Agreed. Boxing and Kick-Boxing is as close as you can get to real life fighting.
If you develop a powerful punch, you won't have to learn Ju Jitsu because you will never be on the ground, you will just knock them out with one punch.

Just do a martial art that will keep you coming back.

Ever since I learned how to fight I never got in a fight ever again. Nor have I allowed myself to be intimidated again.

It also teaches you never to underestimate your opponent. I remember sparring against a girl and she kicked me square in the chest - couldn't breath. Another time I gave a black belt 3 jabs on the forehead and he said he could feel the plates of his head shift. They were soft jabs, but precisely in the same spot. Teaches you that strength isn't the most important thing. It's technique that's important.

Whether you train BJJ, JJJ, Judo, Boxing, kickboxing, MMA, or whatever, just make sure that the trainer knows what he's talking about.

I live in the netherlands where a lot of kickboxing World Champions come from, so for me the best would be kickboxing.

If you're in Japan, I say either Judo or Jiu Jitsu, doesn't matter which. If you're in Brazil: do BJJ.

Since you're probably in America, I recommend you simply do boxing. All the great boxers, besides the klitschko brothers are from the states. So do that.

Also, find a trainer you like and a gym you like with cool people.

eh, im not sure this is accurate.

in a boxing ring you can back someone off with your jab and a few 1-2s while using the ring.

what do you do, if say, a bouncer or someone as large as a bouncer is charging at you at the bar? where will you pivot? how is hand skills and a hard punch gonna help you?

i have a stiff accurate jab and very strong right hook with the hand speed and timing for flashKOs/knockouts. but im not gonna risk it all on landing my right at a charging bull. im gonna run the fvck away. even if i do land a right hook or uppercut, by comparison, it wont do shlt to a guy whos 6'3 and weighs 260 lbs as opposed to a guy in my weight division in the ring.

thats when you throw headbutts, elbows and knees and then run away
The point of learning a martial art is that you remain calm when other people try to rile you up, thus avoiding a confrontation.

Talking about which martial art is the best is like talking about which cooking style is the best. It doesn't make a fvcking difference, the best chef will make the best food.

So even if you do MMA, including grappling, wrestling, kickboxing, throws, takedowns, everything - if you ever get into a skirmish with a boxer/judoka/whatever who's honed his skills more and invested more time into his skills, his physique, practices more frequently, etc: you will lose.
