Being a Don Juan and living the DJ lifestyle can be quite fun but at the same time we also have to remain aware that protection and health consciousness are extremely important when it comes to sexual intercourse. The issue of HIV/AIDS is a topic that I have always been very concerned about, and I would be grateful to hear your thoughts on the issue of condoms if we can have some man to man talk here.

So what do you guys really think? Do you all really believe that as long as a man kept wearing condoms he can be assured of safely being protected from contracting the HIV/AIDS virus even if he had intercourse for instance with let's say 6-10 different women? I've always had this belief that whether we use condoms or not, the more multiple sexual partners we have, the greater we are at risk of getting the HIV/AIDS virus compared to someone who's been abstaining (which is very hard to keep doing) or who's been sticking to just one sexual partner. And as you all know, it's not all the time that a man gets a chance to ask a woman to do an HIV test. For instance if you met a woman and had a one-night stand with her, there would be no time to think about trying to get her tested.

When would the situation arise in which you would ask ANY woman to do a HIV test?

Wear a condom and your chance of getting AIDS is for all intents and purposes zero. I think the chance that you actually contract AIDS, even during sex with someone infected, is less than 20%.

Re:

@Cuzza: I've been working at a temporary job in a Central African nation with a very high HIV/AIDS rate here for the past five years. To play it safe, men and women who care about their health ask their partners to get tested for HIV/AIDS before consenting to the act of sexual intercourse. Having spent much of my teenage to adult life in the US, I can't fool around in such a red zone. That's why I required the two women I've so far had intercourse with out here to get tested. And though both their results were negative, I of course still wore a condom.

If you're doing blood tests, you might as well throw in one for hepatitis, too. Amateur fighters are often subject to regulations that require blood tests, hep c and hiv are the two things they test for.

HIV is next to impossible to transmit via vaginal sex with a condom. The condom would have to break, and for you as a man to get it, you would need to have an open sore present, like a cut or a herpes blister, and be very unlucky. That 20% transmission rate sounds right for married couples when one is negative and the other hiv+ and they never use a condom. There have been several studies done on such couples.

Re:

@Bible Belt: I hear you, bro. If you don't mind me asking, since I tend to have a preference for women with big butts and like to take them from behind (in the ass), do you think it's riskier to catch HIV/AIDS from anal sex with a woman (with a condom on) than with vaginal sex? Either way, I've so far always ensured to get them tested. And regarding hepatitis, I did get vaccinated for that last year. I think the vaccine is effective for 10 years.

This thread is crazy, it doesn't matter where you have sex Frank, if you're using a condom, which are 99.9% effective depending on the brand, then there is a 0.1% chance that the condom breaks. The chances of transmitting HIV via intercourse is at most around 20% (based on prior posts). So that means on any given sexual encounter, you have a (0.001 * 0.2) * 100 = 0.02% chance that you get HIV during intercourse with a condom. That's 2 HUNDREDTHS of a percent. That means if you had intercourse with a woman who was HIV positive, and you used a condom, statistically speaking you would get infected ONCE every 5,000 times you had intercourse (statistically speaking).

If that doesn't clear your concerns, then I don't know what will.

EDIT: This is all while KNOWING your partner has HIV / AIDs, if you throw in the percentage that a random person even has HIV, the odds decrease even further.

Hate to say it, but I went through college wearing a condom maybe twice. And I probably had sex with 20-25 girls.

The results? I got the clap once or twice. I had some weird bacterial thing for a few days. No herp. No HIV.

And I was a total IDIOT for doing it. I look back on it now and it gives me incentive to wrap up every time because I feel as if god gave me 9 lives.

I wouldn't really be worried about contracting diseases if you wrap it up. Sure there is a small chance, but if you really think about it there's probably a far better chance of your life being altered from something else.

To be honest, I'm more worried about getting a woman pregnant than getting an STD.

Well, technically this is correct but the "less than 20%" really isn't close at all. According to Wikipedia, the chances of a male contracting HIV from unprotected sex is 0.01–0.38%. Meaning at most about 3 or 4 out of a thousand. The only chance this would happen is if she is actively bleeding in addition to you having a cut or opening on your penis.

So yes, the condom would have to break + active cut and blood on both of you, AND she would have to have HIV in the first place.

Multiply these odds together...

Condom break
= ~2/100
Contracting HIV with unprotected sex from HIV positive person
= ~3/1000
Person having HIV in the first place
= ~6/1000

36/100,000,000 or 1 in 2,777,777...using very conservative estimates for all of the above. Probably closer to 1 in 5 million chance assuming proper condom use and not banging a street hooker/drug addict etc. This also assums vaginal sex only and not anal, but even then the odds for the guy don't change much anyway.

So ya, I would be more worried about pregnancy and the other myriad of STD's that you could catch....but I wouldn't be that concerned about HIV to be honest.
