You have to care about the outcome.
I know this goes against everything we are all supposed to believe here, but if you don't care about the outcome, then you won't be driven to achieve that outcome.
Getting rich, working out, getting laid, or anything else, has to mean something to you or else you won't do it unless someone's got a gun to your head.
You just need to stop caring so much that it feels like a matter of life or death, because this will scare you away, which is bad.
If you have a choice, you'll choose "no", and if you don't have a choice, you won't be able to perform well.
Perhaps the "game" metaphor really does apply.
Think about it, most of you have played sports or games against friends before; there wasn't anything at stake, but you still wanted to win, and were therefore going to do whatever it took to win. The outcome didn't matter, but it still meant enough to you for you to work for it.
