These are slick commercial productions my man. These are networks with immense power with millions if not billions of dollars at stake. Ke$ha's not really a party girl, Taylor Swift can't actually sing, etc., what's important is that they can sell the image credibly and it all goes to Clear Channel radio, their affiliated TV advertisers, Apple iStore, and they make a huge profit off it -- this is big business.
Watch this if you want: not really about the major labels and hit machine as much as it's about creative control and monopolization but if you're interested in knowing how mass media works... it's enlightening. The big 6 are like Time-Warner, Viacom, whatever.
RIP: A Remix Manifesto
It's not really 'pussification' as much as individuality is squeezed out of the public consciousness... like you can't have Punk Rock Bingo in Vegas because it teaches people they can have fun without paying a major casino through the nose for it.
Educate yourself!
