Actually, I myself live walking distance close to De Wallen, but on the other side of Nieuwmarkt in the more quiet residential area, but I have friends who live near Oude Kerk, in the middle of the Red Light District.
There are not too many guys walking around De Wallen with a shoulder cat, so apart from the tourists, most people know that I'm a local and the girls like to talk but they know better than to proposition me. I treat them like regular women as long as they don't treat me like a customer.

You are looking at this the wrong way. The more expensive she is, it means the less traffic she is getting, and doesn't feel like any guy of the street has been with her. If she charges everyone the same way, then she might be just seeing one or two clients a day rather than a swarm of clients that have run a train on her, punctuated by $$$ and next in line, where you'll feel sick you dealt with her when you are client #15 that day with a lower price. It's better to spend a bit more on a great experience then feel sick with yourself afterwards.

If you know De Wallen, you know that the 'windows' don't all have the same rent for the prostitutes. The rent fluctuates with the location and the visibility of the 'window'. So the 'overweight minority women' are renting the cheaper rooms.
Also, there are different areas with different girls. Slavic blondes on one street, Asian on another, South American yet another area...
And of course, the really attractive prostitutes don't rent a window. The windows are just one step up from street-walking. The brothels have a 'higher class' of prostitutes.
