Wolfie, I am no expert on this but I'll ramble for a minute.
Her hampster wants you too and thinks you should be chasing her, complimenting her, calling her, texting her. The hamster eats attention like we eat food. When you don't feed it, she'll wonder why not, and she might seek you out to try and understand what's wrong with either you or her that you're not feeding her attention craving.
So the advice isn't to ignore her communication, it's to ignore her silence. If she does reach out to you, awesome! Game it up. If not, after an appropriate period of time (2 weeks?), contact her to ask her out only. If she says no, forget her.
