What is the driving force behind this myspace craze?

I'm just curious what everyone thinks is the appeal to this myspace.com. Specifically, why do people (especially the young women) feel the need to tell the whole world, by use of "comments" what they are up to. Do I really need to know that Susie is going to arrive at Judy's house at 4:00 to see her new outfit, even if I'm one of Susie or Judy's other friends? I only ask ya'll to pine in on this topic because it seems so many of the "hot" girls are on this myspace and I'd like to have a better understanding of the "psychology" behind their need to do this. Is it conceit, in that they feel the whole world wants to know what they are doing? (And I guess by just asking about this "plays" some sort of self-fulfilling AFC response to the whole thing.) I personally think myspace.com is a red flag for an LTR and would only consider these chicks just for the short-term......

ha ha, last year my girlfriend said that she was thinking about getting an account with myspace. I asked her why, she said "I wanna put my picture up there so my friends can give me comments and stuff." I laughed and said "go ahead babe, I'll get one too then, sounds kool." She asked why I would want one, and I said, "well why not, so my friends can like.. like.. give me comments and stuff". She then promptly backed out and didnt' think it was a good idea anymore.. go figure

My girlfriend says she's on it because she's a "busy body." Her words.

She keeps track of everyone. And everyone's friends. And their friends. People she doesn't even talk to or want to talk to or will ever talk to.

I got a MySpace page, but personally think sites like those are stupid and boring. It's much better experience to practice Djing in real life, instead of behind some computer. It is, however, alot easier to get a girl's # and information.

Ah come on.
It's quite fun to go on Myspace. Plus it's a cheap & easy way to keep in contact with friends & maybe make new ones.
& the girls i talk to on Myspace are in my local area, so you get some small talk, show of my amazing personality, then one night, you're in a club, & she comes over to you shouting "Oh my God! You're on Myspace! You're SO funny!!!" & it's easy pickings.

Even if you don't pull her, you make a new friend, meet her friends & all of a sudden, you know alot of people, or have strong social proof with very little effort.

But anyway, yeah, there are certain women that post about 8-9 bulletins a day with either a never ending quiz describing their fav colour & last time they cried & other meaningless jibberish, or they beg for pic comments & messages off people. They are simple attention *****s & there are a lot of hapless guys who post "OMG you're so pretty!".. but it just makes it easier for you to stand out & post something original to catch her attention..

Myspace is GREAT!

It's just another trend in the increasion isolation of the individual person.

No surprise it's an American invention... from the country that has tried harder to make sure people spend as little time as possible with each other. Buy your own house in the suburbs seperate from other people. Buy your own car so you don't have to see people on the subway/tram. Get your own computer so you can sit in your darkened room and play video games.

Anyone ever see that video by Pearl Jam "Do the Evolution"... where the final evolution of mankind was a drooling fat guy in a slum apartment watching kiddie-rape-porn on his virtual reality helmet? We're getting there.

Myspace is the proto-virtual self. Why actually TALK to other people to tell them about yourself when you can just throw every detail of your life up and let them do the work? It's such a wierd passive-agressive "I'm too shy but I'll just throw it all out there" stance.

One of the things I like about the sosuave site is that it promotes getting the heck out of your house and going OUT SIDE. Real face-to-face social communication is dying.

I use it to keep in contact with friends/family after highschool. You can't have face to face conversations 500 miles away.

You use a scanner or a digital camera and load the pic on ur PC. You save it and go to where it says edit/add photos on your home page. Follow the instructions. :D

It seems as if we are becoming more isolated as a society. People like to stay home and not really go out and do anything. Most people don't even know who their neighbors are. It's a sad comentary on our culture. Face to face contact is the only way to meet people.

DUDE PERFECT POST!!!Thats is defintely true, its better to talk then "type" because when you see the person face to face you can communicate better physicaly, and mentaly. But when your on the computer your hardly communicating the only way your communicating is through "typing",and with your eyes all do you is see computer words being typed, and it can be a boy sometimes pretending as a girl, trust me it happened to me.This jerk from my school pulled a prank on me,he made a fake myspace account pretending as a girl, then send me a friend request. But I was stupid enough to believe it was A REAL GIRL!Accepted it,then I chatted with the so called female, next minute you know when I called the number it was A GUY playing a prank on me to get a good laugh, uhh myspace sucks!!!

Well, i agree with the whole "we're slowly becoming more isolated" theory, & i've actually had arguments with friends about this in the past.. It's refreshing to see that i'm not the only one who noticed this trend...

But back to Myspace.. It's a bit of fun! I think in this sense you're over-analysiing the whole thing. Yeah, for MOST people on their, they're shy & insecure & this is the only way in which they can communicatate with the oppisite sex & appear cooler than they could possibly be in real life..

But, that doesn't have to be you! I use it to my advantage & sending messages that are witty & don't pander to her ego always makes you stand out.

I'm not saying that Myspace should be used as a substitute for real world activities, but as fun side diversion. You may even find a "soul mate" that you would otherwise never have found in real life.
