This is whats wrong with the world.

While you take your trip to ibiza recognize that because you are out to get as much money as possible for YOURSELF you are proliferating other people whom are in poverty.

How can you enjoy the pleasures of life, such that the way that you obtained those pleasures was by the deficit of other humans, putting them in a sh1tty position?

That IS the definition of profit - making a deficit for others.

Dont you care about others? Dont you care that 4000 hungry children die per hour? Sure you can live it up, but just because you dont think about others whom live in sh1tty conditions doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Fvck competition, we should all work in common interests.

Sure you can drive your Bugatti around but that sh1t ain't coming with you when you die.

Help others and be the best you can be. That is the best way to live. Greed is not.

You say this is how the world is so adapt.

I say fvck that. I would rather die trying to change a bullsh1t system that is run upon exploitation of others then submit to it.

Western civilization.. so flawed
How am i involved with people in poverty? I have nothing to do with them.

I am not Robin Hood. I am trying to make MY life better. I won't go out of MY way to make other people's existence miserable, but i won't go out of my way to make it better. If i am able to do so, while being on my path, i will. If it involves going out of my way, i won't.

The world revolves around money. Capitalism is the word.

I do not know about you, but i am not a help everyone, live happy hippie. What can i do if 4000 children die per hour? I do know it exists. What can i do to change? Too bad and so sad for them. I am not God. I can't change the flawed, corrupt government they abide by. I am sorry about their living conditions, but it is not for me to change it.

Competition is what differentiates the strong from the weak. If "fvck competition" was the slogan, the lion wouldn't be the king of the jungle. The world doesn't move like that. Everyone has their own agenda. If both of our agendas match, we can always work in common interests.

It isn't coming with me, but i would rather enjoy the life that i have to the full extent.

I strive to be the greatest. My name etched next to the greatest figures to have ever lived. I am only centered to that. I don't see where you get greed from, lol.

What is it that you are studying? You couldn't be studying anything that will make you big money with that mentality. Strive to be the 1%, not the 99.

Do you also include the drug addicts, bums and people on welfare? You KNOW those people truly deserve it, right? There's people that were born to work at McDonalds and then there are people that were born to achieve greatness. I hope you are not including the above or the people that work in McDonalds.

I agree with Colossus with a small caveat.

Follow your dreams but make sure that it can allow you to survive.

I have a story:
My name is comic_relief and I have a story for you. Back in 2006 I began my college odyssey. I decided to follow my dreams of working in politics. I became a dual major political science and philosophy major with a minor in history. After five years of "work" earning my degree, I graduated with BA's for my hard work. Later, I took an internship with a US Representative from PA and I disliked it. Therefore, I had to do some soul searching and going outside of my comfort zone to find something that truly interested me.

I then took time off during the summer after graduation to work as a landscaper for a paleontology site in Nebraska. I got interested in the work, but was told that I would need to go back to school for geology. Now I am a geology major that should have earned my degree in only 2.5 years (but I had a severe car accident). During that time, I became a professional athlete for white water rafting/kayaking and found my passion in geology. Will this be my ticket to a job that i would love? It is not guaranteed, but it opens a lot of possibilities!

So please, do not close any doors because what you think now is only perception, not fact. I went from political science to geology (a real science)!

Maybe some questions should be asked:
1.) how long have you been doing this job for?
2.) Do you have any debt such as School loans, mortgage, or really anything that needs to be paid off? Pay these off first! That job will help you quickly pay stuff off especially if it is $100K+/year. I wish i could pay off my student loans with a cash flow like that.
3.) Do you have the support system to help you out if the decision goes to ****?

I'm largely of the same mind as Colossus here, you have to look at it from a practical standpoint. Not everyone on the planet can be a movie star or a football player. If you can follow those dreams and be successful, great. But even if you love what you are doing, there are times when it's simply going to be hard work.

If you don't mind being broke and prefer the freedom in that, great. I have a lot of respect for people who live an ascetic lifestyle. But if you're a drain on society, living off of the hard work of others, then you are a parasite. In other words, if you want to eat, work. Otherwise you're a freeloader.

"In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." - Genesis 3:19

I see what you are saying.

I just find it absolutely amazing how society is built in a way where if you follow your dreams you are most likely going to end up unhappy because you wont be able to perpetuate basic needs, but conversely if you pursue a job you MAY have the opportunity to have the freedom to pursue your happiness, nonetheless you still have to toil away 45 hours a week in something that is in most cases to proliferate the self interest of those in higher position finally reaching the top, those whom run society, yet even these people arent happy. These people are perpetually looking for more and more money and more and more power, never EVER satisfied with what they have.

It is clear the problem does NOT lie in whether YOU should follow your dreams or if you should get a high paying job in order to have the "freedom" to pursue your dreams more fruitfully. The problem OBVIOUSLY lies in how society is perpetuated. Society itself doesnt give a sh1t whether I am happy or whether you Colossus is happy. it only cares about the cogs in the machine of society proliferating its purpose, which is to generate and concentrate as much goddamn money, profit and power into the hands of a very few.

The problem is how society is geared to perpetuate greed. Thus exploiting people like me and you, in which if we do pursue our dreams we better be that 1 in 100000 or else well end up homeless, in poverty, with sh1tty water, and no food, panhandling other unhappy souls for 10 cents to buy a fvcking hotdog. While the 1% buy 100 different sports cars, yachts, and houses they dont even use.

The world needs to be reformatted. At the end of the day we are apes on a ball floating through space and the fact that there is a super concentrated group of people who get EVERYTHING they want, for being greedy, envious, competitive creeps, and the other 99% of people are exploited by the rich who knowingly cast the 99%'s happiness for their own profit is completely fvcked. No?
Yeah I don't disagree with you. That's essentially how capitalism works. Multitudes of people working for a modest living who, in aggregate, make the "1%" very, very rich. I can't hate on it honestly, because that would be me blaming my station in life on someone else. Hating on "the man" because he is cleaning up from the labor of the middle and lower-class is a cop-out for inadequacy and amounts to petty socialism.

I think you have to do the best you can to work the system to your advantage. That's what the rich have done. I used time and my ability to get into a career where I am basically assured work and good income for the foreseeable future, but I don't love it. And there is no way I could have known that, so I don't regret it either.

Like I said, not everyone is lucky enough to do what they love and make a good living. Very few. This is just a fact of life you learn as you get older. That doesn't mean you have to resign to a sh!tty but well-paying job for the rest of your life, but be a pragmatist about it. I believe a man should always be thinking of how he can better his position in life, and sometimes that means doing things you don't love to do while you plan your next move.

Eyez and Ronaldo, I just want to apologize I may have come across as being a fvckin a$$hole. I realize that now. Im just very passionate about the well-being of others.

You could argue that I am being selfish because Im flaunting myself in a pious pretentious way in order to feed my ego, but it is truly in my heart want to help others. So It is coming from a more empathetic altruistic place rather then a "spiritual bragging" place.

Anyways, I don't want to form enemies on this forum rather I want to form strong bonds in order for everyone to benefit positively. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect both of your opinions.

I can see now that no matter what I say we all hold our opinions too close to ourselves and our hearts and it will only cause further dissent. Group polarization if you will.

Agree to disagree.

No doubt it is a topic that is controversial and up for debate. No answer is correct. And I don't believe even my answer is correct.
