I just signed up on jujitsu and thai boxing class. Both of these instructors are top UFC fighters. But the problem is that I'm not sure whether or not that means they are good teachers. The classes cost the total of $95 a month.

Now I don't have a money problem, but I have college. Jujitsu is on mon., tues., wed., friday, and sat., for 1 hour each. And thai boxing is on mon-wed, for 1 hour each except wednesday which is 2 hours.

Now problem is that is it worth it? Is it a effective self-defense? Am I wasting valuable time since i'm a undergraduate college student?

Ever since I was little even now, I get made fun of. In high school I get humiliated by bullys. 7th and 8th I get beat up. So today, I'm very insecure and lonely. I was hoping some of these self-defense classes will help me out, including going to church every Sunday (I just become a Christian)?

So is it worth learning these self-defense by UFC fighters?

Actually, a $100 a month is basically what a person would pay to learn two styles of martial arts. Truth is that you'd only need to learn one or the other since there are not going to be a lot of guys that are bullies and know 2 styles of fighting. Muay thai would be good enough by itself since more than likely a person will throw a punch than grapple.
Also, check to see if your college offers anything. Karate would be good back up in case you can't find a muay thai school since they are similar; the only thing to watch for in a karate dojo is if they like to spar with a lot of pads on since most of the students will not really practice defense much or be used to striking effectively.

hi rookie...

i can tell you that you have chosen two of the most effective arts for defending yourself...

and they both fit together extremely well (thaiboxing for anything standing and jujitsu for the groundwork)...

but the most important question is not the effectiveness of the art itself, but the quality of the fighter....

are you a fighter (mindset)??? i guess not, as you said, you were bullied and so on...

then you have to become a fighter, but don`t expect it to be an easy way or a short one (you need over a year to master the basic techniques)....

you only get out of the art what you put in in effort...

which means don`t expect to learn how to fight without having to fight
(this means hard sparring, alot of drills with pads and so on...) expect to get hit, and expect to get hurt, there is no way to become a good fighter without it...

you will have to put in alot of blood, sweat and tears but it is possible and in my opinion worth it...

so all the best to you,
train hard,

joe

if your trying to get skills to defend yourself right now Thai Boxing and Ju Jitsu is going to be a waste of time for you its going to take a good year at least before you gain the skills to actually able to use what you learn.id suggest getting a good boxing coach, with proper training you good be delivering KO's in no time

Actually I would Take BJJ over muy thai or thai boxing anyday..

simply because 90% fights end up on the ground within the first 10 seconds.

Fight dirty, Rake eyes, break fingers, fishhooks, low blows. You want to remove your opponents taste for battle before he knows he's in a fight.

And I know hardly anything about martial arts except the GFT I studied in The army.

They sure don't know anything my previous senseii nor sifu have taught me about MA's. They don't even follow lifestyles, they follow the ****y/kickyoass style that leads to non-conformity.

Dude learn a martial art, and use it only as self defense, practice as you must, but use it wisely friend... I've seen some serious damage done with simple palms

edited to say: halfaddict u are an ass, start fighting like that in front of another person and your toast, might work in a two or three screwed in the head friend way... but out in the real world... somebody sees you actively klicking/scratching/biting whatever you will be hunted

Phoenix and djjoe know their ****.

1. Muay thai and Brazilian JJ (BJJ) are the two best fighting sports. I competed in both for years.

2. Every fight does NOT end up on the ground. I hate when everyone says this just because the announcers on the UFC always say this. If you are an effective striker, you can KO someone before they take you down. OR you wait for the clown to try and take you down with his clumsy double-leg and you clinch him around the back of his head and time a nice knee to the jaw--KO!

Anyway, stick with muay thai and BJJ and you will be happy that you did. It works in the ring and in the street. Not many others do.
