OK, let me just go ahead and put this disclaimer on here: This is a rant. I may possibly say offensive things. And, if you're not an American, this likely won't apply to you, although I'm sure you'll find it amusing.
Tell me why I should cater all the "American soldiers" coming home from Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.? Or any other deployment location? Tell me why military service people get discounts on every single thing imaginable? These guys get paid big bucks (likely more than they would in the civilian workforce), get housing allowances, get taken care of everywhere......TO DO THEIR JOB. THEY VOLUNTEER FOR THIS TO BETTER THEMSELVES. THERE HASN'T BEEN A MILITARY DRAFT SINCE VIETNAM.
But for some reason, the troops returning from Vietnam were the ones being spit on because of things they had NOTHING to do with.
Look I'm as patriotic as they come. I love the U.S. and know everything that had to be sacrificed to make the dream a reality. I would have felt much different in WW2, I likely would have been fighting as well. But the military nowadays IS NOT MANDATORY. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. Most people only go in for the benefits, then cry when they have to get deployed? WHAT THE FVCK.
Sorry, but I'm just tired of the whole chirade. I do not know if I've made my point very clearly or not, but I'd be happy to discuss further. Know this: I am very appreciative of what people do for each other, servicemen included. Combat wounded deserve special treatment. But let's cut the fvcking sh1t....I know many many many people who have been deployed and it's like a temporary vacation. So let's not act like these guys are making the ultimate sacrifice because of some loyalty to all of us......they are getting paid, and handsomely.
Remember, it's not the praising of our military that I'm talking about, it's the sense of entitlement and false "hero" and "the real celebrities" mantra that we get from guys who are just making a living. Most of these guys live pretty darn good lives I must add.......
