certainly not any part of the area I live. Maybe 5% there.

You are more likely to get divorced than stay married. Those are the stats. Like 'em or not.

Only in this country and only b/c people get into marriages too early without thinking of the consequences and planning the future.

The stats also say 100% of all people die
Live your life before then, in a way that's best for you

Man, reading this thread really makes me realize how fortunate I am. Look at my age over on the left, guys. I may well be the oldest guy here.

So why am I fortunate? Because people routinely guess that I am between 28 and 32 years old. Just last week a customer of mine guessed me at 28. The reason? Good skin (I literally have zero wrinkles on my face) and a young attitude.

I feel sorry for all you poor b*stards who are going to look horrible when you reach my age! Seriously, though, the great thing about growing older is that you have more mental resources to deal with life, and the women that you "date" tend to be more together. I sometimes read what you guys go through with young women and I shake my head in utter disbelief. I recall that I went through the same crap when I was that age. When you get older, the game playing diminishes, the femminist leanings evaporate, and you are free to be a real man (because they have learned to appreciate and value a good man).

But I digress, as older folk are wont do do....

The point I want to make is that the ideal age for marriage will be different for every man. I have never been married, but I was engaged once. My current girlfriend is a tad older than me, and she literally looks like she is in her early thirties. Only recently have I been anywhere near ready to marry, but obviously I am a late bloomer. You'll know when it is time to think about settling down. You will notice that you're tired of the fast lane and your value system will change in that you will begin to value stability more and more. It's a normal rite of passage, and it can happen in your early twenties, or it can happen in your mid-forties, as it did with me.

I think I've indulged in some bragging here, and I'm tempted to delete this whole thing, but I guess I'll send it in the hope that I said something remotely relevent. ;)

Well I have been through the divorce, lose $100,000 thing boys. I could have retired right now, for good if I had stayed single!!

Go ahead if you feel lucky. Half of you will get shot and of the survivors half will be unhappy. But go ahead. All the men who participated in Picketts Charge at Gettysburg thought they were going to make it to the top of Cemetary ridge. So go ahead, step off to the church... maybe you will be the 25% who actually have a good marriage. But don't listen to us "geezers"

BTW I can pass for 35, am very physically fit, and am dating a 21 year old now :) :)

DO NOT GET MARRIED...... Do you want to play golf forever on the same hole?

In the days of courtly love (1700's) there was a rule that everyone in court lived by. No gentleman is to be married before the age of 27 and no lady before 25. I think this is a perfect rule since the average brain doesn't completely develope until 22 or 23.

30-35 is usually when both men and women have mostly stabilized (that and they are no longer part of the youth demographics that are considered attractive) . If you marry 25-30, that's okay too because that's the stage where people START settling down.

It is good to be optimistic, I hope that your optimism stays with you throughout the ups and downs of life, it will carry you far.

Do you still believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and the tooth fairy? I think you will find the chick you described hanging out with the three of them!

I have hope, lots of it, I play the powerball every week. :D
