Total cholesterol is not the main number looked for on a lipid panel. It's LDL cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol and triglycerides are markers, not makers. If you have a fvcked up HDL / Triglyceride ratio you have insulin resistance / T2D and are at increased risk. If you have high LDL and a perfect HDL / Triglyceride ratio, you will still get atheroscolersis. LDL usually correlates with Apo-B, but not always. Apo-B is on all atherosclerotic particles. ApoB is causal in atherosclerosis.

Blood test can measure your HDL and Triglycerides. We can't measure LDL we can only estimate. This is one reason APO-B is important coupled with, as you state above, it's affinity to atherosclerotic particles. However, you're going to have to provide receipts for your statement above that high LDL and perfect HDL/ Triglyceride ratio will produce atherosclerosis. If your LDL has been high for 30 years and you lower it to a healthy level, it does not undo what happened the past 30 years. I am not pro-sugar. Replacing sugar with saturated fat may be an improvement for most people. It does not make saturated fat a good choice. It simply means it is better than sugar. We are better off replacing saturated fat for unsaturated fat and complex carbohydrates that have their natural fiber content in-tact.

Like so much in science, when you build up a huge building on a bad foundation, all subsequent findings then have to be taken with a grain of salt once the foundation is found to be rotten.

Further cholesterol research has basically proven it's them barking up the wrong tree but so much of their other stuff is based off this it would tumble their entire belief system to change it, so it's better to cling to this wrong notion and turn a blind eye to any new evidence that disputes this.

Similar to the nonsense study on saturated fats being the devil that nobody questioned for 60 years...until one day someone did and then every follow up study found the original one was so badly done it would have been laughed at if the author attempted to publish it today and pretty much came away with that study was a sham...yet some still quoted that as the bible.

If your LDL consistently stays below 70 mg / Dl, you are not going to get heart disease. Considering heart disease is the number 1 killer in the developed world, eliminating it means you are more or less likely to die of some other cause? You can have 99 other problems but heart disease won’t be one!

The Mediterranean diet is one of the best diets for heart health. Ketogenic diet is not. You seem to have an axe to grind with sugar, which isn’t relevant to this thread as no one here endorses eating excess sugar. The Mediterranean diet certainly doesn’t promote sugar consumption.

There’s a lot wrong with that “study.” Comparing FH patients with an LDL of 360 vs 468 and finding no difference? No shvt. That’s comparing someone who smokes 6 packs of cigarettes a day with someone who smokes 8 packs a day.

As I've laid out and provided receipts above, if your LDL is 40 you are correct, you won't get heart disease. That's because the cancer or some other all cause morbidity will likely kill you first.

LDL cholesterol is a surrogate marker for Apolipoprotein-B (Apo-B). LDL and Apo-B mostly correlate, but not always. Apo-B is a protein or “tag” on all non-HDL particles (these are atherosclerotic) in the blood. LDL on a blood test only measures the amount of cholesterol carried, not the amount of particles. Apo-B is the causal variable in atherosclerosis.

Similar to the nonsense study on saturated fats being the devil that nobody questioned for 60 years...until one day someone did and then every follow up study found the original one was so badly done it would have been laughed at if the author attempted to publish it today and pretty much came away with that study was a sham...yet some still quoted that as the bible.
Try adding butter and coconut oil to everything and let us know what happens to your lipid panel. And it’s no big deal when your cholesterol shoots up like a rocket, right?

Nobody is saying "add it to everything". It's all about balance. It's fine in balance. Saturated fat nuts act like eating a hamburger is going to set you up for a heart attack when you go to sleep that night.

Water is one of the most needed things for your body, but even too much of that can kill you by diluting your electrolyte balance needed to make your heart pump properly.

At the end of the day, most people would be far better off to take more steps than to eliminate saturated fats, IMO.

At the end of the day, most people would be far better off to take more steps than to eliminate saturated fats, IMO.
Saturated fat and serum cholesterol have an S curve relationship. Beyond a certain point (10-12% of calories) it significantly raises cholesterol, then it plateaus somewhere at an even higher threshold. The occasional cheeseburger or steak is not an issue. Dumping whole grains for ribeyes every day (like the quack doctors suggest) is a horrible idea.

Make sure you tell the Doctor you're just asking for a friend, otherwise he may want to test use for an intellectual disability.
