My Canadiens are so passionate about hockey that they started a riot and burnt 16 police cars last night after winning one round in the playoffs. We didn't even win the championship (when we usually riot)

Canadians, Passion & Pride

One of the knocks on Canadians is their lack of nathionalism & pride compared to Americans. However Canadian's don't lack passion, its just in other areas.

This was a celebration after a first round playoff win. There are 4 rounds in the playoffs. Normally these "celebrations" happen only after winning the Stanley Cup. However the Montreal Canadiens have had a mediocre team since 93 when they last won the Cup and the last time there was a hockey riot in Montreal.

I'm not condoning the behaviour, its pure mob mentality and has happened in other Canadian cities. My point is this is how Canadians feel about hockey. America's pasttime might be baseball but they come no where near as passionate about baseball as Canadians are about hockey. Parents have been banned from arenas, and things have gone way overboard.

I grew up in a generation where people live, eat & breathe hockey, I'm a Canadian, its who I am, its how I grew up, its my one and only true love in life. It was my first love and it will be one that doesn't go away. For the first 18 years of my life, I probably played 4 hours of hockey ever single day, whether it was organized hockey on the ice in the winter, playing at the outdoor rink, or playing street hockey in the summer.

FYI 16 cop cars were burnt down and 16 people were arrested.

Soccer has really taken away from baseball in the US, as far as being the game that is popular for children to play. Twenty years ago, when I was a kid, baseball was the sport to play. Now every kid plays soccer.

On an unrelated note, if anyone ever sees a riot like that happening in the US, it is a felony to encourage the rioters. To simply say something like "yeah, tip that car!" constitutes the felony of "mob action."

BB, the same is true with soccer in Canada. Its the fastest growing sport and I think has just as much participation as hockey for kids. However I largely think its a money thing, hockey is one of the most expensive sports to play and poverty has increased.

However no one is passionate about soccer like they are about hockey. When I grew up, 90% of boys fantasized about playing in the NHL and winning the Stanley Cup. I wonder what all the girls fantasized about or did while we were playing hockey?

The mob that ensue the riot in Montreal are idiots as well as any other sports mob that think just because they won the big game, is an excuse to get drunk and run around like children and destroy public property.

I agree with you. However it appears it wasn't actually Habs fans starting the ruckus

From the Globe & Mail and Ottaw Sun

Police Chief Yvan Delorme said yesterday that much of the vandalism was carried out by a small group of highly organized arsonists using the cover of a postgame celebration to lash out at police.

"Those young people were organized to commit criminal acts, mischief and set fire to Montreal police cars," said Montreal police Chief Yvan Delorme.

That being said, this happens in almost every Canadian NHL city when there is victory but not usually this early.

Careful that you don't confuse passion with ignorance.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

As a Canadian, that video is pretty embarrassing..

Celebrate yeah, destroy police cars and harass cops? I don't see the connection.

Break into stores and vadalize? I don't see the connection.

I usually joke around about stuff like this, but that's pretty low-class behavior typical of the French-canadian inferiority complex.

On a different note, go Habs!:D
