Not sure but bright colors on insects in general indicates poison.

Black widows are common here in California, they usually keep to themselves. Normal ant/roach spray will kill them. Their webs are messy, unlike other spiders. And, hatchlings are quite a bit more poisonous.

As a child, I kept one in a jar and fed it flies, until someone told me I could be dead. Poor spider.:p

@wifehunter your post helped me the most. I went to google images after reading it, and found black widow webs and walnuts. I do have those in my basement.

I did ask people around here about them. They told me they are black widows but are not poisonous. I'm not taking any chances though.
