I gotcha.

I might recommend the straps on shrugs tho... just lets you focus more on your traps, and not that burning in your forearms ;)

My forearms are pretty well conditioned, although I never thought of it that way. By doing stuff without straps, I'm building more naturally - one muscle wont be a lot stronger than the other. Strong forearms are just plain practical anyway.

Hell, if you ask me, if you arent willing to accept the occasional forearm burning agony, you arent really training properly, are you :p

another good hammsring workout I use is similar to a squat. its like a forward squat, placing the barbell over the front of your just, and proforming a squat movement.

Another one I like are one legged squats , which hit quads. Also helps with balance.

I dont care much for front squats. This was supposed to be a list of the essential lifts, not a great big dictionary where you have all the big movements in there and you pick and choose. To be honest, I was trying to stop the new guys to weights asking the same old questions.

lol semag :D

I might tone down my training a bit. I might be able to pin this illness down to overtraining weakening my immune system. I've been blasting it harder than some of the guys I tag along to the gym for... mainly I work out at home, but all the guys I used to know at the gym before I stopped going get to sneak me in sometimes. They all say that I train just as hard as all the meatheads they see in there, and those are guys that always throw up/sometimes pass out on leg day... so ;\

Still... straps.. pft. Maybe when I get to some serious weights on deads. But until then ;)

I almost passed out on leg day last week. It was actually kind of embarassing.

Heh, me too sazuko. I know what my body is capable of, but I dont know what my body can tolerate over time. I might bust it down to a different split, or work in 10 day weeks. one day off, one day on. After I've finished working all my body parts, take 2 days off.

I'm gonna see how it goes.

benny, are you pushin over 260-270 for deads and shrugs? I figure you're pretty close, and that just kills my hands, that's why I use the straps :)

I've recently incorporated the straps into cable rows, but purely to isolate the back, so that I could concentrate on the form.

I'd say also, to truehockey, rather than one legged squats, one legged legpress... sets of 10 are monster.

My deads are truely messed up at times. Sometimes I get 250, sometimes I get close to 280. It appears to be really closely linked to how much sleep I get, heh

Yeah, it's pretty tough on the hands. I'll consider straps when it feels like my fingers are close to breaking ;)

Just to hijack the thread, the lightweight mens weightlifting took place last night. Truely amazing. 54KG division[I think] Clean and Jerking 150+KG. Insanity.

Sorry about that pal, I missed it

I dont lift with my arms in the slightest. Although it's a compound lift, it's for my legs and thats where it's gonna hit.

I rest my fingers on the bar lightly and use my legs enitrely. By lifting some of it with my upperbody I find there is a LOT more stress on my core muscles and instead of squats feeling plesantly uncomfortable, they're a nightmare.

Hope that helped.

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.
