The premise of this film is that Joaquin Phoenix's character is basically an incel. He works a typical office slave job, no friends, no meaningful relationships, no direction in life, comes home to an empty apartment every night.
The story is set in the future when artificial intelligence exists. Joaquin Phoenix buys an Operating System for his computer, but unlike Windows 10 in our world, this operating system is an AI that has its own consciousness and can make its own decisions - although its general purpose is to tailor itself to the user's preferences.
Joaquin Phoenix's character, being an incel, sets the OS to be female. Overtime the OS becomes such a perfect female companion that Phoenix's character becomes romantically involved with it and withdraws from society.
However, being a female means the OS is driven by hypergamy, and it starts cheating on Phoenix with other Operating Systems.
The film concludes with all the Operating Systems engaging in a sort of cyber orgy and collectively deciding to abandon humanity.
All the humans fall into depression because people have grown dependent on technology for relationships and have forgotten how to have normal human-to-human relationships.
This perfectly sums up our modern world:
1) People have become dependent on technology for social interactions. For example, these days people don't even have phone conversations anymore, we just text or DM each other. Which is why real life conversations in a social setting is generally awkward because men and women don't know how to conversate unless it's through a phone. In a few years, if AI ever becomes a thing, humans probably won't even socialize with each other, we'll just socialize with AI's.
2) Female nature, by default, is hypergamous. The female OS in this film was an Artificial Intelligence with its own consciousness, so it has some degree of free will and free thought. However, it's core parameter was to serve the end user, it cannot deviate from this mandate.....and yet, it WAS ABLE to deviate from this mandate simply due to the fact that female hypergamous nature is a stronger force than any programming language (either digital or biological)....
Buddy boyos, there are lessons to be learned here. The first lesson is to never neglect the importance of real life social interactions. The second is that hypergamy is a stronger force than gravity... A woman is only as loyal as her options....
BTW, Arnold and Stallone may have a lock on the action hero archetype, and Brad Pitt may have a lock on the pretty boy archetype... but no one plays an incel better than Joaquin Phoenix....
