Hey guys I dont understand this.
I play football for my school and is known for being real good at it..
The thing is that I am one of the lowest on the charts for benching..
I can barely hit 220(im 16)
Though i am the most agressive and one of the MOSt feared on the team.
I just dont understand why I can barely lift 200 and going against one of my team mates that is 6'2 benching 315 and control him like its nothing..(im outside linebacker)
Is it just that my body isnt grown for benching? Weak chest?
Please give me solutions or guesses of what my problem is,Thanks.

bench is overrated in all aspects, most guys spend too much time working it up and as you point out yourself, it's not hurting your ability to do what you want in football.

The bench press is an incredibly overrated exercise. I'll never understand the obsession with it. My school gym has 8 bench presses and only 2 half-squat racks

Football is lower body dominate. Chest will help you block or get through a block but it mostly is going to depend on hips, legs, leverage, and technique. Oh, and sheer will power to beat your man. When i played hockey i beat a lot of much larger guys because i have more of a junkyard dog mentality while they often were a bit fruity and were scared to use their size advantage... or were just plain lazy.

Did you know that NFL linebackers (LINEBACKERS) have on average a higher vertical jump than NBA players? - all those squats and power movements
