I love the ability to talk with family and old friends on there, but I hate the feeling of having no mystery about me.

Easy, man take all the really personal **** off your facebook. Less is more, if you are filling your facebook with your life story then it strips you of your mystery. My brother and uncle, both of whom are just the ideal don juans, have told me time and time again don't post personal **** on facebook. If you have nothing on there it gives them something to ask about, take back your mystique.

I can understand wanting to delete your Facebook if you're out of college, but it has become such a huge focal point of college that I've seen people been weirded out when somebody says they don't have Facebook. Literally everyone I know at my University has Facebook except for very anti-social people.

Facebook can also be a great way to increase your social proof if you have a lot of pictures with you and a bunch of girls, at parties, doing exciting stuff, etc.

If you're out of college then I don't see much point in it though.

So this is what you do, you ONLY have family and friends on your Facebook and DON'T add anyone who doesn't fall into that category.

Then, you don't post every ridiculous detail of your life on it.

See how easy that was?

I am so glad I graduated before any of these websites came out and became "popular". If having a Facebook is the new social standard for normalcy, then our futures are all doomed.

I'm on facebook, but I don't think I've lost any mystery about me. Occasionally friends will take pictures of me at a party and post it on there. That's about it.

Just don't post messages on there. "I'm at work!" "I'm driving home!" "I'm eating a burger!" That's how you lose mystery. This one old girlfriend of mine will write crap like "Finally! My basement is clean!" Christ...why does the world need to know that?

I use it to contact old friends and that's it. No messages. No status updates. Not a whole lot of pictures.

your doing it wrong if you feel like you have no mystery.

-Make it so no one but yourself can see tagged photos of you. Friends will only be able to see photos that you put up.
-Get rid of almost all info about yourself

My 2 cents.

I'd been on Facebook since way back when it was TheFacebook, and they'd just had about 11 schools. This was before Walls, before News Feed, before Photo albums.

Back then, literally the only thing you could do on there was show people who you were friends. Pretty useless, but it was harmless because there was nothing keeping me glued to my screen.

But, that all changed gradually, and more and more I found myself trying to "keep up" with lots of people I don't actually care about, just because I can.

If you're anything like me, you're around computers all the time. And Facebook - "simulated intimacy" - was a huge roadblock to me actually going and visiting my friends who weren't only a 15 minute drive away.

For me, personally, I just found that Facebook gave me the illusion of being in touch with people, when really I wasn't.

So, I quit around March this year and haven't looked back.

I challenge you to do it for 3 weeks. You'll be surprised how little you miss it as long as you have other more important things going on.

Plus, anyone can invite you to stuff on Facebook. Only the people who REALLY want to see you will call.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.
