Basically The Notebook is about a man who reads the story of how he and his
wife met to the wife. He does this faithfully everyday as she has some form
of memory loss hoping that she remembers him. She does at the end and they
die in each other's arms and blah blah blah. A nice story, right? Wrong. The
story takes its turn when the woman runs into this man after years of being
apart. Her mom didnt want her with him and interfered with the relationship.
She thought he didnt love her and vice versa. Anyway the only catch is that
when she runs into this guy again, she is engaged to someone else. She
cheatson /leaves the guy she was going marry and falls right into the arms
of the lover from the past and they live happily ever after.

I brought up the point of this movie being rediculous for the female lead's
lack of integrity. The response I got from this woman I was talking to was
"It was ok. It was romantic" I said so it is ok to cheat as long as you are
romantic about it? Her response was that I was hurt by some one. I told her
that woman didnt have any integrity.

If you look at Myspace, Facebook, and Friendster profiles seemingly all
women list The Notebook as a favorite. That really fires me up. It is ok to
cheat? If they made a movie about a guy who pulled this and guys said this
was their favorite movie, there would be such an outcry.

If a guy did that he would be labeled a "cheating bastard and a rotten womanizer ". THe fact that women see this story thru their "romantic" filter and therefor excuse the woman's cheating is a clear insight into the conditional moral code which guide women. It is inescapable that at some point she was sleeping with two men simultaneously - is that romantic ? No, is is slut behavior because she was engaged to one of them and screwing the other . How much is this woman's promise worth ? ZIP.

Learn to be the man of the highest value in a womans life and her chances of cheating on you become far less likely. That is what this site is about, not about changing women.

Yo Drmeathead,

I feel ya dude. The NOTEBOOK is unfortunately just ONE in a long line of morally ambiguous, chick flick movie adaptations. I haven't read the book but I'm almost 100% sure that the movie didn't create the cheating woman part out of thin air though. lol

A few other movies that follow this "Fukk the other guy" format are SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and LIAR LIAR. Both of these movies have AFC/Nice guys that get fukked over for NO other reason other than that they were in the way of the big female character's romantic interest.

So you're right. Women just LOVE this crap. That's why they have 6 different LIFETIME cable channels, OXYGEN, and WE (Women's Entertainment). They can't get enough of their indoctrination. I told a female friend of mine that I call those stations "The women in jeopardy but it's NEVER their fault" channels. lol

And yeah, I know they're just movies/TV shows or whatever. But I think it IS dangerous. It fuels many a wrong-headed notion that already exists in the mind of a woman. Soldiers, there's a reason why they call it television "PROGRAMMING".

And your last point was correct as well. Let me paint a picture for everybody so they can see it EVEN MORE clearly. Check your movie description in your tv guide and notice:

If it's a story where a girl ditches a guy so that she can trade up to get a ANOTHER guy, it's called a "COMEDY".

But if it's a story where a GUY ditches a girl so that he can trade up to get a another girl, they call it a "DRAMA".

Shiit happens to a guy, no big deal. Let's all have a big laugh about it.

But if shiit happens to a girl, better grab your Kleenex 'cause you can bet it's gonna be a 3-Hanky sob story...lol

March on.

It is not about changing women. That is for sure. I just think that guys need to be aware that women use stuff like this movie as their guiding principles. It is never right to cheat. The woman in the movie knew what she was going there for. She should have told her fiance, first but that comes back to women, like monkeys, dont let one branch go till they have grasp of the next.
Alot of women seem to have this I didnt mean to cheat but I slipped and fell on a penis mentality. Be aware, women know exactly what is going on the whole time.

How about "The English Patient???" Don't get me started on the wh0re who stars in that piece of cr@p. That was one of the few chick flicks I ever allowed my ex to make me sit through, and we got in a big fight about it. Something about a guy who's in the air force, who goes away to fight the frigging Nazis, and his wife gargles the first swinging d1ck that walks down the pike. Nice, huh?

Well she thought it was "romatic" too. I should have known right then and there that deep inside, despite extensive disguises to the contrary, that she had no qualms about cheating if it was in the right context.

I guess "Notebook" is the same load of cr@p regurgitated 9 years later.

If you find either of those movies in a woman's DVD collection, I think that's ample reason to break up with her.

This is why you should never commit yourself entirely to any woman. Whether you're a DJ or not, you're putting yourself in prime position to be royally screwed over.

NEVER GET INVOLVED IN ANY RELATIONSHIP YOU CAN'T WALK AWAY FROM.

i for one am happy that most women can't control their emotions and justify idiotic behavior.

in fact im happy for all the idiots in life who adopt the victim mentality - acting like idiots and blaming everyone else for their problems.

it would be a LOT harder for me to make good money if women were level headed. I love going to work and being top dog just because i don't act like a child.

i dont really care that 90% of women are idiots who excuse anything they do and cut a guys nuts off for the same thing. I only need one high quality woman, the rest i could care less about.

oh and i don't really care that the media brainwashes all these women. in fact i should thank them, they are making it easier for me to do well in my career and retire with a sweet bank account on some sunny beach.

guys, stay positive. ya, the worlds a mess. yes most women are NOT high quality. thats ok, its always been that way give or take.

but i tell ya what, you can f*cking enjoy life to the hilt even without a woman! you only go around once, so have fun. when a woman shows herself low quality ditch her and have fun solo until the next one catches your eye.

and always remember, women are the way they are because there are men who put up with it. men are just as much to blame for the low quality of today's woman as much as women are.

while breaking up on the spot is a bit rash...if you find that your gf or whatever is a fan of these movies, keep an eye on her integrity. while i think that a person deserves the benefit of the doubt, i think any woman who rationalizes the actions of these cheaters loses that privilige.

. If a wife takes her kids out and the husband cheats, it is rightfully seen as wrong and bad. However, if the husband takes her kids out and the wife cheats, it is called The Bridges of Madison County, a great best seller! If a woman seduces and makes an arch bishop breaks his vows, it is called The Thornbirds, another great best seller! What about a movie where the woman gets to act like a *****, spit on culture, cheat on her fiancee, abandon her family, to run off with a guy with no job? And to add insult to injury, when the girl dies where does she spend heaven with? She chooses not to be with her husband but rather with the one time lover! It is called Titanic, the best selling movie ever.

Learn to live with it. From "Gone With the Wind" to "The Way We Were" to "When Harry Met Sally" to "Pretty Woman" to "Sleepless in Seattle" to "Waiting to Exhale" to "The Notebook" women have always had some film of the year that resonates with women. It use to be Harlequin Romance novels. All it proves is that deep down women dream of romance. All we need to do is give them the feeling of romance without cutting off our nuts and handing them over to them in a pretty box with a bow.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Look everyone should dry their eyes, we aren't any morally superior and if you are then it's probably a sign of neediness "I won't cheat on anyone (because I don't want anyone to cheat on me)".

Can anyone say that if they had the opportunity to have Carmen Electra (or whatever fantasy girl), they wouldn't. As Charm says be her fantasy man and then you don't have a problem.

Heheh,..this is called Poisoning the Well. It's a common debate tactic/flaw when one party cannot counter the others valid point. Essentially the premise is that your logic is flawed by personal bias and the subject is goaded into defending himself rather than making his opponent focus on the validity of his argument. I should also add that women love to use this since they presume you'll be qualifying yourself for their intimacy by default, so you'll feel a need to defend your integrity.

BTW The Notebook was written by Nicholas Sparks who's made an absolute killng writting similar, syrupy romance garbage.

H3ll guys ... the movies don't influence the women ... the women influence the movies! They are hardwired to act on instinct and emotional response. And they don't look at things the same way guys do. Any woman will cheat or at least chase that feeling of romance given the right emotional triggers.

Sometimes we are at fault ... sometimes they are. They may try hard not to. They may regret or feel guilty about it. Or they may just enjoy it. But the bottom line is that even the ones who haven't yet would given the right situation. This board is filled with strategies for using womens emotional triggers against them, to get them in our beds, lives, keep them with us, whatever our individual goal is ... so should we be surprised that the above would be true too?

To a woman, having enough contact with someone other than their exclusive partner for an emotional relationship to evolve is perfectly OK! When it finally happens ... they justify it as being something that they just couldn't control. "I didn't want it! It just happened!" is the invariable proclamation. They simply aren't capable of understanding that had they looked at the contact in the same way they see it when we do it, as being wrong in the first place ... it couldn't have happened at all. I don't contend this justifies the behavior ... but it does put it in context.

We know this! And we use it against them! Whether it's to get the single girl or to pry the taken one from her current BF, we use any tactic we can to attain our goal. Truth is ... once a guy meets a woman he wants to make his ... he doesn't think about how her boyfriend will feel if he loses her ... he only worries about how to get her in his life! Hell if we are asked to justify stealing her ... our answer is usually "it just happened"! Sound familiar? So we have to shoulder some of the blame too!

So face facts! These movies wouldn't make money or even get made if they didn't evoke some response from the targeted audience ... women! It isn't about fantasy romance. It isn't about uncontrollable love! It's about real life! The ladies know how they are and how life really works. It's us guys that refuse to see truth more often than not. These movies are only reflections of the underlying truth of the society we (males and females) have created. They aren't delightful fantasies of the way things could be ... they are fictionalized portrayals of the way women really see life. Not an influence changing the way they behave!

For everyone condemning these movies as root cause, I say deal with it because at the most ... it may be reinforcement of the situation already extant in real life! For all of you lamenting the fact that the women who watch them probably think cheating is OK, learn to live in the real world ... most women think cheating is justifiable in some circumstance! It isn't the themes in these movies causing it ... it is the societal standards we have permitted to evolve!

Wow, what a dripping puzzy!!!

His books all seem to rotate around the same formula - girl cheats on upstanding man busy fulfilling his manly obligations to society & country in life...and runs off with some slacker scrub.
But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else.

Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love—and face the hardest decision of his life..
And then she must cheat on her 2nd choice to get back with her 1st choice.

In short, cheating is justified by your feeelliinggss. At least if you're a woman. If you're a man, it just means you're scum no matter what.

Wow, this guy's a real sell-out traitor to Men! Off with his ballz! Doh, too late!

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

The truth is, human beings have always been ****ed up. Just look at the past to see countless examples of ****ed-upness... the fact is most guys today are raised under an old fashioned judeo-christian ethic of relationships and what relationships would be, ancient societies did not have such "hard" boundaries of what is and isn't permissible, what is and isn't looked down upon, etc.

I assume both sexes will always want to consume sex or intimacy if given the opportunity, PERIOD. It's my own little theory of 'eternal consumption', everyone is eternally hungry for sex and intimacy until something changes or breaks due to old age, or supression of the hunger by choice.

**** look at the bible with kings and their many wives and breeders for god sake... the truth is that we should find good people of both sexes that fulfill us and add value to our lives, and disregard and ignore everyone else until they prove they are worth our time and energy.

Men say stuff like word is bond and stick to it, women more often then not do no such thing.

Personally, I think the race of human beings is still immature because every new child has to learn everything from scratch and has to go through all the stages of maturity that older people have long since been through so you always have new blood and new mediocrity to fill the ranks of both men and women and you see the same patterns of behaviour, the same questions, the same bull**** over and over again.

Soon enough humanity willl grow up culturally, but not until technology extends peoples lives sufficiently enough that everyone can get beyond the l childish stage of their immature development, much of which is due to lack of time and their shortness of life.

This thread is comical, because I have yet to meet a female that doesn't like the movie The Notebook. So good luck finding one that doesn't.

Here I am:wave:

I didn't like "The Notebook". I thought it was drivel written to produce as much strong emotional response as much as possible. A tired old "tear-jerker". This plot line was trite by the time "Wuthering Heights" was published. I saw it once and that was enough.
