I don't like the new bond movie. The director is making it like McGyver TV show. we don't need to see the wonder years of McGyver again. James bond suppose to use millitary weapons and acquire hot chicks along the mission. We want to see cool gadgets, weapons instead of farmer's pitch fork.

Maybe he's trying to go for a James Bond who uses his intellect to solve problems. This was a big thing for Patrick McGoohan in Danger Man(John Drake) and the Prisoner. Also, John Drake never kissed a girl on screen. And he never used sci-fi style gadgets. I think I sort of like that kind of secret agent better than the superhero/superspy type. I think John Drake and Number 6 (not the same character) also got through their respective series while only shooting one person to death. Espionage is more about moves and countermoves, not really about car chases and swashbuckling.

RE: Gadgetry - For Your Eyes Only and From Russia With Love were more about espionage and intrigue, vs. gadgetry and action. Goldeneye was kinda like that, too.

Michael Caine was a great understated secret agent in the Ipcress File.

My biggest problem with Daniel Craig is his stated aversion to guns.
Sorry, but pistol skills are a part of the Bond character, but he apparently tried to tailor the action to keep guns out of the film and have Bond use more improvised weaponry.
he ran around with a pistol and shot a guy in layercake..

im sure he'll be fine there...

Yup... he sure did... was just about the only scene in which he used or wielded a gun in that film... and his character stated his aversion to guns, too.

I like the choice of Daniel Craig. He has more of a gritty, rough vibe about him than the skinny, handsome pretty-boy Bond, Pierce Brosnan. That's also kind of reflected in the direction they're taking the movie in general. And that's a-okay with me. The Brosnan Bond movies were turning to total crap.

I think he'll be able to pull it off and be a decent Bond. Personally, I would have liked it better if Christian Bale got the part, but he's too big now to make Bond movies.

Has anyone actually seen this movie? I'm thinking about taking a date to it and I want some opinions.

Craig is much better with the physical scenes than most Bonds (rivals Connery). There is this one scene where he literally runs through a wall.

My main complaint is that the film is a bit drawn out in the third act (Venice). It is one of the longest Bond film at 2.5 hrs long.

The film shows Bond being AFC'ish with Vesper, AFTER he lands her. But he eventually learns from this 'mistake', and ends up being the womanizing/lonewolf he is later on. This AFC 'mistake' was the main character development point in Fleming's original story.

It's better than the last films. But to be fair to Brosnan, Craig is given better material. I only recommend it if you like long espionage films with a dose of brutality. It's nothing like the Brosnan films.

BTW, Murino is hot as hell, much hotter than Green :D

Just a question, isn't it a good thing to have a movie character with some depth?

I mean, James Bond seems to be the world's most predictable character: He gets secret mission, blows sh!t up, kills bad guy, everyone lives happily ever after. All the while without any real emotions beyond "I'm bored, I'm horny, I'm bored".

Man, this is a pretty good movie. During the Venice scene, my friends were starting to doze a bit (though we DID get the 12:05 AM show) and I said "it's about to pick up" when all of a sudden...

I was right.

If you can get a decent showtime and appriciate Bond movies, you should have no problems with this. Great ending too. It sets up the next movie.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

I like the reinvention of bond. It's a little bit more gritty and a little bit less over the top then the other ones. Maybe this will make us rethink the way we think of bond from now on out. My date had never seen a bond film EVER and she thought it was fantastic, though a little long. All in all I thought it was a really good movie.

now I havent seen the movie yet, just a few previous and quotes...

I dont like how he snubbed the previous bonds

"Does it look like I care?!" about the martini.

speaking of previous bonds...

Connery was awesome. suave yet deadly.

The Lazenby guy sufficed for the one movie, but was nothing special.

Moore was alright, but his "one-liners" were lame at times, and his movies were often campy (goofy gadgets, outrageous plot, etc)

Dalton was good. his character was darker than the other Bonds, (actually, apparently Dalton had the best portrayal of the "Bond" character)

Brosnan was definitely one of the better Bonds (big selection here :D)
certainly rivaling the big man, Connery

Craig... not sure, havent seen the movie. but seems a bit too build for Bond if u ask me

Yes DJDamage, Clive Owen could have been a good Bond.

Moore was a pvssy. Lazenby was OK but didn't last long. Sean was the best to date. So what if Brosnan was a bit soft, a lot of the movie role involves one liners and double entendre with chicks, and wearing dinner suits, which doesn't really go with being a total gorilla.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
