You guys bring up some good points.

Either way, you can't deny that Apple has somewhat of a religious/cult following. It's quite the freakshow.

I have no idea how this became so widespread (Apple marketing maybe), but its not true. 3 years before the first Apple computer . .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_Alto

In fact, Apple copied much of its design from the Alto.

No way does the iPad or anything like it EVER replace the laptop. Funny, they say the smart-phone will replace the laptop too. And I remember hearing that "touch-screen" will replace the mouse.

The people who say all of those things are blinded by hype. My arm gets tired just thinking about having to use a touch-screen for everyday PC use. And good luck loading up a quick game of Left 4 Dead 2 or doing video-editing or even doing a spreadsheet on your iPad.

I agree that a tablet/laptop hybrid may be the future but you can bet your @$$ that it will still called be a LAPTOP COMPUTER.

Was the Xerox Alto a home PC? No. It was never sold to any consumer. So the Apple I was the first home PC (consumer PC). I'm pretty sure Xerox copied someone else too. Everyone copies something.
Sounds like you just hate touch screen devices. It's ok, some people hate typing on laptop keyboards just as much as you hate typing on touch screens.

Like I said, the Ipad like devices will get better with time and become much smoother systems.

Apple was deffinetly not the first to market the personal computer. Apple is never the first to create anything despite all the marketing and bull**** otherwise. You can't rewrite history.

Here's an interesting article on the history of personal computers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_personal_computers

Personal computers started in the early 1970s. The Apple I launched in 1976. It was already a semi-established market.

I personally hate touchscreens devices. Mainly because I tested software on touchscreen driven devices for 2 years, and realized working with them wasn't efficient, they break easily, and are expensive.

The keyboard (and mouse) are things that aren't going away because of their speed compared to other interfaces. A keyboard is still a keyboard even if it is on a laptop and slightly smaller.

Touch screen is wonderful for smart-phones, tablets, and jukeboxes. But for actual PC's? Get the f*ck out of here!

The article tried to make the case that the mouse was on its way out in favor of touch-screens. It was so nonsensical it made me angry.

Imagine doing Photoshop with your arm constantly extended to the monitor! The idea of it was so ridiculous, but the writer was so sure of it. It was maddening.

But I digress .. saying Apple was the first PC is like saying the iPod was the first portable mp3 player.

See, you're still an American at heart. Were you too effeminate for American women? Do they appreciate the "finer things" where you're at now? That's nice. Good for you, bud.
Huh? iPad2 is massive all over the world. Kiev is loaded with them. Go to Double Coffee tomorrow. Every annoying rich kid has one. Some rich teenager pulls it out of her $2,500 Hermes bag and acts as if she knows what the hell it is. I seriously doubt if she knows what an app. even is. However, mags like Tatler Russia and Otkrito have taught her that she needs one.

Effeminate is sticking around America and marrying a 30 year old woman who has been around the block a few hundred times. Effeminate is watching the NFL. Effeminate is changing diapers. Effeminate is jerking off to your college years when you could bone some chubby 19 year old.

The iPad is the start of the future for mobile computing. This type of device will eventually replace the laptop soon. It's a great business toy. Great to pull up stocks on, read newspapers, browse the web, watch videos etc.
I have seen and used someone elses one before and i thought it was pretty good. It may not replace the laptop but i do think it will take some laptop sales away. I could possibly consider getting one even though i don't really like apple stuff. :) :)
