I'm really into head gear. I'm generally wearing some sort of cap or a wool knit cap. I'm also a fan of formal head wear such as derbies, porkpies, homburgs, and fedoras.

There was once a time when a man wouldn't be seen outside without a hat on. I've looked at pictures of ball games back in the 50,'s 40's 30's and everybody in the crowd had on a hat.

Hats have a certain eloquence about them and they're the ulimate accessory, even more so then a watch or a money clip. To put it bluntly, hats are "fly," as hell.

It's often been said that when Kennedy started appearing in public hatless, that men followed suit and thus because the decline in hat wearing. I think it's fair to say, knowing how to dress period began it's decline in the sixties. It's not neccessary to wear a suit or blazer everyday, then come home lounging around the house looking like Ward Cleaver, but every man should own at least two suits and have two blazers with slacks to go with them. And unintended result of all this single motherhood nonsense is the number of boys and men who don't know how to tie a tie. Which in itself is absurd.

Just curious, do any of you wear formal headwear?

Come to Camden, every skinny young indie kid is sporting a little pork-pie hat.

Back in the 80s I used to wear a cowboy hat. Chicks dig em.

Well I know I don't wear hats because my school's dress code didn't allow them. I guess I just got so used to not wearing them, I don't think about it.

John F. Kennedy.

He was the first hugely important guy who walked around outdoors with no hat. Had such fabulous hair, I guess.

wearing hats helps male pattern baldness, thus people don't wear hats as often anymore lol.
On that note though every fashion trend makes its way back everything is a revolution, so look for hats to come back in fashion within a few years. You can already see them coming back slowly. Your wish will come true dont worry lol

I still sport the backwards baseball cap. Looks alright with longish hair!

Love it when I can take my hat off, put it on a lady, and have them run their hands through my hair. They seem to like it too.

Bring back hats!

I'm a fan of hats also. I've got a fedora: nobody touches it but me. I'm such a jackazz about it. People have no respect. They see a cool hat on your head and instantly reach to grab it. Then they get pizzed when you smack away their hand for reaching up in your face. People just don't know how to act around hats. I mean, it's genuine rabbit felt. I keep it clean and free of lint: that's how it stays looking pimp. With all these people's grubby mits handling it, it would look like crap in a week.

I have another hat that was made for me out of Racoon fur. It's a big Russian looking hat. It fuxxing ROCKS in the winter. Chicks wet themselves when I let them "pet my hat". It's super soft.

I want a skunk one in a major way.

All sorts of cool fur gear there. My uncle fleshes pelts for those guys, and I'm "friends" with the chick that did/does a lot of the sewing for them. I'm actually taking a trapping class from the guy that owns that shop this fall. Dude, they have genuine fur bikinis there... check out their site! If you ever wanted a super awesome peacocking hat - this is your spot!

(Just beware of the crazies with spraypaint!)

I wear Baseball caps, surfer caps and beanies all the time (like 6 out of 7 days of the week), but thats as far as it goes for me. Never wear formal hats, thats my chance to spruce up and actually do my hair for once.

That made me laugh!

Hats can be a cool accessory, but since they trap in sweat/oil, they can get nasty reaaal fast and are hard to wash.

That's why I quit wearing mine so much,

can't do much with my hair so I went military style.

If they invented "hat Deoderant" or anti-sweat hats that would be
a good start... hell just build AC into the hat , use the mobster hat though.

I don't know. It's certainly less common. I know I adhere to the old "must wear hat when outside" social rule, and the "never wear hats when inside for long periods of time" social rule. To me it's not a question of "hat or no hat," but "which hat?"

I figure that it's OK to leave your hat on when inside if A) you just arrived, B) you're leaving, C) running a errand (bank, coffee to go, etc.), or D) you're stuck in a waiting room. I figure it's not OK if you're say, meeting someone at a restaurant, at an interview of some sort, or entering a private residence (whether it's your own or someone else's). An exception to the last one is if you don't plan to stick around, like if you're just dropping something off. Basically, if you sit down indoors and it's not in a waiting room, you don't wear the hat.

I normally wear a hat like this when I'm not being formal: http://www.millerhats.com/millerkan_catalog/mkangol.html (style 667 or 670)

Sometimes, if it's cold and I need my leather jacket, I also wear a hat that looks a lot like this: http://www.millerhats.com/mdressfelt_index/mdressfelt.htm (style 142)

I also have a fedora and derby (only used when I wear a suit), and a top hat (only used if I wear my tuxedo).

But then again, I'm not sure if I'm good role-model for day-to-day informal fashion. I always tuck in, regardless of the occasion. And I basically dress the same every day, unless I'm wearing a suit. I even wear the same boots and belt every day (yes they match).

I do think it's funny how hats aren't more common. They can keep the sun out of your eyes in the summer, and keep your head warm in the winter. The downside is that sometimes hats and certain hair styles don't mix well together.

That's an interesting point. Think about it. Back in the days when every guy wore a hat, there wasn't much variation in men's hairstyles. It was either bald or short, with no particular style to mention. Long hair was practically unheard of. Hats work great for bald or short hair.

Then today, there are so many different styles of hair, it would be a shame to cover them up (and a public service to cover others) with a hat. They dye it, they cut it, they fix it up with braids and style it in fancy ways. People want to show off their hair.

I wear a Kangol whenever I have an opportunity (and my hair is on the shorter side).
I also haven't been able to find a fedora hat that I liked yet, and I have looked lol.

If anyone has any information on good hat sellers and various styles of hats post it here so we may all use it.

I have a sort of top hat that gals really dig. When it's too hot for me to wear it, they often say "where's your hat?"

Yeah, chicks do dig 'em. And they go for cool shoes, too.
