Ok, time for some fun here..."Nobody can make you feel a certain way, only you can do that." So you are telling me that when that bully in Elementary school picked on you, you decided to feel sad? When that teacher gave you that award, you decided to feel good? Nope. These things are instinct. Humans are designed to feel a certain way in certain situations, which is NOT your fault. No matter how skilled you get at something, don't you still feel nervous/anxious/excited? You can't control these. That's like blaming someone with terets (spelling?) for swearing. Bad example, I know, but you get the idea.
Being the "cause" end of the "cause and effect" process means nothing. ANYONE can be the "cause" end. Think about that for a minute.
I don't know. I disagree with you crazykid and could argue your examples.
For example:
A bully wouldn't be picking on the kid if the kid was not feeling bad when it happened. So basically, a person who wouldn't give a ****, would go unbullied.
Your award example is invalid because people have no reason but to feel good when getting an award. In the bully situation, people can not care, rather than feel bad.
Now, if everyone emotionally reacted the same way to a given situation, then that would basically mean that everyone in the world would be either an AFC or DJ, because everyone would either fear rejection, or not fear it. There wouldn't be two types.
Human instinct is more like, if you stick a fork in an outlet and get electrocuted, you wouldn't do it again to avoid it. Or to be even more simple, human instinct is eating when you're hungry. Drinking when you're thirsty. Sleeping when you're tired. ****ing when you're horny.
Emotions are not instincts. Fact is, people do have control over them. That is why at this site, it is taught taht people should let go of their FEAR OF REJECTION (an emotion), and go for it anyway. If what you said was true, then people should always fear rejection and never change.
This post became excessively long so I'll stop here. I'm sure my point was made and understood though.
