Currently, I'm a High School Senior who's just been finishing up the whole, long tedious process of applying to many different Colleges....

Common Applications, Common Application Essays, Supplementals and all the Supplemental Essays....
I'm pretty sure a good sizaeable portion of you already know the long, arduous, deal

So yeah... I'm already done with every one of my colleges and am currently finishing up the supplemental for the final one (Villanova University) :D

Just out of curiosity who else is in this predicament of choosing which College to go to and what to study?
Can the older guys give us young-ins a couple of useful pointers? ;)

I'm gonna list all the Colleges I'm applying to in the next post below...

Can you guys list the places where you are surrently studying in?

I wanna make this thread very similar to the one in the Wingman Forum,
except where each Don Juan lists his College/University instead of his place of residence

I'm still looking
University of Illinois UC - Denied (Seriously? Wasn't even defered. I know people with worse scores and GPA than I that still got it. Whatever, their loss.)

Northern Illinois University - Accepted

Southern Illinois University - Accepted

University of Minnesota - Waiting

University of Oklahoma - Waiting

Iowa State University - Waiting

U of I was my #1 school. Since that backfired, I am hoping I get into U of M, OU, then ISU. I REALLY don't want to go to southern or northern. It is not that they are bad schools, but I want to go to a tier 1 school not tier 3/4. The out of state schools I applied to were also on the cheaper side but still with great programs.

Also, I found the college process to be extremely easy. My essays took half an hour to write. No LoR's unless the school asked for it. Common apps took like 45 minutes. In the end I don't see what the big deal is with people going nuts on applications. Obviosuly it is different for schools like Harvard, but I want to go to a large public school and their apps are a little more simplified. In the end it really doesn't matter what school I go to as long as I get a degree then hopefully a masters from there.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

College Confidential is just another resource where students can discuss some of their hardships and receive some valuable advice. But I don’t see why we shouldn’t discuss it here.
By the way, good for you – you’ve created a great list. You just might want to add some more low risk colleges to your admission process (a detailed table with 2013 stats you may find here https://studyboom.com/wiki/College_application_process). It’s just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

I graduated college but I have some tips.

If you are going to major in a science or math field, major in ENGINEERING. Yes it is harder, but you find a job much easier than a degree in the "pure" sciences.

Brand name of college isn't everything. My cousin goes to the CUNY Honors college, gets a free laptop, maintains a high GPA on the deans list and will probably go to her graduate school of choice. I've known really smart people who go to really hard schools, rack up loans, and graduate with a lower GPA, ironically lowering their chances for anything. Obviously though if you get into Brown go!

During your sophomore and junior year (or even freshman but it is hard) start lining up internships (or lab work if you are a science major) and applying to every program you can find. You want to be working before you graduate college, plus you can also make money.

Go visit the college before you accept. Find people to talk to that went to that school. If you are going to be in a school for the next 4 years, it has to be somewhat enjoyable and compatible with YOU.

Figure out your major ASAP. Your advisers will tell you all sorts of BULL like you have until your 2nd year to decide, and you should shop around. I disagree with that. Pick a major you like, you think you will do good in, and is practical for finding a job. Engineering majors and computer science are two big areas. Also you want to find our major ASAP so you can take all the necessary classes, and schedule your classes efficiently.

Lastly if you do not get into the college of your first few choices do not fret. Some of the smartest people I know didn't get into Ivy's yet went to a State or CUNY and ended up successful. My brother is also in a CUNY honors program with a 3.9 GPA and is finding a decent amount of work while in school.

Even though it's an old thread I'll add my $0.02.

Adding onto what ArcBound said...yes engineering is an awesome field to get into (I'm studying it right now) but it is not for the faint of heart. The material is hard, sh1tty professors make it even worse, and the workload can be insane.

Provided one has good/above average math/physics skills, and a good work ethic, one will do fine in engineering.

Right now my life revolves around lifting, work, and school. I only really post here on SS for my lifting log, and skim occasionally for a thread that stands out.

Check out Captain Capitalism for some good college advice. Doesn't sound like you're going to ruin your life with your intended major, but check him out. I wish I had access to that kind of advice, but I ended up doing something similar to what he says.
