Sometimes when im at the mall, especially towards the weekend, with a girl or even by myself, i'll almost always encounter a group of thugs while walking through the mall. These guys always seem to be looking for trouble. Maybe its because they don't have anything better to do with their lives. But these guys will always go out of their way to make some smart a** comment, to try to intimidate you! I know the best thing to do is just walk away and don't say anything, but its hard at times. Mostly because you know these same guys wouldn't say a word had they been alone. If you're an alpha male, you really want to defend yourself, even though youre outnumbered. If any of you guys live in a big city, im sure you've experienced this. Any thoughts??

I once saw a documentary where a leopard wondered into baboon territory. About one hundred baboon's started waving bones and sticks at the leopard, screaming at it and trying to scare it.

The leopard just kept walking like it didn't even know they were there. It walked all the way through the baboon territory without showing the slightest bit of fear... and without being attacked.

I don't think it needs to be said that it was the leopard which looked way cool.

Be the leopard.

Look cool, but always carry a knuckleduster, just in case.

Jay Jay is right. I grew up in a crappy neighborhood. When you show you're weak, you're dead meat. It tells them right there you don't think you can defend yourself. Who knows that may be the problem. You're probably in a bad part of town if thugs are in your mall. Just go about your business and try not to be intimidated by these people.

I go to bad parts of town now, I feel just as comfortable as if I was in the best parts. People aren't going to come up to me for no reason... just don't do something stupid like roam around behind the mall in the middle of the night, and you'll be fine. What are they REALLY going to do in a mall.

Our Sierra Mist?

Sorry, unwinding after a long day working.....it's perfectly clear what you mean :)

Martial arts classes. Good for more than just self-confidence.

Also show a lot of confidence when you walk. Don't change just because they're around...they will pick up on that. Groups like that look for weaknesses and probably won't challenge someone who shows strength.

A few years ago, Me and this girl I was trying to get with were walking with my 2 friends around the neighborhood. I live in the bronx. While we were walking They were a group of guys yelling out stuff at her. I just continued walking like nevermind them. She was complaining and was like yo lets go up there and beat them up. Now in my neck of the woodz anybody could be packing a gun, so as long as they weren't following me I wasn't about to go and put my neck out on the line over some words. My 2 friends were ready to fight but i continued walking and they eventually followed.

I had another situation last year, where me and my friend walked down to a main street in the bronx to drop a girl off at the bus stop. She went up to the train station to get a metrocard. while me and my friend was there talking, a guy who looked like a grown ass man, had to be in his late 20s, came from a building that was a few feet away from us. Dude walked right up beside me, grilling me, I paid him no attention and carried on my conversation. He continued to walk past me to the end of the block then walked back staring at me. I looked at him for a few seconds, then continued my convo with my friend, he walked past me and went right back to the building. It pissed me off on the inside but I was like whatever, if he threw a punch then it would be somethin to cuss about.

I hate those poseur thug types. I have a whole soap box I could get on right now about how society has made it to where it's glorified to be a douche bag and so a lot of kids today actually aspire to be losers because it's not "cool" to actually do anything worthwhile with your life. But I won't do that.

Martial arts are definitely a good thing to know, though. I recommend Kuk Sool Won. I'm about to look into that. It's apparently a combination of a lot of different forms of martial arts. I've got a friend who has taken it for years. He knows multiple ways of killing somebody with his bare hands. He's the toughest guy I know. But he doesn't flaunt it. He's so calm and relaxed. He knows that at any given time, he's usually the toughest guy in the room, so he has nothing to prove. I know another guy who is trained in something similar. He is not allowed by law to do anything other than restrain somebody. His body is legally considered a deadly weapon. Needless to say, as with the first guy, he's very calm and laid back.

Be careful about the potential of people carrying guns, though. This world is crazy. You've got 16 year old kids running around robbing convenience stores with semi-automatics. I got chased down the freeway last year by a guy with a gun. Stand your ground, but don't be stupid about it.

There's one thing the leopard can do that this guy can't: outrun them.

Muay Thai, dude. Muay Thai. + some form of jiu jitsu for groundfighting. Solid combination.

Anyone who gets even a brownbelt in karate is considered by the law as to physically be a "deadly weapon", as in their body is. And who cares about legal status anyway, I think all of us could probably choke somebody to death if the circumstances required and permitted it. Training just gives you more tools to be deadly. But who the **** wants to be deadly?

Ultimately, it is your carriage and confidence that will keep these poseurs off your back.

Where do you live?

Are they real, or are they posing?

I've never seen anyone in a mall that I felt truly afraid of, but I've seen posers. People who obviously have NOT grown up in ghettos or bad neighborhoods. One poser wore an oversized jersey, had trousers nearly falling off his butt, a headband, and tried to look bad-ass. However, he was just making a fool out of himself. I wonder how well he'd fare if he was in a truly bad area?

It's funny cause my younger brother poses as one of these thugz and wears these ugly baggy pants and long t-shirts. However, at 15, he's pulling ass like i've never seen before, girls 2 even 3 years older then him. Unfortunately, the media has glamourized the thug persona through music and movies and girls are seemingly infatuated with it.

What I've personally observed with my brother is that he has this "I don't give a **** about anything" attitude concerning life which girls find alpha. I guess this attitude is the opposite extreme of a supplicating nice guy. These girls my brother hooks up with are extremely hot and he is on the chubby side!!

if they were real thugs they wouldn't say anything to you at all, they would grab you up and do what they had to do.

In the mall I think you are ok, I would wait till a moment when the group is a little smaller and get in their face and tell them to get live.
mauy thai is ok but I feel it is limited. Jeet kun do is where I feel comfortable. Its extremely versitile, with alot of good ground fighting techniques from jiu jitsu(brazilian), good stand up fighting techniques from western style boxing and a variety of kicks. In fighting(up close) it uses some techniques and elbow and knee strikes from mauy thai!

ps in my state you can get a permit to carry at 21...its only 19 bucks have you ever considered this option?

if you don't mess with anybody they won't mess with you.

if people are just randomly saying smart ass comments to you ,there must be something wrong with you.

what exactly do they say?

I call security if things are getting out of hand in the casinos. That's my posse. Security has my back and they have guns and body armor. Lets see how tough thugs are after their in a casino holding cell getting their knees broken by tyrone.

That was kind of my point, though. Because those guys are so deadly, they have a lot of confidence. They rarely have to prove anything. I want to be that tough not so I can do whatever, but so I can chill knowing that if something comes up I can handle it.

Not true, man. Most of these little ****s just walk around looking for trouble trying to prove they're hard.

oh... no offense but you guys must look like losers then. i know your type, sometimes when i'm with my friends they (i'm not really a mean dude) crack jokes when they see real lame lookin dudes. but i guess you cant really change what you look like, except maybe to lift weights or something.

my suggestion is to just ignore them. why try to teach them a lesson if you don't know them and you'll never have to deal with them again?
