Hey guys I know I ask some dumb and noob questions but I just cant stay away from Health&Fitness lol.

I have looked through the archive and cant find what I am looking for or haven't gotten to it yet so bare with me ok thanks guys.

1. I am trying to lose weight WHILE I start to gain muscle, I'm not trying to get super bulky but have lean muscle at least. I was wondering what I can do to lower my body fat, I take Fish Oil and Green Tea capsules , and have started to eat healthier and not eat anything after 7 (Except a yogurt IF I am hungry). Is there anything else I can do to lose weight faster or is a gradual progression? I HAVE lost close to 15 pounds already but would like to lose more, I as well do cardio on my days off of working out so its
Monday:Workout
Tues:Cardio
Wed:Workout
Thur:Cardio
Frida:Workout
Saturday:Cardio
Sun:Rest
2. I take protein b4 I workout and that's it, should I take protein more often like b4 and after I work out or am I doing the right thing and should I take it every day or just on workout days?

Thanks guys.

Post your workout plan for us.

You need lots of protein, most importantly after you workout, how else are you muscles gonna grow?

i beginning to think that the archives currently overestimate the impact of fish oil and green tea on losing bodyfat. perhaps a new thread is in order summarizing the advice I've been giving on this lately.

you need a calorie deficit, and you need an accurate log of what you're eating each and every day at meals and in between. if you've lost 15 pounds and gotten stronger, you're on the right track, but you haven't said over how long a period.

the best thing you're doing is a food cut-off. most calorie deficits are sabotaged after dinnertime, usually the dieter is trying to maintain too low a calorie count early in the day and the body is rebelling, big time. if that's working for you, keep it up.

it's hard to know if you've been losing fat quickly or slowly w/o any reference to time frame, but a reasonable weekly goal is 1-2 pounds of body fat. BUT body weight is a terrible measure of progress, esp. if you're also gaining strength through lifting. better measures include tape measure around the waist and mirror/self-photographs, but these show results only over weeks or months. a scale can be moderately useful, but make sure you always weigh yourself at the same time of day, at the same appx. hydration level and with as little clothing on as possible.

but if your body looks better in the mirror & your strength is going up consistently, you're probably losing fat faster than the scale indicates. the tape measure & mirror keep you better motivated over the long haul.

HEHE I didnt know that but I saw your post in "Losing bodyfat," and got confused when you started saying what to measure and stuff like that so my eyes glazed over lol.

When I work out before I do I eat at least a bowl of cereal,2 pills of green tea and then my scoops of whey then I work out, I dont know if that's enough or not but after workout I usually eat again and then at around 5:30 6:30 I eat dinner, 1 more green tea pill and 2 fish oil pills(I take my fish oil at night...dont knwo if that's bad or good) and then cut off unless like I stated earlier a yogurt. I am going to start to take 1 shake b4 workout and then one after since handy has given me that advice .....but since I drink the protien AFTER I workout ...should I eat again or should that tide me over till dinner?

I dont know if the shake is suppose to be your meal or not...or if you are suppose to eat again, I have lost pounds and seeing a difference so that's a good thing. I think I lost the 15 pounds in like .....maybe a month or two I think I dont really keep track I just check every once in a while. I will be really happy once I pass the 200 mark..I am sad to say that I have lots of body fat :( the BMI says 28.4 ( I had really bad eating habits) but I dont look fat and do look muscular so I dont knwo what's going on there.

My workout varies, I mean like I stated earlier in earlier posts I only have a benchpress and now 30pound dumbells. I usually just read peoples journals and read what they do and then google the workout and fit that in there, I think I do lots of chest exercises though and other exercises here and there.

ANy help would be appreciated...so I can get the most out of my workout and weight loss.

Post your stats: age, ht. wt., how long u've been training for, goals, etc...

I'd definitely increase your protein intake and go for a calorie deficit. I'm not a big believer in BMI, as I think it over-estimates fat in active people. Go based on your waist size, body fat%, and what the mirror says.

DIET IS EVERYTHING.

Its a long road, but well worth it...

ok, you're losing weight at a good clip, about 2 pounds per week. but it will slow down if you're not willing to count calories and figure out how many you should be eating to continue losing (about 500-1000 below maintenance, but never below about 1500).

fugly's right about everything, esp. the BMI. it's useless for people with any significant lean muscle mass. i have a friend with a BMI over 30 and he's built like a minor Greek god. pay more attention to hip:waist ratio and other measures.

Hang on, can I just tell you - there's only one way that I've EVER been able to lose weight quickly and healthily without freakin' starving myself or taking pills...

Forget LOW FAT, LOW CAL, LOW CARB - none of this crap works because you're basically starving yourself - then besides making your life miserable, you don't even lose weight!! Your body is too smart and it just re-calibrates your metabolism to match your new caloric intake...

The only thing that has worked for me is "Calorie Shifting" - It works amazingly and just makes so much sense. My friends are getting annoyed with me saying I never shut up about it... that I sound like Tom Cruise, lol - but it's literally changing my life!! I eat a ton and still lose weight, so obviously I'm gonna be proud of it and tell people, yaknow?

Anyway, you can check out the whole theory at http://www.consumerfilter.org/products/weight_loss

btw, Worst NAME EVER - "fat loss 4 idiots" - it's like: "hey thanks!!" wtf?? ...marketed by guys obviously ;)
post here and let me know if you love it - we can track progress together... good luck - you can do it!!!
