I'm referring to overdressing in general, many guys here advocate to "dress to impress" or be the better dressed guy in a certain place.

I'm totally against it after paying attention to those who do it and the effect they get for many reasons.

First reason it seems they are trying to hard or trying to compensate for other lacks, remember a cool dress wont hyde your skinny arms or fat belly.

Second even if its not your case you will be put in the same group of the guys who did it for the prevous reason.

Third, in order to have good vibes between a guy and a girl they both have to be relaxed, a very elegant dress can make to them the same effect of a grumpy attitute of a girl to us.

Forth, you flash in the place that means that if you fail to pick up a girl and other girls see you they will remember about you, in other cases if you are lucky enough that wont happen and you will have a fresh start again.

Feel free to add your opinion or elaborate if you disagree.

I agree.

For me, I avoid overdressing by pairing one nice designer item with a plain looking/simple thread.

For example, I'll wear my faded designer jeans, but contrast it with a plain colored fitted t-shirt from old navy. This way I'm trendin out with my jeans but not overdoing it wearing some douchey looking button down or affliction t-shirt. If I do the button down route, I'll compliment it with a dark blue pair of boot-cut jeans and dress shoes.

The nicest threads won't hide your beer gut or skinny arms. Clothes should complement the man. Not the other way around.

you're overthinking it.

All you need is a good fit. If the fit complements and accentuates your frame, you win. It doesn't matter how overdressed or underdressed you are, but this does have limits. Remember the Loudest one in the room is the Weakest one in the room.

my wardrobe is about 2x bigger than my wife's. love clothes. and i love to dress up.

women like a man who can put an outfit together. you can put your head in the sand if you wish but it won't change this fact. if you aren't getting positive vibes it's becuase your clothes are wearing you and you aren't wearing your clothes.

the problem, the real problem is, the people who try to dress to impress don't have a clue as to how to dress. just because you are wearing something expensive doesn't mean it's nice or doesn't meay ou are wearing it right, doesn't mean it fits, etc. wearing a suit doesn't do **** for you if the jacket sleeves are covering your watch and swallowing you up or your your shirt is too small, etc.

and as the other guy stated, doesn't matter what you wear if you are 5'10 230 pounds you still are fat. new clothes aren't going to change that fact.

The type of women I like, or liked when I was single can spot a well dressed man from a mile away.

take pride in the way you look and the way you dress yourself. Iron your clothes, wash them, make sure they aren't ragity, it isn't even about the woman just so you can have some damn pride in the way you look, there is a certain way a DJ carries himself.

in the summer time my signature outfit are polo shorts and spurrys with a polo shirt, or a light summer suit. when it's colder outside I'm a slacks / suit type guy. it doesn't get cold enough in cali for me to really break out a trench coat or anything but if were i would.

I don't even wear blue jeans around the house. I haven't put on a pair of true blue jeans in damn near half a decade.

also, an added benefit to being the guy o can dress is women like for you to come along and watch them try out skirs and binkini's and ****. can't tell you how many times i've been dragged to the mall to "help me try on some clothes" by a plate i was spinning.

I agree with backbreaker on this......(good post BTW)
I know a woman from Hawaii..........If you've ever been there, you know that 99.9 % of the people (locals and tourists) are wearing short sleeve shirts and shorts....It's total casual city. So this woman has developed a fetish for guys in suits because she never saw enough of this in the islands......

She practically rapes me when I show up dressed nicely (which I like doing anyway)

What I'm getting at is that a woman can develop a clothes fetish for men the same way that guys like high heels and tight jeans on chicks....

A man should have a good wardrobe for business, and the women love when you put on the real clothes. Things like a bow tie, cuff links, studs, watches, matching belts and shoes go a long way. When you are taking a fine lady downtown to a fancy restaurant or hotel that is the time. Plus, women love a reason to dress up.

I overdress but I just like to stunt. That's my personality I always did it for me not for the girls. They just happened to like it so it was a win-win for me.

Yes, and it's interesting how Politically Correct types twist this simple maxim into its opposite. The weakest ones are those who throw a temper tantrum in the store, and whose mothers therefore won't buy or wash clothes for them anymore. So they wear the same pair of blue jeans and corporation T-shirt every day. They aren't farmers or construction workers or 1950s prisoners. But they insist on showing up in a bad boy costume straight from pickup truck commercials.

The most common sight in a restaurant is a woman who dressed to go out, and a man who put on whatever was on the floor in front of his bed.

A T-shirt is underwear. Unless you think you're Madonna and you want to wear your bra on the outside, avoid such silly, affected shows of catwalk macho.

First I forgot to add two factors, age and location that can change the result.
If you're 25 no matter what you say guys I still think the overdressing is a mistake, place as well Im european so maybe there are different tastes here than in the states.

The guy is actually saying he doesnt give a fk about her and is not gonna chance to make her happy or to fit in a certain environment.
The guy is most likely to get her as long as he doesnt screw up, any afc instead would waste time and money to "dress to impress" (a dj COULD do the same but seriously which cathegory is larger?)
This guy has the right attitute.

That is one single case of one single woman in a single particular place, and the explanation coming from it are limited for that case, it doesnt prove or disprove anything in regard of overdressing.

The only place I hear guys talk about suits is on PUA boards. I've never actually seen it outside of weddings. Even in the fanciest restaurants with the few millionaires I've actually socialized with slacks and buttondowns are the rule. Considering my usual fun venues, I'd feel fvcking weird walking around in an uncomfortable suit while everyone else is relaxing is cargo shorts and a tshirt.

That said, as a below-average looking dude, I can tell you that suits can turn even the ugliest duckling into a handsome bird of prey. Perhaps it's NOT a coincidence that 90% of my one night stands happened after weddings...the only time I wear a suit.

I wore a suit last night just to go downtown for a drink. Get comfortable in good clothes (and with hot women). Think James Bond.

Go to Jos. A Bank or Men's Wearhouse and ask a (hopefully hot female) sales staff to help you. Make sure to buy during sales or ask for a deal. I bought an $800 blazer and they threw in 2 dress shirts ($90 each) and 2 dress pants, fitted ($150 each) for free. A good outfit will cost $500 to $1500, and that's for a regular guy. No wonder women like nice clothes.

Basic Professional Men's Wardrobe

Suit: $650 (Have 3 - Blue, Blue Pinstripe and Grey).
Blazer: $500 (Have 2 - Navy blue and Beige).
Slacks: $150 (Have 4 colors).
Fitted shirt: $90 (Have 10 including 2 semiformal (holes for cuff links) and 2 formal (holes for cuff links and studs)).
Belt: $75 (Have 4 - black and brown with gold and silver buckles)).
Watch: $200 (Have 4 - black, brown, gold and silver).
Shoes: $125 (Have 3 - 2 black and 1 brown, then match leather - black or brown - to belt and watch band.
Cuff links: $75 (Have 2 sets - gold and silver, then match metal color - silver or gold - to belt buckle and watch crown).
Studs (part of Cuff link set).
Tie: $75 (Have 10 including 2 bow ties. Match them to your eyes. Let women help pick them out for you - ask random women if you have to (a good way to meet them)).
--------------------------
$7000 wardrobe - $1300 in one outfit.

You might throw in a hat also, which I don't know much about.

as a kid i used to wear beige shorts and jean shorts.

now i just wear jean pants. i'ts the only thing i have. they look good on me so.

for me. i really depends. i mean when i go out. i ALWAYS HAVE a button shirt on. just cos A) i pick up some ben sherman ones on the cheap. they look good and they are made well. 2) clubs in Perth are a stickler for dress standards.

where i have my problem is my everyday dress. i have a HOLE BUNCH of graphic nedty tees witch really suck. i need to get some polos. i also just picked up some cool shirts with. "my other ride is your girlfriend" and stuff liek that on them. they fit me well so. plus they mostly have sexual things on them as aposed to sonic the hedgehog. i also got some killer hoodies too.

I have a suit that I wear to funerals. It fits me perfectly. Whenever someone I know dies I usually I end up wearing it all day. And I have to say, having a well fitted suit is an interesting experience. People were moving out of my way as I walked, people were lower their voices when I would use my cell phone, and the only one I'm sure you guys care about is: a bunch of really cute girls started hitting on me. Now when they heard my accent* I lost almost all of my advantage, but at least it put me at neutral rather than behind.

Now would I ever just wear a suit around? No, I can't see myself ever doing that. Maybe if I become a professor and have the need to be overly formal to my lectures, but other than in an academic setting I can't really see myself wearing one. It just doesn't feel natural. I grew up working class, so the boots, jeans, t-shirt uniform is probably what I'll stick to.

*I have a southern accent, and in a metropolitan area that means everyone not from the actual south thinks you're a redneck

What a dumbass comment. This isn't 1953.

I'll agree with you on this, though, on the basis that an undershirt is underwear and shouldn't be sticking out; I can't stand when people wear polos or button ups and their underwear's sticking out the top because they went with a crew neck instead of v-neck or deeper cut. That **** looks hideous.

I agree with this, to an extent. Suits are for higher level business types for the most part, and special occasions. However, even though it's uncommon nowadays, if I'm going to a fancy restaurant or the symphony or something I'm gonna wear a suit.

A man should dress how he feels.

For me, I feel like a million dollars. That's why I got my Ralph Lauren shirt (collared or t-shirt depending on how I feel) and my Levi jeans or Ralph Lauren slacks. Colorful shorts in the summer. Sperry's and Stacy Adams on the feet.

See if you guys like hood-rats and jump-offs wear baggy pants and extra long t-shirts. Me, on the other hand, likes females who are fashion savvy.
