Ever wonder why basketball players always hit the big shots at the end of games with all the presure? Or wonder how some people can curl up into little balls with there bodies? We'll it's all a part of visualation. I know when I shoot in basketball I visualize the ball going in the net and it usualy does. So last night I figured hey why not visualize some DJ techniques and some conversations with girls. So ya that's what I did. I went too bed and visualized it all night, got up today and felt great. I went to town and I visualized myself talking to some girls out there then went and tried it, It went great I ended up with 2 number. So now the girl ive been having trouble with I'm gonna visualize a conversation with her before I go talk to her and go do it. I found out that visualization is a key factor on how DJ's become who they are.

It works for me too.

There's one important factor that must be mentioned. You can't visualize something never experienced. It's a feedback mechanism. Experience -> visualization -> repeat

Alright that's a good point to but say if some people are to wimpish or are "newbies" and haven't experienced it before how are they going to visualize it. My advice is take an experince from a friend or movie.

doctorsexercise shortcut for seniors exercise...
I searched google for a certain study but it's nowhere to be found.
=-=-=-=-=-

Actual studies have shown that visualizing is a tool that every good player uses. Even in injury, for over 6 months. Players were asked whether they used visualization techniques. I think a 20 group study was done, half used the techniques, half did not.

At the end of their hospital stay the players who visualized the technique played at over 70% of their oldskill level, and regained their old average in less than a month. The players who failed to do the exercise scored at around 40% of their old average, and took upwards of three months to regain their old glory.

The study hinted at positive versus negative confidence as a mediating factor in their recovery. The visualization was something to keep them from forgetting their game.

The problem is... without going through the drills, you are visualizing the wrong technique.

Like shooting for a 'swish' and shooting an 'airball' instead.

The city that sleeps. Sometimes.
visualization is indeed very powerful. If you look at visualization techniques from the NLP perspectives, they are perhaps the best parts of the whole NLP body of knowledge.

But yeah, it works in meditation, assisting future performance, etc.

For example, if you are worried about a presentation or a speech, visualize yourself performing flawlessly, see it through, maybe start by watching it as an outsider and see how awesome you are, and then step into your own body and make it part of you. Sounds weird? But it works pretty well.

I did all sorts of little experiments like that and it works every time. Little sleep and worried about getting up? Before you go to sleep, visualize yourself waking up on time, refreshed, happy, etc; and your body will internalize it and it will happen.

A good book on this is "NLP: The New Technology of Achievement". Its all about self-improvement from the NLP perspective - some of the stuff that Tony Robbins touches on, but much more useful and in-depth.

I'm going to check amazon for that book:) Hopefully I get it for half price used:D I wonder if there are other places that would sell the book cheaper, but still have a form of security in their system...

Thanks for the internalization thing too... I rarely get enough sleep, like one day a month do I ever get exactly 8 hours of sleep two days in a row. I'm a sprodaic person, so thanks for the advice, and the knowledge... I always wondered how I could wake up and be out the door in like 30 seconds. I have an anchor in my mind to spring up and get ready at the sound of a car honking:p

Why do good bball players hit clutch shots... because they practice. They don't just sit there and visualize.

Same goes for conversations. Practice and you will get better. Read a newspaper out loud, practice speaking, freestyle rap, do some breathing exercises.. it'll all make your convo flow smoothly.

i visualize killing people -vividly might i add when i am really really angry, but that dosen't nessessarily make me a homicidal killer now does it? ..damn, actually psychosis begins very early in childhood and develops first through fantasies..should i be worried? NO , i am sure everyone has thought about ringing someones neck at one time or another :D

Although there is some truth to visualizing, I'll tell you the problem. You can't anticipate what the girl will do. When you visualize a basketball shot, it's very concrete. You basically know where the basket is and you just think of it.

If I visualize a good conversation with a girl, and she doesn't respond the way I thought, or I can't come up with something witty, then that visualization actually makes it worse.

the thing about visualizations is that it creates an expectancy for things to go a certain way, like positive thinking- you expect the best and you get it. thats the way i see it, plus the mind automaticly gravitates towards what you think about, so naturally you see success-thats what you eventually get.. in spite of my negative mood swings and homicidal fantasies- i am a positive thinker:D
