Went out for one of my friend's birthdays last weekend and it was a good time. There was a good group of us; we started at a nice steak house, then hit a couple bars. One of my girlfriends brought her sister out for the first time and we really clicked; she was in town just for spring break, but is graduating in May and is planning to move here. Possibly game on with her.

After the bar we went back to a buddy's place to chill and wind down for a bit. They pulled out a pipe and were doing rounds. I don't typically smoke, so passed. After awhile I was like what the hell, I don't get drug tested, have a stable job, why not. Well I haven't smoked in about 3-4 years, and accidently took a fairly big hit off of some potent stuff. It hit me pretty hard.

It was head to the pillow about five minutes afterwards, but I didn't exactly fall asleep. Apparently I was in and out of consciousness; it felt very weird, like I was in a dark tunnel trying to get up. One of my friends said she saw me start to throw up a little (while I was sleeping), so they poured water on me, but I didn't wake up completely. I think I was trying to wake up but all they saw were my eyes twitching and kind of freaked. They called the ambulance (this part I don't remember), and only remember waking up in a cat-scan machine 6 hours later. For the severe reaction I had, my BAC was pretty low (the nurse said it was ~.13), and the doctor thought there were more drugs involved. {Side note; it was pretty cool that doctors and police and ambulance didn't care that we smoked, although they obviously warned us to be more careful about it} I felt perfectly fine when I woke up, so they just let me go.

Have any of you experienced anything like this before? I don't understand why I had such a severe reaction. This wasn't laced weed as there were a lot of people smoking without any issue.

Please spare me the lecture about drugs and alcohol because that is not constructive. Obviously, I am not going to repeat what I did this night, but in all honesty, what I did was not unusually bad that should warrant what occurred. I'm not a rookie drinker and while I haven't smoked in ~3-4 years, I used to do it on ocassion during college, and never reacted like this. It was definitely one of the creepiest and disturbing experiences I've ever had; at one point I wasn't sure if I was even alive. Like I mentioned, it was like I was in a dark tunnel and had to keep moving up, but there always was another level on top. I vaguely remember brief moments of hearing my friends, but I couldn't tell reality apart from my "dream".

Luckily the new girl was not with us at the end of the night so didn't see that, I'm hoping she doesn't hear about this incident.

I had a similar incident in Toronto last summer. We were there in the Summer for a hockey tournament, and a few guys on the team smoke, and one guy wanted to go score some (we're American, and obviously no one wanted to take it across the border). It was one of those first truly awesome Summer nights of the year in downtown T.O.- 75ish, sunny all day, no breeze, etc... so even though I hadn't smoked in about 3 or 4 years and wasn't interested, I told my teammate I would go with him just to enjoy the walk while the rest of the team stayed at the bar.

My buddy ends up talking to some rather hip and urban looking dudes as we're walking, and as luck would have it, the guy not only knew where to get it, it was back as his apartment. We got back to the apartment, and the two guys were very cool- no gay stories coming, lol- they were just two very friendly social guys, offering us mixed drinks, and chatting with us while the dude rolled one for my buddy, and some other people came filtering in (friends of theirs).

They proceeded to spark one up, and started passing it around, and I declined the first few times. Just like your story, I hadn't smoked in a few years, I was more a drinker-but we were having a good time and out of town in "party mode" so eventually I said what the hell. I took a couple of tokes, probably a little too much, like you did. I actually tried not to smoke much too, but this was obviously some good stuff. About 5 minutes later, I am talking to one of the guys who was playing us some music he'd written, and it hit me out of no where like a ton of bricks. My face got hot and flush, I felt weird, and I quickly got to the point where I felt "too stoned" to carry on conversation. Not saying that can't be fun, but when you're around people you don't really know in a city in a foreign country, with a long night a head of you-probably not the best place of that.

I started to get paranoid and have a mini-anxiety attack. Felt like the walls were closing in, sorta claustrophobic, and my face was really hot. I went and splashed some cold water on my face, and of course, realized I was way too high, and was also worried it was laced with something. I went to retrieve my friend to let him know we had to leave. Ironically, he was feeling pretty "pent up" too, with some of the same effects, and was ready to go too-we were away from our teammates for about 2 hours at that point, way longer than we had planned.

Once we got outside in the night air and started to walk it off, it was actually one of best times I had in a long time. We were both so stoned, we got lost about 9 times trying to find our way back to Yonge Street (mind you, I played hockey in Ontario, and was not a stranger to the city per se), and were laughing about everything.

When we got to back to the team (we actually just ran into some of them on the street), they smoked it too, and commented it was some of best stuff they'd had. And these guys were hard core smokers, so I didn't feel as silly about being so ripped.

I think having smoked previously, your body ready accepts and the chemical receptors easily bind, making you get stoned really easily when you haven't smoked in a long time. And your tolerance is obviously down to nothing. Nausea can also be a common side effect of smoking, especially when combined with alcohol. I would not worry about it too much, it sounds like you just got too ripped.

As much fun as I did end up having, that may well be my last experience with it, now that I am in my 30s.... especially in unfamiliar surrounds like that.

damn.... are you sure it wasn't laced? Anyways, there is a thread in the Anything Else section about drugs, you might get better responses from seasoned druggies in there, lol.

Did you eat? Did you drink something?

It happens sometimes. Always know your limits first!

And double the importance of that advice if you
1. Haven't been on drugs latley and it's some potent stuff!
2. You didn't eat or you drinked a little!
3. You don't know much about what you're smoking!

Make sure you have a lot of time before you do something like this again! Because it's likley that you will feel like going asleep, and you'll maybe have to get up to puke a copule of times.

I don't think it's a big deal. Try to stay away from smoking too much or the experience can be negative. Stop smoking if you feel like it's going wrong, you should only get a postive feeling. If you don't you overreacted, and I hope you learn from the lesson! :p

Beer before grass and your out on your ass. Grass before beer and you're in the clear.

But that is just fvcked, I've never had a bad experience on weed.

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

Reminds me of the last time I smoked, roughly five years ago.

I was drunker than **** on some act right.... (E&J) and they start passing a bowl , I grab that ****er hell yeah! Take a few passes then all of a sudden im like whoaaaaa I gotta go out side.

I go out to my truck, hop in and toss the keys in the glove compartment and start puking out the door! Then I puked some more and fell asleep for sure.

I had to have my friend drive me home at the end of the night.

Never had a reaction like that but it sounds kind of scary. There's a reason they call it a "trainwreck".

Hey guys,

Just to follow up full circle on this post from about two years ago, this was an isolated and odd experience. I still feel it to be one of the strangest and weirdest nights of my life.

The girl mentioned briefly above became a good friend but moved away for grad school. She's a rare breed; a chick with a guy's personality but is also hot. However she's also very guarded; she makes friends easily but it is difficult to break the 'platonic' line.

Anyway, I took a break from smoking for a little over a year. I think since that time I've only smoked twice. To be honest, it just makes me sleepy and anti-social, so I usually regret doing it. My friend who is the one who gets me to smoke suggests I don't drink at all the nights I smoke, so I may try that in the future.

Thanks again for all the responses!

Usually the effects of ethanol and cannabis combine to produce quite the enjoyable experience, but occasionally they can be a bad mix and make you sick or freak out. It's just one of those things. I would just suggest steering clear of the reefer when you're very drunk because it can put some people over the edge. Remember, everything in moderation, but when you're consuming to excess, don't mix too many things together.
