I would love to have earrings again but I feel its one of those things that will make too many people take you less seriously, mostly men in a masculine environment unless you are a celeb of some kind. Too bad really, looks great on some.

I remember my grandma thinking men wearing earrings was ridiculous.

She's used to WW2 era men. So I could see where she's coming from.

How did we go from "The Greatest Generation" to a bunch of Pokemon players?

Back in the day, heels were made for men....

Anyways I hate people and their old mentality, men can do what ever they want and still be a man, the only thing that makes a man gay is being gay with gay dudes
So wear high heels if you want, doesn't change my life any.

Anyway, I didn't say wearing earrings made you gay, I said it was an early example of gender blending. Which is what (used to) make it appear nonconformist and anti establishment, which was part of the appeal. Sort of like Mystery wearing black nail polish. Not my thing, but different strokes and all.

There used to be a saying here that went something along the lines of "The only jewelry a man needs is a watch and some cuff links". Or something like that. Anybody here wear a ring (not a wedding ring)? Even like a skull ring or something? :)

Tribal human males were always the first gender to adorn themselves with metals, ink and other items and submit themselves to body modification as a rite of passage
Sigh. Yes, I'm aware of that. Primitive culture, pirates, and all that. I was speaking relatively, and specifically of the culture at the time when I was growing up. As I said in my initial post "Back in my day" men didn't wear earrings. Or the guys that did were trying to be nonconformist, or members of the counterculture. It was seen as gender blending, and that's why it was "shocking". Piercings (and black nail polish) became even more popular in the 70s with glam rock and the punk movement. Now days of course, no one will look twice.

Then for awhile, it was considered okay for a guy to wear ONE earring, and it had to be in his left ear. If it was in the right ear, that was a signal that you were homosexual. Then guys started to wear earrings in both their ears, and that took awhile to gain acceptance.

As I said, I don't care for it, but it doesn't change my life one way or the other.

well both of your responses are a really long winded way of saying "gayyyyyy"
Maybe, but that was largely the response from the mainstream when guys started wearing them, which was the point I was trying to get across.
It's true that I don't like them, but I can see why they might attract some female attention as a sort of peacock item/rebellious statement.

What, am I required to like them? Is that part of the PC movement, or some part of the DJ code that I'm not aware of?
