What would SS be like if it charged a fee?

Relax... We're not discussing implementing a fee structure over in the mod's corner. No, we're too busy dividing up our income from the fake spam we occasionally inject into the forum. :D

But seriously, let's do a thought exercise. I like Warrior's old statement that this place has a high signal-to-noise ratio, but that there's a lot of value here. I agree with that assessment.

Question: What would this site be like if there was a ten or fifteen dollar monthly fee to participate? What kind of man would stay here, what kind of man would join, and what kind of man would drop out?

How would the nature of discussion change? Would quality and value change for the better or for the worse? In what other ways would the climate here change? Would the site even sustain?

I thought it would be interesting for us to kick this idea around a little. We might uncover some useful information about ourselves in the process. Again, fret not; There are no plans (that I know of) for any kind of fee. This is simply an exercise that has the potential to give us clarity on the current culture and dynamics here.

Personally? I think only the desperate ones would stay. I dont pay monthly fees to hang out with my friends or to give advice. Its free. DJ come from a place of abundance and to just blow off some steam.

Also, I think alot of PUA 'experts' would join and push their own products instead of actually giving advice.

I use SS because its fun and its helped me talk out some of my own roadblocks or unique situations. I would miss the culture here but I think putting a price on SS would cheapen the overall quality of discussion and slow peoples improvement.

Youll end up with 2 extremes from each side of the spectrum

Youll have the hopeless desperates and the ones whove been here since day one, the veterans.

Anyone in between will leave. A huge chunk of the social posters here will disappear and the forum will turn into pure AFC topics. Thats my $0.02 though

The most knowledgable members would disappear. They have already internalized most of SS's knowledge and can handle themselves without this place, so why would they pay for it?

But the guys who are still AFC's or recovering AFC's would be willing to pay because SS still has much to offer to them.

In other words, the DJ's would leave and the AFC's would stay, so the place would deteriorate and all the poor AFC's would just have to try to help each other to their best abilities. It would be the blind leading the blind, lol.

It would be the end of civilization, the battle against feminism would be lost and all men would be turned into mindless slaves in a world ruled by women...

But hey, none of this is ever gonna happen. If SS would charge a fee, Naughty Ninja would pay for all the other members, coz he'd rather die than lose his audience...

How would he do that since he's been banned for life and a day?

This place would lose at least 50% of it's users.

I agree with DragonBlood, I think only desperate people would stay. The kind of people who pay for PUA products.

I would never pay for a message board, too many free ones around. Same reason I won't get XM/Sirius radio. I refuse to pay for radio, just on principle.

LOL! I thought you were joking but I see he was indeed banned. No idea what he did to deserve that but I'm sure he had it coming...

How about just pay a fee in order to post?

People would still visit. But only dedicated members could interact.

I think this would get rid of a lot of the nonsense in the forums.

You might have to add some features.... like a d1ck sucking machine module that pops up out of your computer whenever you log in.

It's actually not a bad idea IMO. $10 might be too much, a $3 maintenance fee might do the trick. Just enough to keep trolls out and enough to keep the rest on board.

It would be a tighter community. And, you could lift the 10 posts a day limit.

Or....

Just an example, you could change the post limit to 2 per day, unless you're a paying member, then it could be unlimited.
