What do YOU think of tattoos?

So let me know what you think of tattoos? Recently I have gotten this urge to get one or two. Nothing huge or rediculous, I dont like color on them, just black. I want it to be something with meaning to my life, what better than the symbol of life.

I think that would be lame as hell. If your gonna get tattoo'd, get a REAL one. If you want an ankh, thats fine, a good artist can work an ankh into a really good detailed peice of ART, not just some symbol. Those itty bitty simple black tattoo's people get are cheesy, and people usually get them covered up when they get a clue about what tattoo's should be. A simple Ankh isnt much better than some gay tribal.

I googled twenty pages of ankh tattoo images, and didnt find any that i wouldnt laugh at if I saw.

It will be on you for the rest of your life, so do it right. Dont just get one, to get one. Thats great, that you want meaning, but if it doesnt look BAD FVCKING ASS, it isnt worth doing. Go to some shops, and see what some REAL ink looks like, before you decide.

Thats gay as aids. I have four tats and wanna get some more. I have faith on the inside of on arm and "learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow" on my tricep on the same arm. On the other arm i have a tree and mountains and one half is day and the other is night with a moon and an owl, and a sun and a bird on the other side. On the inside of the same arm i have a cathedral thats half heaven half hell with upside down crosses. Both represent balance in a more artistic way than a ying yang.

I think tattoos look great on women, but not too overkill. 2 or 3 is probably good. I particularly lately like when a hot chick has a tattoo on her leg(calf). That gives me a big woody.

A far as tattoos for myself, I don't ever care to have one. I like them on everyone else but myself.

I could never put any permanent modification on my body. Not so much because I think it's bad or wrong, but because I have no idea whether I'm going to hate it 15 years from now or what it'll look like on my one day sagging and wrinkling skin.

thanks a lot for the replys. especially the first two posters. This is why I came here and asked first, I realise now that I need to go out and look around and learn something about tattoos first.

Seriously though, Im guilty too. When i was 18, and knew nothing about good tattoos, I got a totally GAY tribal legband! I admit it. All the work I've had done since is top notch, and award worthy, and I KNOW I wont regret them. I put a LOT of thought into my pieces, and make sure they're drawn to beat my expectations. The only reason I dont have full sleeves, is that I have trouble thinking of anything good enough.

TheSplat has a point though... If you're old and wrinkly anyway, it doesnt really matter what your tattoo's look like.

Anyone thinking about getting their first tattoo. Dont make the same mistake we did! Unless you're an Aborigine...Dont get anything tribal. That was a trend from the 90's, that still has yet to die out. A good rule of thumb, is if the artist isnt excited about the design, work on something better. Get their honest opinion, and I would stay away from the pre drawn flash designs. Those are for people who dont know what they want, and therefore shouldnt be getting one anyway.

I've thought about getting a tat. But in order for to get it, it would have to be an image or a phrase that has a deep meaning to me. So far I haven't come across anything that I'd want to have on my body for the rest of my life.

Thats gay. Unless youre hawaiian or something and get a tribal tat done by the masters with that stick thing, youre tribal tat makes you a fag. Just so you know. I think it shows a lack of creativity and a desire to be "cool" by having a tat. Step your game up son.

Tattoos are awesome. I someday want to get a traditional japanese over my entire back. Tattoo's on chicks also look hot, if they're done right. I can't stand those cliched ones that people just seem to pick out of a 'tattoos for beginners' picture book, like the chinese characters or stupid tribals.

Why would I be mad? You dont think that was a picture of MY tattoo do you??? Oh HELL no. Except for the one on my leg, my tat's are badass. I live next door to the top rated shop in Northern Nevada, and the artists are all my friends. I will NEVER settle for less with a tattoo anymore.
