I guess in N. Korea, sometimes you eat the dog, and sometimes the dog eats you.

North Korean Leader Fed Uncle To Starving Dogs

The Singaporean Straits Times cited a report from Wen Wei Po, a Beijing-control newspaper, that said Jang Song Thaek and five close associates were stripped and fed to 120 dogs that had not eaten for three days. The entire process, witnessed by 300 senior officials, lasted for about an hour, the report said. Fox News could not immediately verify the report.

I don't understand why someone just doesn't assassinate the guy.

^^^Could be, but what really sounds like propaganda is the reasons for their deaths.

It's propaganda. The story said it was 120 "hounds" or "hunting dogs" who were deprived of food for five days. First of all, there is nothing left to hunt in North Korea, because the starving people have killed and eaten almost everything, including almost all the dogs. There would be no point in maintaining a kennel of 100+ hunting dogs. Secondly, domesticated dogs don't just eat people because they have been without food for a few days, especially hunting hounds. Thousands of years of domesticated breeding have taken that wild aggression out of them. Dogs are not the same as wolves. But North Korea doesn't have either one, so their people don't know that.

Now that I think about it, I bet the uncle found out he was about to die of cancer or something, and the dog story was all his idea, his way of taking one for the team to help his nephew's legacy. I would guess his actual death was the opposite of the story, a quiet suicide from something pleasant like morphine or heroin.
