Well I try to date interesting women, so I've never really thought about it but looking back what usually happens is we will be talking, with the radio either off or on very quietly to some random radio station (usually just top 40 type stuff).

If I actually want to listen to music, I plug in my Ipod and listen to what I want. She's trying to get to know you right? Might as well share your taste in music.

Though one time recently I did let her use her ipod because she wanted to show me some unique new music she found. That's cool too.

THis is the sort of mindless drivel that really makes me laugh.
IT comes from a mindset that believes that a guy has to set everything up just right to IMPRESS a woman. Chump thinking at it's worst.
IT is her job to impress you,and if she isn't doing that in an active way then don't bother to call her again..

Aye. Jophil always wise with the advice. However if you're dating a woman his age, I'd suggest oldies greatest hits :)

I listen to sports talk or conservative talk radio (and ironically - im not a fan of sports; nor do i even care about politics.) I get asked what the hell im listening to all the time... and it allows the women to tease me a bit... call me weird... and an old man... and i come back with my little sly replies (mostly x-rated)...

i just don't care about looking trendy or cool... or caring what they think about whatever im listening to... and if im reading a community book and read something that says you have to listen to the latest top 40 music when you're with women, etc (and i have read stuff like that) - then once i read that - i know not to read any further... it's bullsh!t... listen to what you want... and don't apologize for it. laugh about it. let it lead to flirting.

if she complains about it; turn it up... then turn it down and tell her to entertain you then...

Play whatever the f**k you want!

Show your taste in music. Why are you being afraid? Cater to your tastes before hers. For Pete's sake, you are not in a committed relationship with this girl!

Also, read bukowski's response.

Case closed.

I always put on my music, if I don't feel like changing songs while I'm driving I'll let her pick music from my iPod and tell her that if she makes a bad selection she'll lose iPod privileges.

That way I'm still in control, but I can find out what bands she likes...and I DO care about what she listens to because I'm very into music, and she's not LTR material if she has terrible taste in music.

But I won't dismiss this topic as completely AFC, he has a legitimate concern actually. I like to put on my favorite sexually-themed songs, mostly to put myself in that mindset. And I avoid putting on grindcore or anything really weird. So if you listen exclusively to metal, put on Iron Maiden or something, a girl could get legitimately creeped out if the first song you put on is by Pig Destroyer.

Rap is actually really lousy music.
Rap is very masculine.

Sounds great in the background while driving. Just play it a low enough volume so you can talk over it.

San Jose - you're being a closed minded fool just by the simple fact you're grouping a whole genre of music in the "no creativity" pool. I'm sure that in whatever style of music you listen to - there's a whole lot of popular artist from it (or people who claim to be it) that are widely considered untalented.

There are plenty of people in rap who are creative (from producers who still make instrumental albums which take your mind on a journey, to rappers who are so good with wordplay that they make poets look elementary); some are so creative that they aren't even liked by the majority of rap fans and have to go on predominantly rock oriented tours to get their fanbases...

PS: Most mainstream producers NO LONGER USE SAMPLES. They more or less figured out that if they create the sounds, either through hiring studio musicians, learning to play instruments themselves, or through synthesizers - it's wayyy cheaper than clearing a sample. So mainstream rap production now - actually takes music theory. And most producers went to a college for music.

I'm not the biggest fan of rap or all the bragging and chest pumping.... but not all rap is like that... and even some of that is good...

Joe Budden - Adrenaline (The guy on the 2nd verse is garbage but the 3rd verse is one of my favs of all time)
Felt - Woman Tonight (seduction music)
Saul Williams - Black Stacey (his last album (produced by Trent Reznor) was garbage and showed why rap shouldn't try to get too creative with the production)
POS - Optimist (does his own production and plays instruments; though this song isn't the best for production; it's still a good
Here's POS covering a Pearl Jam Song song
The Grouch - Breath (amazingly uplifting)

How is following the herd masculine? Nobody starts listening to rap because it's good; they listen to it because their friends do, and that's what's popular, so they think it makes them look cooler. But to me, they just look like people that have absolutely no creativity in music. They don't know what to play, so they go for the default, and think that they stand out and look cool and that the music "fits" them, forgetting the fact that half the country does the same.

It's the biggest genre that people rep no matter how ridiculous it sounds. I see people reppings songs with little kids singing in them (chain hang low) and beats that sound like they were ripped off the little mermaid lmao! You all know what I'm talking about. When you heard the little mermaid and the little kid singing song, you weren't thinking "this song's legit!" you were thinking "what the fvuck this song has an instrument from the little mermaid and that one has little kids in it". Admit it.
Rap, like any genre, has some really bad music. If you think I listen to Soulja Boy, forget it. I wouldn't be caught dead listening to that nonsense.

Listen to some old Nas or a Roots record. There's tons of good rap out there. It's also good, laid back music to cruise to and inherently masculine.

^ Perfect at a low-volume in the background. Trust me.

I enjoy very different types of music, but when Im on a date I dont play on my car things like Slayer or Darkthrone, wich are bands that I like but has nothing to do with a romantic / sexual date.

I usually play some intrumental rap, dub or trip hop stuff, wich are also music I really like and I think suits better the moment, I dont give a s*it if the chick likes the music I am listening to, if she is interested in me she will be digging the music I like.

Put what you want to listen to ATM... dont even think about it...

Sam Jose...I disagree...people dont listen to rap only because they think that will help them fit in or because their friends listen to it..As African Americans rap music is apart of our culture(now if it was a white person trying to fit in i could see where your coming from..like that one guy on malibu's most wanted)...Just like most Whites listen to Country and heavy metal...which i could talk down on because most African Americans think that heavy metal is pure garbage...

and to tsmith- i agree that it has some bad artists but which genre of music doesnt?

Its a purpose most of the rappers say or do the things they do...like Solja boy, wanted to make music that everyone could listen to like 6 to 108...

But hey everyone has their opinions and i cant do anything but add my 2 cents in!

i put on the local popular radio station. They usually play popular songs that are up to date. I keep the volume low as to be able to actually have a conversation. The music is there to basically cover silence when there is any as well as to create a comfortable light mood. Don't play anything ridiculous like hardcore rock, country, rap that has too much profanity, etc. You don't want the focus to be the music but to be you two instead.
