This is why Dr. Burroughs recommends you drink spring or purified water. As for airborne pollutants, NASA did a 2 year study on plants and their ability to replace toxic air with rich oxygen._Here is a link, showing the chemicals they used and which plants filtered them out the best.

http://www.aerias.org/kview.asp?DocId=126&spaceid=1&subid=8

One of the prettier plants for the job, which filtered out all chemicals used was the Peace Lily. I have 2 in my home and they always get compliments.

Also, you want to keep most plants out of your bedroom because they reverse their process at night, and will actually hog your oxygen. If you want to keep air pure in your bedroom, get an "Ionic Breeze" from Sharper image. These things last a lifetime and do a great job not only filtering the air, but adding positively charged ions to your ambience. (same effect as after a thunderstorm) If this contraption is too pricey for you, then you might want to invest in Xerophytic plants, which take in carbon dioxide at night. These include Orchids, Bromeliads, Jade plants, Cacti, or any other succulent plant, including Aloe Vera. If you want them to give off oxygen at night, have a small light shining on them as oxygen is a byproduct of photosynthesis.

I've heard that it's expensive too, enough to make it difficult to eat nothing but organic food on the average income.
It is more expensive for sure. As for whether or not it is healthier than conventional fruit, usually your tongue is the best judge. By a conventional apple and then get an organic one. Try them both and see if you can taste the difference. I know I sure can. Organic fruits and veggies have much more flavor and you can feel the energy boost your body gets from them.

But dont get it twisted either. I still eat conventional stuff now and than, because sometimes I don't have access to organics. It's good to be flexible, but when I am at home, all I get is organic since we have a massive farmer's market 3 blocks from my house. It is not much more expensive than supermarket stuff, either...but Spain is different.

I suppose that after the fast, you could keep drinking these things every day, in addition to a healthy, organically grown diet; could that get/keep everything out that gets in other ways than food?
Unless you move to the wilderness, you wont be able to keep toxins out of your system. This is why I do the fast once a year. As for the lemonade, I drink it when I feel a cold or flu coming on...usually knocks it right out. But if you are interested in the cleansing action, there is no getting around the procedure...your stomach and intestines have to be free of solid food in order for you to flush out the stuff you have been collecting over the years.

Sure I did. Technically I am not cured...I am sure if I did not fast for a few years and ate crappy food, the allergies would just come right back. But so far, I have not had any reactions to pollen, foods or anything else that used to make me miserable.

Eating unprocessed foods and the occasional enema will do the trick.
As Dr. Burroughs states in his book, enemas can only go so far. You may clean out a great portion of the large intestine, but the water just wont reach all the way and you can forget about cleaning out your small intestine and stomach out like this. The salt-water flush is far superior as it not only cleanses the colon, but flushes out any parasites or toxins you may have in your small intestine. I have seen this cleanse cure chronic ulcers as well. Enemas can't make the same claims and not to mention, they are terribly uncomfortable! Also, you are mistaken in your idea that the MasterCleanse is an extreme measure. It is the easiest diet I ever did...if you want to talk extreme, try a water fast. I didnt last 2 days on that one!

I'm starting my master cleanse and I got all my ingredients. I already took my laxative tea and I'm wondering when does it work? or does it even work at all? Anyway, can u help me out on this please? Thank you
Good questions.

The tea is taken before you go to bed and takes anywhere from 6-8 hours to take effect.

You should wake up with a STRONG urge to go to the bathroom. It will literally wake you up.

If this does not happen, then dont sweat it...you just need to increase your dosage. Let the tea steep longer before you drink it. Try up to 10 minutes steeping time and make sure you put a lid (or small plate) on top of your cup so all the good stuff stays in.

If you steep for 10 minutes and still feel nothing, try using two tea bags.

Make sure you are using the right tea as well. (Senna leaf) I recommend the "Traditional Medicinals" brand of senna which is sold as "Smooth Move". There are lots of good brands out there, just make sure yours is certified organic.

After going to the bathroom, feel free to rest some more. When you wake up again to start your day, chug down the salt-water mixture. That should take anywhere from 40-70 minutes to work its way through your system. You may have up to 3 bowel movements but you will find that with practice (and drinking that water as fast as you can) you can get most of it out in one sitting.

I wont be on the forums for much longer, so if you have any other questions, hit my email, or you can visit this excellent forum for Master Cleansers which I just stumbled across... http://www.therawfoodsite.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=mastercleanse

Yep, it sure does sound like one of us is brainwashed. Hate to break it to you but food IS good for you, its not some conspiracy theory to drive consumerism.

Think of your body as a Car, because thats effectively what we are - organic machines. We take in our energy source and deposit the waste, Its totally up to you wether you put premium, unleaded or diesal in. Is a BMW going to run on Diesal.. no.. but that doesnt mean you should just leave the tank empty.

I had a read through that e-book and it made several references to spirituality being a cause of illness, and alot of other hippy jargon.

'At last the basic cause of disease is no longer a mystery..negative mental attitudes, and lack of spiritual attunement which combine to produce toxic conditions and malfunction of our bodies.'

Its a bunch of hippy bullsh1t, fasting 10+ days on that diet does more harm than good.

Here's an exert you should read
http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2221.html -

'So, how does fasting influence the body's detoxification processes? Our nutritional status affects the body's ability to manufacture antibodies and enzymes, and the liver's ability to detoxify. Fasting deprives the body of the raw materials — sufficient calories, proteins, and certain vitamins and minerals — needed to make antibodies and enzymes. Eating keeps our immune system strong.'

If your STILL thinking fasting is a good idea, heres something else you might want. http://www.alexchiu.com/

Big problem with your argument. A car was designed to ingest toxic materials. Humans are not. As for your take on the "hippy jargon", you are entitlied to your opinion, but I believe that physical health is indeed affected by emotional and mental state. A lot of times we hold onto toxic thoughts and feelings and the power of our minds will manifest these as illnesses. I have seen many people worry themselves all the way to the hospital, so perhaps this concept doesn't seem so much like new-age BS to me.

Speaking as someone who has done this and healed my own chronic illness, I think I come from a place where I can say that this diet is not only safe, but extremely beneficial. I wouldn't post something I had not personally tried myself. So far your commentary is based on your own limited beliefs and a few Google searches.

But for the noble sake of debate, let's take a look at what your "source" has to say
To help understand why, a lot can be learned from taking a moment to investigate the body's own detoxification process. The human body is quite ingenious. It was designed to have two major pathways to eliminate harmful substances.
This is her first mistake. The body was designed to handle harmful substances found in nature. Evolution is not like software that you can upgrade in minutes, days or even years. It takes many generations for our DNA to program our adaption to environmental factors. In the last 100 years, evolution simply has not had the time to catch up with all these strange, synthetically toxic substances that have become part of our daily lives. The end result is disease, allergies, cancers and a myriad of other problems our bodies were not "designed" to have.
Harmful substances that slip by the intestinal detoxification system are delivered to the liver. This second pathway has two detoxification phases: (1) various transformations occur preventing the perilous substances from creating harm to our bodies; (2) another series of reactions occur, causing these substances to become less toxic. They are then excreted from the body in urine and feces.
She fails to address the fact that our livers eventually become overloaded and our system of defense breaks down from all the crap we have ingested over time. While certain foods do help cleanse the liver, it is still to busy picking apart toxins and aiding in digestion to flush all the old ones out. Remember that we are putting a very un-natural stress load on all of our organs every time we eat processed foods like refined sugar, salt or flour, toxic pesticides, hormones and antibiotics in our meat supply, mercury levels in our seafood. etc, etc.
So, fasting does not boost the body's disposal system, or cleanse your body in a healthy way. Fasting denies you all the nutrients you need in a day to stay healthy!
She is right on this one. Fasting alone is not very helpful and can actually damage your system. This is why the CLEANSING aspect of this diet (particularly the salt-water flushes) is so crucial.

Conclusion: Her assessments in this very brief article is very generalized and have nothing to do with the Master Cleanse. The second link was interesting though. Thanks for that one. For those who haven't clicked it, http://www.alexchiu.com/ is selling jewelry that will make you immortal! Will we finally harness the power of magnet rings and become the new Super Race? :p

Any idea whether this is a good idea in combination with regular medicine? I'm taking Roaccutane, a drug designed to rid people of Acne (a very high success rate, supposedly caused depression in some people but mostly scaremongering). It works by drying out the skin, raises the levels of vitamin A to a much higher level in your blood, and so on. It's working very well, its uncomfortable my skin being so dry but its preferable to an oil slick. I'm interested in trying this "diet", just want to be sure I'm not causing myself harm.

Or would it be better to wait half a year until I complete the course? It's a very powerful drug, reduces the ability of the skin to produce oil and moisture while taking it.

the only 'diet' i have followed for the past three years and running! yes, i have fasted all day and then ate once
a day for the past 3 years! I went through a phase of
only eating red meat/chicken and salad for two years,
then i shifted to more carbs at meal time.

I reccomend for people that enjoy cleansing try the following products-

http://www.ghchealth.com/oxy-powder.php

http://www.ghchealth.com/parasite-cleanse-cleansing.php

this diet may sound extreme..because it is!
but i have never been more leaner and muscular in my life,
and i still have the power to do 15 sets of Deadlifts a week!

My skin cleared up, i sleep better, i have more energy and
not lazying around, my appettite is simply enormous now-
it actually feels good to be hungry to me.
Once you experiance the feeling of 'total health', not
just from eating tons of foods and working out-
you WILL notice a tremendous difference...

Señor Fingers ,are you a nutritionist?
just curious, i have been studying nutrition for the past
10 years and i don't know why i never once thought
about the benefits of cleansing/fasting til only a few years ago...

Dr. Burroughs specifically suggests that you stop all medication while on this cleanse. They will most likely interfere with the natural process. Besides, once you clean house, you may find you dont need those pills afterwards. If you are interested in natural sources of vitmains that are great for your skin, check this out..

Turn that frown upside down my friend! This diet not only cleanses all the rotting crap out of your colon, but also the parasites in your small intestine and any nasties you have in your stomach and throat. Nothing like an internal bath to make yourself so fresh and so clean clean.

I am most def not a nutritionist, although I have always been fascinated by chemistry and biology, so it makes sense that I have taken a shine to studying food & health. I stumbled onto this cleanse out of sheer frustration. Modern medicine failed me and I had to take matters into my own hands.

In regards to the warrior diet, it sounds a lot like mine, though a bit more extreme. I only eat when I am hungry and its usually in the early evening. I still couldnt live without my breakfast though and am surprised you feel strong without your morning oats. Props!

it's just seems kinda ironic that i spent a good five something
years living the 'bodybuilder' lifestyle and then i spend the next two years afterward having to rid my body of all the gunk
i ingested..i am taking about 1,000 calorie mass shakes,
tons of pills (everything from glutamine to creatine,andro-when
they were legal) huge meals , working out for 5 days a week
for two hours each. I was getting huge, but i felt like such
crap compared to how to i feel today.
I automaticly assumed that everything i was doing
was making me healthy because i was soo strong in the
gym and i was gaining soo quickly, but i never thought
or questioned what i was ingesting and how it was effecting
my body inside. Can you imagine what 5,000 calories-
liquid calories does to the intestines? no wonder the plumbing
was clogged!

Nice man!

A few pointers and observations for ya...

Try to settle into this gradually. Eat less and less as you approach your Day 1 so it is not such a huge shock. Don't have a heavy last meal either. I made that mistake the 1st time around and it made things very difficult. Also, I can't stress enough how important it is for you to stay warm. Hopefully you live someplace with mild winters. My favorite time to fast is July / August. The body naturally wants less food in these temperatures and the fast was MUCH easier for me.

When you start eating again, do it gradually as well and listen to your body. Drink the orange juice (fresh squeezed of course) and see how your body reacts. It will probably be the most delicious OJ you ever had! LOL. If all goes well, you can make the soup (no canned stuff) and start drinking only the liquid, saving the rest for the next day.

I will not lie to you...the first time I broke the fast, my body responded so well to the change that at the end of the night I ate as much soup as my stomach could handle. The following day I had more soup, juice and salad. For the next 3 months I was vegetarian..not out of obligation, but because my body did not crave meat at all. Then one night my mom made her famous pork chops and that it was all over. :p

Since then, I eat a bit of everything, but I notice considerably less meat and sugar consumption. Everyone is different though. My cousin fasted for 23 days and broke it with a slice of pumpkin pie and continues his binge eating habits. Although this is not recommended and potentially dangerous, nothing happened to him and he has done 3 more fasts since then.

Also, if you are interested in some extra cleansing power then get your hands on some psylium/bentonite which is available in powder and liquid form, respectively. The stuff is just excellent for moving the cleansing process along and some people call this the "Ultimate Cleanse" It also adds more bulk to your drink and fills you up considerably. Mix 1 Tablespoon of liquid bentonite and 1 teaspoon of powdered psyllium (or 1 Tablespoon if using whole husk psyllium) with 8-10oz of water or lemonade, shake and drink immediately. Follow this with another 8-10oz glass of water. Try it once a day and increase the dosage till you are doing 2-3 shakes a day. In addtition to the lemonade and shakes, drink plenty of water all day, everyday. I guarantee you will be shocked at the things that come out of you!

While a lot of folk have expressed interest in this diet, VERY few people have the balls to do this. My hats off to ya, and feel free to hit my email if you have any questions / concerns. Print this whole thread out cuz there is a lot of useful info you may have missed on first read. There is also an excellent forum where you can kick it with other master cleansers. Checkit..

There is a big difference between being healthy for one's own sake and trying to look good to mask one's insecurities. I posted this here because I see a lot of you focusing more on aesthetics and bodybuilding than actually makin yourself feel good and energetic. I was amazed at how many people I attracted coming off this diet. I felt like I was a light bulb that had been dimmed out over time and suddenly found a steady current. People were just drawn to me naturally, because I felt healthy, positive and on top of the world. I will take that feeling over a massive He-Man physique any day of the week.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

Hey Fingz,

I was really inspired by your post and decided to have a shot at this Master Cleanse. Currently on day 4, but I dont seem to be having the same detox symptoms as you did. I seem fine just a little fatigued. Had major cravings yesterday, everyone's eating around me. Any suggestions on what I could do to keep on track?

Just two more questions:

This MC would cause a metabolic shut down wont it? since you consume like 500 calories a day (depending on how much lemonade).

and what about protein?

A bit late, this reply... but I found the answer in the book:

HOW DO I GET MY PROTEIN?
Often the question is asked about the need for amino acids, and animal protein foods. The need is
highly exaggerated as only 16% of our body is protein. The answer to the question is very simple. We
first need to understand that pure protein is primarily nitrogen, with oxygen, hydrogen and some
carbon. We all know we get a large share of our oxygen and hydrogen needs from the air along with
some carbon. There is four times the amount of nitrogen in the same air as there is oxygen, hydrogen
and carbon combined. Since we are able to utilize and assimilate a large amount of our needs of these
elements into our bodies we are able to assimilate and build the nitrogen also into our bodies as protein.
This is done by natural bacteria action which is capable of converting it to our use.
From the combination of the best of foods and clean air we are able to create our own amino acids, just
as well as the animals do. We never try to feed amino acids to the animals. Thus we are able to
eliminate the need for toxic dead animal flesh and have no further need to worry about our constant
source of protein. Eat only the best variety of fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, seeds and sprouted seeds
for a further complete source of protein.
People who smoke cannot pick up the nitrogen from the air so easily, but will still get enough from
proper food without the use of animal flesh. For your well being, however, elimination of smoking is a
must.
Many people believe that eating meat gives them strength. If this is so, then why are the strongest
animals in the world vegetarians? Did you ever stop to think that the animals you do eat are
vegetarians? Where did they get their strength? All the meat-eating animals find it necessary to sleep
16 to 1 hours a daily because of excess toxins. The meat eating animals live a very short life. God has
supplied such a bountiful supply of fresh, wholesome food that there is never a need to kill an animal
for its more toxic flesh in our modern civilization.

I very much doubt so. Your body can synthesize some amino acids, but not all of them, and only with the correct resources. Your body does NOT obtain nitrogen, hydrogen etc. from the air in a way that it can be counted as nutrition. Other proteins, your body are not suited to make - thus, they are named essential amino acids.. And you're not getting all of these with this diet? These could come from fx. beans, rice, maize.

Well, it's been 4 days, almost 5.

I don't feel much different except lost my appetite.

Funny, my weight hasn't changed a hair. Didn't lose or gain 1lb.

I can't say I feel "spectacular" yet, but atleast it's got me focused about my diet again, so its brought back some self-discipline.

I think I'm going to stop at 4-5 days now, I'll start adding protein, fat, and some carbs.

The fast senor fingers underwent had philosophies and ideas from the east. The people in other countries arent malnourished and diseased like we are. This fast works very well but with ways to supplement with bioavailable minerals as jariel said. There are safer variations online.

Nothing is wrong with western food. What is wrong is general eating and health habits. A country of people munching on fast food who also don't do any form of exercise is what makes us unhealthy.

Not to mention a good percentage of America is made up of immigrants, yet they still have obesity and other health problems. These are immigrants who make and eat their own native food.

Also because it comes from the East doesn't suddenly make it better than the Western alternative.

http://www.worldhunger.org/asia.htm

Asia a.k.a. what you call the "East" has much much MUCH worse rates of disease of malnourishment than the "West".

I know this Master Cleanse does not work because
1) I tried it. It actually made me malnourished instead of giving me the supposed benefits.
2) Take this analogy. A goody 2 shoes, law abiding, never break the rules, citizen commits 1 crime in his life. Does it make him a criminal? Of course not.

Likewise a person who had a lifetime of crime cannot become good by performing 1 good deed.

And just as well if you have poor eating habits, poor hygiene, poor sleep, poor nutrition, no exercise, going on a Master Cleanse will not suddenly reverse all of your unhealthy habits and make you healthy.

I had looked at doing this before finding this thread. I considering doing this in December but I'm concerned about possibly losing muscle. I've been lifting weights for about a month and have started seeing results.

Bollocks. Allergies are immune system reactions. You can overcome allergies to an extent by being around the allergen more often and your immune system adapts.

Few weeks ago I was still horribly allergic to cats. If I pet the cat I get hives, if I touch my face, my eyes swelled up. It was ridiculous. So I spent more time around my friend's cat. It sucked, but I got used to it. I have avoided cats since I was a child for this reason, but I decided enough was enough. I'm not completely cured but I can tolerate a few hours in the same room as a cat instead of 5 min which I am very happy with.

Same with pets I had years ago when I was a kid. It got so bad that they gave me athsma, but I stuck through it and prest-o change-o the allergy went away many puffers later. Took awhile and it was a horrible experience but I got used to those allergens.

If you're deathly allergic, sometimes doctors will do subcutaneous injections of very very diluted allergens under your skin and slowly increase the dosage as your body tolerates more and more. This doesn't work for all allergies, for something like very severe peanut allergies it can be genetic and no matter how small the amount, your body won't be able to adapt and you go into shock and die.

Anyways, allergies are complex, and no it's not because of the liver. If you're decently active and you don't eat too much junk food, or drink chronically, your liver should be in fairly clean condition. It's a very tough organ.
