Actually, to confess my own bias, I've been a vegetarian for the past eight years. I don't like peta, and I don't harass anyone about what they eat, but I wouldn't kill an animal to eat it if I had other food, so I won't pay somebody to do something for me that I would not do myself. Although, if society ever falls apart and I run out of food, I would happily be out in the woods killing and eating anything that moved.
Your tolerance is refreshing.

If society fell apart, you'd most likely be attempting to start up a little farm plot, am I right? I sure as hell would be scattering some seeds: save me some foraging/scavenging.

As for the rural Arkansas folks dying and prions, I've been told raccoon is tasty eats if prepared correctly. However, I avoid eating omnivores because, well, they eat garbage. I know some, however, that eat opossum and raccoon frequently.
:nervous:
I seriously doubt a grass-eater would pick up nasty cooties as readily.

I can have a lot of respect for farm laborers having done farm labor. If everyone had to harvest their own food, whether it be animal or vegetable, we would at least not be so fat as a society. The human body did not evolve with a fast-food drive-thru in mind, where almost no energy is expended to gain giant amounts of energy.

The less technology involved in hunting, the more interesting it seems to me. The primitive methods read like a list of dirty tricks. PA recently OK'd an atlatl season: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/01/0124_060124_atlatl_deer.html

That makes a 12-guage look too easy.

Artificial *feel good* society = socialism. Does not work, as tested previously.

And this food issue is one of the few reasons that make me like my country. I eat fresh and cheap food everyday! And most people do it too, as it would be insane to live on fast food.

1) people here feel bad when they do
2) it's too expensive
Well, I think I've been a little to rage against the machine militant in my lasts posts so I'll try to tone it down a bit while I answer this.

If you've ever been to a low-income area, like Roxbury or Dorchester,MA you'll know it's not that uncommon for people to eat fast food everyday. These people aren't stupid, they'e just not gettting the right information. I'm not trying to make a socialist society where everyone eats what they're supposed to...it's just the food facts we receive from food companies are not at all supported by expert opinion but they can get away with it. Our choices and desicions are clouded because we don't have the right facts. The ideal diet is a high-fiber, low meat, high fruit and vege intake. Yet lots of people get the impression low-carb, high protein is the way to go.

1) People do not feel bad when they eat fast food. I'll use my own experience and the movie SuperSizeMe to demonstrate. Once he was on the fast food diet he got a drug-like high whenever the he ate the fast food, later on he felt like crap. But he needed to keep eating the food to maintain that "high". It's like a drug addiction.

2) Eating healthy is not cheaper, and it's more difficult to maintain. Have you been to wendy's recently. A Deluxe meal with soda, fries, and a double cheeseburger is $2.99. The dollar menus are filled with 1 dollar cheeseburgers, frieds, sodas etc.

Eh, I've always been fine with these groups that are against obesity, but it becomes a problem when they try to control eveyone's food, which they are doing now. It seems almost everywhere, they are cutting down on sugar, fat, using substitutes, etc.

Did I ask for you guys to do that? I'm smart enough to know what I put in my body, I need to burn off with excerise and other methods, or I'll gain weight. It isn't the food so much that is making people fat as it is the people who eat it.

Lets take McDonalds for example. It ridiculous that I need to literally spend about 12-15 dollars to totally fill myself up.

I dare you to sit down and try to eat $2.99 worth of rice in one sitting. Dare you! Too many carbs? Sit down and eat $2.99 worth of eggs in one sitting. Don't like eggs? Sit down and eat $2.99 worth of potatoes or carrots.

I'm sorry Mr. Fonzerelli, eating healthy is, IS, cheaper.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

You're not going to eat $2.99 worth of carrots in one sitting or $2.99 worth of eggs. Most people on their lunch break go to wendy's for $2.99 worth of a bulk of energy because it's QUICK hot meal. It fills them up and it tastes good. Most people don't want to go through the effort of storing vegetables, preparing homemade meals, when they have to work or take care of kids because it's laborous and time consuming. In the long run it's cheaper to go through the effort of preparing all your food packaging it and storing it in hopes it doesn't go bad, but a quick stop at a fast food joint will always take precidence in the minds of many people who haven't developed this type of self-discipline. Also, the quality of urban food store vegetables in many of the Wal-Mart's in the midwest is so poor that many people go for the stored prepackaged crappy versions of frozen veges or fruits that are loaded with salt and sugar. However, most are just detered completely from buying fruits and veges because of this. I went into a Walmart in Amherst, NH once and looked at the fruits I wouldn't consider feeding that to my dog. The apples were bruised, the oranges and bananas were brown and the veges had a dark disturbing texture to them. Wal-Mart is in some places the only outlet for buying foods. When you can't get it there you're only other option is to grow it in your backyard. They don't see the importance of maintaining them because no one buys them and no one buys them because they are told through advertising, buy the salty wheat thins, buy the soda. Among other things, I'm trying to advocate regulation of adverstising on this thread. It is not intrusion on the first amendment because the first amendment was written for PEOPLE. Corporations aren't people. They don't have feeling, emotions, happiness, sadness etc. They have one frame of existance. Make more money, that's it.

I agree. Another difficulty in the rural Midwest is that there is hardly any ethnic food available from restaurants. In Tampa, I could get food that was Greek, Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, middle eastern, Cuban, etc, none of which I can get in the middle of nowhere. Although no one culture has a monopoly on healthy food, the basic, simple, poor-man's food of any lesser developed country tends to be vastly healthier than our cheap fast-food. In China, heart disease and arterial sclerosis tend to be confined to only the rich people. They can afford the heavy, calorie-laden food that is typical of your local Chinese buffet. The poor people in China live off rice, vegetables, and whatever small amounts of low-quality protein they can get, yet they have healthier hearts than their wealthier counterparts.

My bad, I overlooked that aspect. You are absolutely right. Throwing some food in a container and hauling it to work with you is FAR too much effort when you could just hop in the car and drive during lunch hour traffic (which you get to complain about), stand in lunch-rush lines at Wendy's (which you get to complain about), and drive back through lunch hour traffic to work. Besides, throwing that container in the dish washer would cut into precious sitting-in-front-of-the-TV time. I don't know what I was thinking about when I argued that it was cheaper. Sorry.

Fonz. Firstly use some paragraphs dude. Just press the "Enter" key. Its less than an inch away from your finger.

And secondly its much cheaper to cook your own food. Compared to something like Wendys... it would cost you less than half the price to make it yourself.

Not only that but its healthier too, or unhealthy. Whichever. When you cook it yourself, you decide what it tastes and looks like, and you know exactly what you put in it.

Also like Vulpine said, sometimes it can actually be quicker than waiting in line to be served. This is especially true during the rush at Lunch hour.

And cooking your own food isn't too difficult. It takes you some time to learn it at first, but as you get used to it you can become very efficient. I cook a day's worth of meals in roughly 40min or so. Total time if you were to add it up.

So what's your excuse?

Time? Nope. Quick to make.
Money? Nope. Its cheaper.
Bad Food? Maybe, if you lack skill, but that improves.

I'll tell you what it is.... you're lazy.

Corporations aren't people. They don't have feeling, emotions, happiness, sadness etc. They have one frame of existance. Make more money, that's it.

I'm talking about this from societal view. I actually pack my own lunch everyday so I won't have to go to wendys if you really want to know. But statistically 1/4 of the country on any given day eats fast food. So, Call_Me_Daddy and Vulpine are smart guys that pack their lunch on a daily basis because they know better. Good for you, you guys did your very own one man study.

I don't care what you say, fast food is cheap and it's convenient because it's in your face everywhere you go. If you look at ANY graph showing the rise of eating outside the home percentages in the past 30 years you'll see a really steep rise of people choosing fast food over home-prepared meals. These are all people who have forgone prepacking their meals which you claim is so easy. Oh......well people are just getting lazier, that must be it! I kindly disagree, if anything people are busier than ever before.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

I think you misunderstood, CMD. Fonzie is arguing "that people are lazy". He doesn't really implicate himself in the laziness.

I agree. People are fuxxing lazy. However, not really "lazy", so much as "completely retarded".

5 minutes of multi-tasked work at home to slop some grub in a bucket? OR, a full lunch hour of stress, waiting, burning gas, "tasty" food that isn't good for you, stress, more waiting, more burning gas?

What fonz has argued is that "time is money". That's true, however, the time is LESS to make healthier food (very often). People don't factor in "travel time" or the "wait time" as "make time", which is wrong. Let's say you wanted to eat - so you get dressed, grab your keys, travel to where your car is, hop in, drive to where you are going to eat/get food, then drive back home. Now, the consume time is the same, but you have to count travel time as "prepare and cleanup" time. Assuming that you went to a fast food joint as a separate trip, you even have to count the time to get dressed (if you had to put on a coat and shoes, etc.).

Now, factor in cost of gas, wear on the vehicle, stress, etc. and you'll unlock all sorts of VALUE in throwing a sandwhich in a sack in the morning or night before.

It blows my mind how retarded people are about eating and food these days... fast food, indeed, is like crack. Here's the scene:
Two chicks picked me up to run a few errands. On the list of errands, I had to stop at the bank, then go to the grocery store, then we were supposed to go to see 300. Before we even got to the bank, one chick starts whining about "I'm hungry!" We get to the bank, and afterwards this chick starts freaking out that she's starving...
Chick: "drop me off at my car, I have to go get something to eat."
V: "Dude, chill, we are going to the grocery store right now!"
Chick: "I can't wait. I have to get something to eat!"
V: "Yeah... and we are going to a grocery store. Is there not enough food in a grocery store for you?"
Chick: "I'm just going to get something."
V: "Right. I understand you don't have anything to eat and need to get something to eat. I'm going to the grocery store because I don't have anything to eat either, and I need to get something to eat. Why don't you come along with us to get something to eat?"
Chick: "I don't want to go to the grocery store. I just want to pick something up."
V: "Wow. I'm done talking to you."
Chick: "WHAT!!? WHAT DID I DO?!?!"
V: "....."
Chick: "Why are you mad?"
V: "....."
Chick: "Just because I can't wait to go to the grocery store you are angry?"
V: "You're taking us 45 minutes out of the way to go to your car, so you can 'get food', whereas we would have been at the grocery store in 5 minutes ago. You are so ridiculous, and rude, that you are completely fuxxing our plans. FOOD LIVES AT THE GODDAMN GROCERY STORE! HELLO!!!? DO YOU HAVE A BRAIN!?!?"
Chick: "I don't want to have to pick up stuff, go home, then make stuff... I'm too hungry."
V: *takes a deep breath* "Let me ask you, where are you planning to get something to eat?"
Chick: "I donno, I was thinking Subway."
V: "Yep. You're brain dead."
Chick: "WHAT?!"
V: "There is what is known as a 'deli department' at the grocery store. This 'deli department' makes sandwiches, sometimes they even make some ahead of time and wrap them up - they just leave them lying around in the fridge so you don't even have to wait for them to make it. Want a combo meal? There are chips and soda at the grocery store, too. It's now ten minutes later, you would have food in your stomach by now. You're retarded, and, I need to shut up now before I freak out."
Chick: (rantrantrave...)
V: *looking out car window, silent, restraining himself from slapping the snot out of the chick*
Chick 2: "He's right, please drop it, Chick. We're taking you back to your car."

I didn't get to see 300 this Friday because a chick was hungry.  :cuss: It's going to be a long time before I hang with either of those retards.

Anyway, my point is, people aren't so much lazy as they are unaware that they direct far more time and effort trying to be lazy as they would "going straight to handling business". So, people are busier and have less time because they expend so much time and effort trying to save time...? It's confusing. I don't know how or why people do it, but, they do.

Take for example two car washes... one is a full service car wash 20 miles away, one is self-serve next door. People often will go to the full service one, which costs more, and would take more time, just because they didn't want to - or didn't know how to - do it themselves.

Wel of course fast food is cheap when compared to something like a restaurant. But compaed to something home-made... I've done the calculations. Home-made is alot cheaper. There is no disputing this.

People are lazier than ever before. Look at all the obese fvcks walking around that waddle. Tell me that's a hard working American right there.

Compare that person to someone in the 1950s and 1960s. In fact, why don't you talk to someone from that era? I bet they'd try to knock your ass out.

Don't be disrespectful to your hard-working elders like that. They deserve a hell of alot more credit.

Hey Vulpine, judging by the convo you had with that chick, you sound like one of those crazy health fanatics. Do you bring a measuring cup when you leave the house? I mean, good health is important, but you don't need to start a crusade and kill anyone who doesn't eat 55.15435235234g protein each day.

Lighten up dude.

Maybe you need to read it again. It was about how the chick wanted to go to a fastfood to get a sandwich when sho could have gone to the deli at the grocery. Where they make sandwiches. She drives 20min to a fastfood joint for this, with Vulpine dragged along because she's an idiot.

Where the hell did you get health fanatic and protein from?

Agreed.

In my opinion the result of obesity is just because of:
-stuffing too much in their mouths (because of boredom and bad habits)
-eating the wrong stuff (due to expediant behavior, lazyness)
-not working out (lack of self respect)
-poor self-image and mental health

I've never been obese my entire life, so when I say that most people go:
Boo-hoo-hoo, you don't now what it's like
And I say: EXACTLY, I don't know what it's like. That's the whole point
You never had weight problems, it's easy talking for you. You have good genes/It's in your genes/I have a slow digestion/blablablabla
I get sick of hearing it. It's not that it's my concern or anything, but I find it pretty pathetic how so many people blame their condition on all things outside of them and never themselves.

Oh my god, you guys are giving me a headache.

You're right, I'm not putting myself into this cateogory of laziness. You're making this all about personal experiences when it comes to trying to solve the problem with marketing **** food to the country and saying people are being too lazy to make their own food. YOU are the ones who don't have faith in people and belittle them for engaging in bevahiors that are completely natural to the enviroment we live in right now. I guess we should just keep preaching personal responsiblity, right? Have some self-discipline and don't listen to the ads, right? Well guess what, you're whole self-discipline routine alabai is NOT working. We've been trying it for how many years while completely ignoring the other end of the spectrum? I live my life on the notion that people should take personal responsibility for what happens to them and what goes in their life. But we're talking about solving a nationwide problem here, that's why this thread was orignially created. If you can't debate that, then stop talking. Obesity is getting worse and worse every year. If you want proof then I'll show you the graphs of obesity trends in the U.S. Preaching this whole buddhist mantra of personal responsibility is about as useful as trying to convert someone to a different religion. It's hard enough trying to make people learn new behaviors when they WANT to, let alone when they don't. And really, it's not their fault that they can't and won't change because our society has constructed a system of think and learn from 5pm news and advertisements.

So in closing (because I don't feel like internet fighting anymore)
1. If you care about this issue, do the research on where you're food comes from. Go to the websites of brand names you eat everyday and look at the content.

2. If you don't like some of the advertising issues go to you're local town hall, give them the facts on the issues and voice your concern. Go to local School meetings and tell them you want a junk food advertising ban placed in schools. Tell them you oppose certain corporate activities in YOUR town. This how it all starts, a grassroot campaign that starts at local levels, gains popularity at state levels. Then gains credibility as a national ruling. This is how we've managed to fight off tobacco.

P.S - I saw 300 last night, it was awesome!

This really struck a cord in me. The food companies in this country are getting away not only with animal cruelty and running an organization with pathetic regulation policies.

www.meatrix.com

Watch all 3 of the cartoons. It's not just about animal cruelity, do you realize that food companies are entitled to put as much fat/sugar/salt in their products as they want. There is no regualtion to the content of food or for that matter advertising. People talk about free choice and independent desicion making when it comes to eating food. This is largely pushed on as a defense tactic from food companies to continue the bull**** concept of a self-regulating corporate world. From 1975 to 2005.... 100 million people suddenly became obese in this country. IF FOOD IN THIS COUNTRY IF ABOUT PERSONAL CHOICE HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE FACT THAT 100 MILLION PEOPLE BECAME OBESE IN 30 YEARS!! How do 100 million people exhibit such a drastic change at the same time. People are not to blame for this, the government is not working for us on this issue. Stop being brainwashed, foundations like the Center for Consumer Freedom are a non-profit organizational group STARTED BY THE AMERICAN BEVERAGE ASSOCIATION (Coke, pepsi etc.) in an effort to self-regulate. The Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) is another food company "non-profit" creation that seeks to limit harmful junk food adverstising to children. But look at all the ceral, candy, and soda commercials aimed at kids on tv/internet today. The CARU has given the green light to ALL OF IT!!! When foreigners come to this country they can't tell the difference between any of our cities because they all have the same ****ing strips. McDonalds, Taco Bell, Wendys etc. The only way you'd recognize you're in a different city is by the weather.

Food Companies are just as dangerous as Tobacco Companies, it's history repeating itself. We need more government regulation and less self-regulation in our food production. The more Don Juan I become, the more political I become. Support your local mom and pop farms. They're around you.
This is all ok but at the end of the day, its down to the indivivdual, its a shame media over in america and the government are not that free in givnig out the real facts to the masses, but why should they?

you live in consumer culture, what better way to keep a good consumer unit then encourage them to conusme food that would make you fat, sit infront of your tv and watch all the advertising telling you to buy useless shi* for the sake of buying useless shi*, to eat what they tell you to consume what they tell you, you must consume and label it as fashion or its the norm, sheep follow sheep.

But at the end of the day there is still choice, now if 100million sheep want to get fat, live an unhealthy lifestyle, consume mc'd's consume consume and consume like a big fat blob of bacteria on an apple eating till it explodes, then i have no sympathy, i dont blame the government or the food companies for making the fat poeple of this world, the fat people got fat through there own methods, even if it was 'encouraged' through mind control techniques (and yes it is a form of mind control, advertisments and media control), still regardless it was there choice.

Now what better way to keep the economy going by encouraging the fat sheep to consume food and products that are fundmimentally cheep to produce and sell high or encourage them to but stuff to compete with what the other fat shi* as bought.

And how do they do this, they do it by deception, it is clear the organizations are cleverer then you are and they have researched and have methods to keep those people doing exactly what they have always been doing and thats to consume, so dont fight it just go buy it :D
