There will be a Nuclear War in the next century

I was describing the movie Children of Men to my dad. He asked me what it is about and I said - 'it's about World War III, and this disease that is killing humanity, it is scary because it is done ultra realistically. The setting resembles the present'.

I don't know why he said this but my dad just sighed and said - 'there's going to be a nuclear war. For sure. Maybe not in my lifetime but there will probably be one in the next 100 years, it just seems inevitable to me the way things are developing in world politics'. This is a highly educated man talking - a doctor - someone who watches the news and reads US News and World Report all the time.

I can't help but agree with him, it's a very depressing thought. What do you think about this? It just seems like an inevitability.

I think a regional nuclear war is a very real possiblility. If Iran gets a nuclear weapon I would be very afraid if I lived in Tel Aviv. Another good candidate is a war between India and Pakistan. Also, if a terrorist orginization actually did get nukes they would have no reservations about taking out either Tel Aviv, NY or Washington D.C. There is also and outside possibility that Seoul could get nuked, but probably not likely. Another scary possibility is an accidental launch, this almost happened in 1983 in the Soviet Union. I don't think an all out nuclear war between the superpowers would happen.

A war involving biochemical weapons is far more likely to occur than a war involving nukes. Biochemical weapons are a lot cheaper than nuclear weapons which can more easily get into hands of terrorists and rogue states. Saddam was rumored to have tons of VX poison gas (remember The Rock). It doesnt take too much of that stuff to kill a lot of people.

Don't discount the possibility of Israel pre-emptively striking Iran and starting a huge middle east crisis.
