I have Karate training at 10am on Sundays. I try to get up at 8am and eat a good breakfast in order to have the energy for training.

However, as part of the warmup we do 20-30 pushups and crunches straight after. After the crunches I always feel dizzy, almost passed out last time.

This was after I've cycled to the dojo and done some warmup running. Had enough sleep... I can only think that my breakfast (porridge w/fruit) was bad? Maybe some more quick carbs directly before training?

What can you recommend? I don't care if it's healthy or stuff, I just don't want to pass out later.

Low carb) meat, eggs, nuts

Middle of the road) A few eggs, protein shake, oats

High carb) Protein shake, oats, couple bananas

With all) have a large cup of green tea. if your feeling sluggish, down a coffee before training.

Eating 1 hour before is good idea. Try to get both complex carbs and simple sugars in. A drink with fructose is okay, but one that has pure sugar is better for pre-workout.

If you are getting dizzy and light headed, eat a larger breakfast meal than you are used to (with more carbs) and see how that works.

Worst case scenario, check your blood sugar before you work out and after your pushups and crunches. Just before the workout, it should never, ever be below 100. After the crunches, check it. It should not be below 70.

If it gets below 70, you need to stop and take 15mg of pure sugar from a tablet or drink. Recheck your levels in 15 minutes and repeat if necessary.

Of secondary importance: How often to do workout? More specifically, do you have a workout the day before your karate session? If so, what do you do? What are you eating the day before? This information might help.

A banana is great to eat before working out. it satisfies you and keeps you from getting dizzy from a empty stomach. their high potassium content makes them tough to throw up if you're exerting yourself on the run.

Eat eggs.

My key to an mma pre-training meal is cholesterol. It has to be eggs or a chunk of a dead animal or both. I was a vegetarian for seven years. That was a good way to not get fat while I sat on my ass, but mma cured me of my vegetarianism very quickly. Eat meat.

Oh bother, then I have to cook it in advance the day before ;)
Anyway eggs sound good, I usually eat boiled eggs as a snack anyway, might as well eat one in the morning.

Last Sunday was OK, not as bad. Ate some leftover rice/meat for breakfast, and an apple later. Had some soft drink with me, was good.

I have the feeling that porridge/oats/muesli/etc doesn't really give you that much energy after all.

Fresh fruits and green vegetables great to eat in breakfast. it gives totally power and energy to work in full day time. Through that food we can maintain our healthy health and their high potassium content makes them tough to throw up if you are exerting yourself on the run.

Something simple as a watery piece of fruit could also help.

Orange, Mango, etc.
