Daughter and her hub have got flights to NY from the UK, hotel rates seem astronomical, ive been and I know these are inflated, looking obviously for hotels in manhatten.
Whats the best way to approach this from outside the US? Any tips?

If you are not able to spend at least $600 a night you will NOT be able to find a decent hotel at this time in a nice part of Manhattan. A few years ago the prices went down, but not now. It is all corporate. A scam, but that is America.

This is true. But $600 is actually not that much in UK dollars. Even in america this is very cheap price. Come stay at my midtown hotel only $650 a night and I give you free breakfast and bar of soap. It overlooks famous shiskabob vendor.

Go to this site. There are hundreds of hotel deals. In all locations...upper East and West side, Midtown, Financial district... Ect.

Just a quick search I found many prices in the $175-$250 per night price range.

These were not dumps. These were big name hotels.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Quit scamming. Seriously, nobody cares about some lame site. You WILL NOT FIND a decent hotel for under $600 in Manhattan right now. End of discussion. Go make a billion off of penny stocks.

Try looking in Jersey City... it's a short train ride Manhattan (like 5 minutes) and you will find a drastic difference in hotel prices.
Or Newark, but who wants to stay in those places? That is the issue. 99% of visitors want a hotel in a decent part of Manhattan. Even though you might land in Newark do you really want to spend your time on public transportation to the city? Time is precious for most.
