There were so many suggestions that I had to ask a couple of questions, so I could understand the situtation better and maybe help some other people here out as well :)

A lot of your friends WILL look out for you. Not everyone is out to screw you over like High School.
What exactly do you mean by this? Do you mean screw you over in terms of girls?

When meeting people, and there was a LOT of people, for class tours and whatever, I would make a great effort to become the host. I would start up the convos, the introductions and the outgoing nature in the group. This was so damn important because it led to my first 10 friendships being formed, 2 of which are best friend-friendships. In the dorms, i would never stay in my room for more than ten minutes at a time, because that would be shutting myself off from all the socialising.
so where exactly did you go when you left your dorm?

sadly, this whole behavioural change wore off and i soon reverted to my old not-so-outgoing ways. damn, changing yourself can be tough.
How did it just wear off? Did you not enjoy the rewards?

OXIDE said: - came to my door giving me "you tried to rape her" ****
how did you deal with this? this sounds pretty bad.

btw keep it coming :D

when i left my dorm i would be in the kitchen (main communal area) or out with the guys.

it wore off because i had only created an instantenous and short term change. I changed from the shy guy to extremely outgoing host-like life of the party guy. That was all very great but i soon changed back after the first few weeks. lesson to be learned: change can only happen if you make it consistent; you can't take a little break from it and expect to be that different person again; you won't be.
i did enjoy the rewards, but i felt more comfortable in my old state of living

crazy, you should elaborate on this one.. i know there are too many guys who think it is easier than chinese prostitutes.

How did i deal with that? I called her up and said "Sorry for my actions, i was thinking you wanted more". And to the guy who wanted to start sh1t with me becuase of this, i bascially told him to leave me alone.

One thing is great- hot weather+college girls. So much ass it is scary. Im rollerbalding right now and damn it is hard to keep the eyes on the road ;)

time to call up some chicks to play tennis with.. peace.

When someone gets to college, they will look around and go "look at all these hot girls! I'm getting some ass from a fine chick soon!" Come day two, you'll go "man, why aren't these girls flocking to me?" Because they either:

- Try and study to get through college quickly

- Already have boyfriends

- Are a certain fraternity's sweethearts (see: fraternity whore)

Yes, girls will be around and be open to you. Just don't expect thier legs to be open 24/7.

To become the leader of your group, you just have to make friends and take control. Making friends is easy in college if you just talk to people. Besides, that fear is something everyone goes through.

Pay attention during orientation. You don't want to get lost going around campus trying to find a class. Plus, don't hesitate to talk to people and try and make some friends then.

Go all out during orientation. Start talking to chicks/guys who sit next to you... you need to get to know as many people as possible. Since this is an overnight stay, i am imagining there is some kind of social event planned. Something like bowling or pool hall. If you talk to enough people during orientation, you can find cool people to hang out with, then switch roommates so you stay in same rooms.

That is what i did for mine. We had like 8 people in our group, all cool open guys. WHen we went bowling, chicks just started coming over to us.. Then we went to our rooms and started mooing girls in the building across from us. You could drink, but i woudnt advice it, you gotta be a major dumbass to get a minor during orientation.

I dont mind being a leader, but that is not what im after. I enjoy being a cool open guy who eveyone can talk to and have fun with. When i go to parties, i see who is doing something fun, then i start doing it with them ( One party some people were playing a game where u bang on the table and then yell "Now drink mother****er, drink mother****er, drink". I asked for the rules, then joined in. The rest of the crowd sat there wondering what the hell were we doing...

Get to know the owner of the party house, or the host. Get in his good graces. This is very good for future benefits. ;)

Some general stuff:

Never talk trash. About anyone. You never know who is friends with who, and what will happen. ( i was once in a frat party, called one chick fat, she was gf of one of the guys... i almost got my ass kicked, had to walk home)... lesson learned. Keep your mouth shut, like confucious said :

"A true gentelman only points out the good qualities in a man, a weak man only points out the wrongs".

If you live in the dorms, find people to hang out with, it isnt hard at all. There are many clubs here, like ultimate freesbie, rollerblading, intramural sports, all sorts of fun.

Just remember- people are generally good, so dont worry when you start talking to someone and they walk away. Move on, life is too short to worry about idiots.

In college... you can make friends any and everywhere. Orientation, classes, clubs, hell... just walking around. No need to be afraid to make friends or anything like that, all you have to keep in mind is that everyone there (especially during orientation) is just as worried as you are. Just take the initiative to go and talk to them.

As for the girls being "easier" in college... I see little difference between girls in college and High School in terms of "easiness"... to me... a lot of the rules still apply. There are still "groupies" in college, then there are sweethears (that Crazykid mentioned) and stuff like that. Yeah... you can get your fare share in college, but guys who are in groups (like fraternities) and sports, will get more than the average joe, just like in High School.

Lastly to the poster above me: I will say it like this and you be the judge. Police (I mean campus police) in general turn a blind eye when it comes to drinking (I mean let's face it... only seniors in college are twenty-one... and probably do the least amount of drinking) and I have been to plenty of fraternity parties (I am sure Crazykid and Oxide could vouch for this) that have had the beer and liquor flowing everywhere. However, get rowdy and disorderly... and it can be lights out. Also important is this... campus police may turn a blind eye... but regular cops will not.

alright. Southpark had this good line "There is time for drugs kids, that is college". I cant agree more. I suddenly notice how much influence drugs have on our society. Hell, weed, shrooms, coke. Seen that **** where i didnt expect to....

Here is a tip- dont want to smoke weed? Dont. I personally hate the smell/taste. It makes me want to puke, but i did get high for a week once, then i said "fvck this sh1t" and quit it. havent done it in 5 months.

Drinking- you can drink all you want in your apartment, who is going to care? They do in dorms, but if you are smart (hide it) then who cares. MAke sure your roommate is cool with it, i know one kid who ratted out his roommate, and cops made him pour out 48 cans of beer out....

Cops will probably be very strict and give tickets out right and left the first 2 weeks of school, to scare you. be careful. Remember, you dont have to drink to have a lot of fun. Hell, espeically when it comes to girls, dont drink and then wake up next morning saying "oh crap, i didnt do it with this Ugly chick, did i?"

Now when people yell "cops" at the parties, we all just walk out... remember= WALK STRAIGHT. i once fell down in front of dorm director while walking by him. Captain morgan aided me there.. i got lucky.

next?

edit... oh ****, can someone please fill them on this "citizen's arrest" i had that bs pulled on me once.. ill write but i m too hungry now.

small university campus
That probably depends on the college. Where Im going the campus is wireless and everyone is supposed to use laptops as much as possible so they give em out free to everyone.

Then again at a school I visited they didnt give a damn about computers. Some students didn't even own one.

So it all starts at orientation huh? Cant wait; I just registered.

Oxide,
Who tried to put you under citizens arrest? Campus rent a cops/ RAs or just some student. If its a student Id tell em to **** off. Campus police however are permitted to act as agents for whoever holds the actual deed to the land the campus sits on. This means they can toss your ass out of places. BUT (this is a big but) the state you are in may allow trained rent a cops to be Special Police Officers which means they may actually have real arrest authority on campus. I know in Maryland this is allowed and certain mall secuity guards can actually arrest you and the charges will stick. Hope that helps.

here lapotops are pure bs. if u wanna go to school of buisness, they FORCE you to spend 1800$ on their comps. it is a 1.7 pent 4 or some **** like that, and they say YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS ONE, it has PROGRAMS YOU NEED (word, and excel..oh boy! )

so fvck that, buy a laptop if u need one, otherwise desktop is fine.

we got busted by 2 campus secuirity guys, who put us under citizen arrest, and said we have to sit on the curb till cops come. If we run they will mase us. the only reason we stayed was because of 2 chicks who were with us, they coudnt run for sh1t.

some fvck tells you that you are under citizen arrest, you tell them back "well, fvcker, you are under citizens arrest too, watch me run.."

I personally use a laptop, but it's either laptop or desktop. Choose which ever one you feel comfortable with.

BigBrent: Maryland? You from around there? I am and I couldn't wait to get out. Going to be back for the summer though. If you are taking some classes at HCC during the summer, hit me up.
